Dream 465: Making decisions about life and relationships

I recently interpreted the following dream:

“I was at some formal event dressed to the nines with my buds, and we were uphill from a dancefloor that was connected to where we were with a sidewalk (all of this was outside).

It seemed like a prom, but it was different architecture, so I’m thinking it was kind of like a wedding.

The important part was that we were all uphill because our friend (let’s just call him Bob) was throwing up in small bouts repeatedly. We were trying to figure out what to do and trying our best to be supportive.

This was all interrupted by a man with a deep voice (one of the other guy’s father’s I assumed in the dream) shouting as he came over a hill that was slightly higher ground than where we were.

He was shouting as if this guy in our group was in trouble about something.  It was one of those bouts of shouting so reprimanding that you kind of feel in trouble yourself, even though it’s not directed towards you.

Somewhere after that I woke up but that’s all I remember.

I would love interpretations, especially involving myself, because it seemed like the dream was showing me something about these two guys…

“Bob” is now in a relationship that he is going to try to take through college, but I don’t think will work out.

And

The kid getting yelled at is apprenticing to become a pastor, and his Dad is passively rich through ownership of a lot of stock in a company.”

My interpretation of the dream

At the first level of dream interpretation, each character represents a different part of yourself. The part of yourself similar to Bob is a part that should give up on relationships that are not good if they’re making you sick. This part of yourself, Bob, is it is in danger of going downhill if he doesn’t rid himself of negative emotions.

Vomit is a combination of water and food. Water in dreams is invariably emotions. Food is nurturance. Vomit is spoiled nurturance that is no longer good for us and must be expelled. The dream is saying to get rid of negative relationships because it will bring you down hill otherwise.

Your friend Bob who is also a part of you is getting rid of something that was once nurturing, but is no longer good for you and just is making you sick. In any case, it is a statement of advice for now or for the future.

His father reprimanding the guy becoming a pastor is your inner father introject that wants you to succeed financially (like he has) and doesn’t want you to do too many altruistic things (symbolized by wanting to be a pastor) that are too self sacrificing.

A dance setting is usually about how you are going to engage with others in life. He is making decisions about staying with relationships that make you sick. He is also deciding to do what he wants in life (helping others) or going for the money.

Dream 330: Don’t Go Downhill

A man dreamed he was at an outside wedding. He was dressed formally for the wedding and was uphill from the outside dance floor. He and his friends were uphill from Bob who was throwing up repeatedly. Bob in reality was in a relationship that he wanted to take through college, but everyone thought the relationship was unlikely to work.

One of his friend’s (George) was completing an apprenticeship to become a pastor. His father was passively rich and very financially successful from the stock market. George’s father came down from higher ground to scream and shout at George.

Interpretation

The setting of a dream frequently indicates what type of issues are going to be addressed by the dream. At the first level of dream interpretation, each character represents a different part of yourself. Men characters tend to go more with action part of the mind while women characters often go with subconscious emotions. A wedding most often signals integration within the dreamer because a wedding is the union of male (actions) with female (emotions).

The part of the dreamer similar to Bob is a part of his mind that should give up on relationships that are not good and are unhealthy. This part of the dreamer was in danger of going downhill if he doesn’t rid himself of negative emotions.

Vomit is a combination of water and food. Water in dreams is invariably emotions. Food is nurture.

Vomit is spoiled nurture that is no longer good for us and must be expelled. The dream was saying to get rid of negative relationships because it would bring the dreamer downhill otherwise. His friend Bob who is also a part of the dreamer’s mind was getting rid of something that was once nurturing, but was no longer good and was just making him sick.

In any case, the dream was  advice for now or for the future. George’s father reprimanding George for becoming a pastor was his inner father introject that wanted him to succeed financially. This father introject didn’t want him to do too many altruistic things that were too self-sacrificing.
