What does being stabbed in the heart mean in a dream?

I cannot believe how I have been hurt
I cannot believe how I have been hurt

Dream 315: You Actually Did That!

A woman dreamed that she was asleep in the dream. Someone was sneaking up on her with a knife. She woke up just as they went to stab her in the heart. She dreamed that she woke up as the person was completing actually stabbing her in the heart. She later indicated that the attacker was a hooded figure.

Interpretation

Being stabbed in the heart often means that the dreamer has been hurt and has heartache over either words or actions. Being asleep in a dream usually means that the dreamer was unconscious or unaware of what led up to the hurt, but she suddenly woke up while being stabbed which usually indicates sudden awareness and shock that the hurtful actions and/or words are occurring right in front of her.

The first level of dream interpretation is always the hardest but potentially the most beneficial.  At this first level, where you consider each character to be a part of the dreamer’s psyche, a hooded figure like that is often the dreamer’s shadow. We think of it as being the aggressive part which is used for self-protection and usually is the main part that changes in therapy.

If the dream is looked at in that way,  her shadow could be urging her to wake up and have a change of heart because she was  hurt.  The shadow wants to get  her out of the situation. Messages from the shadow are almost always dramatic and this may or may not apply to the dreamer’s situation.

Stabbed in the Back

Dream 279: Stabbed in the Back
A 26-year-old woman dreamed that her boyfriend stabbed her in the back.
Interpretation
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s mind. The first level is the most difficult and the most productive. Men tend to be associated with action parts of the mind, while women go with more emotional parts of the psyche.

So at the first level her actions are attacking her emotions. She recently was upset over her boyfriend starting to drink again, and it frightened her what whe might do to him which included physical retaliation. She feared she might do some rash and drastic action based on how she felt emotionally.

The back supports us. The dream is using the back as a metaphor for psychological support. She felt that his drinking again was a major disruption of her personal support system. She literally felt “stabbed in the back.”

This latter observation is the second or interpersonal level of dream interpretation. Usually it is the dreamer who is most accurate at this level. The dream interpreter simply does not have enough access to all the interpersonal details like the dreamer does. When the first and second levels are both true, as in this case, we call it condensation. The dream packs the maximum amount of information it can into the smallest space.

The Meat Market–Cut It Out

He Wants to Help Cut It Out??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Dream 275: Cut It Out–No Yearning for the Meat Market A 36-year-old woman dreamed that there were two copy machines at her therapist’s office, a regular one and a large one. The regular copier worked fine. The large copier produced over-sized copies. She adjusted it so that it produced copies that were only 104% the size of the original.

She then saw herself driving a car through a forest. At different times a man in a white suit with a butchers cleaver would appear to the right as an image to her. These images appeared three times.

The dream shifted to a cow that was disoriented and “loony.” It was pointlessly milling about and mooing like it was yearning for other cows. It stumbled into a mud pit, but was able to climb out of it.

Interpretation
The copy machines were encouraging her to retain what she learns from therapy (since her therapist was in the dream and copy machines are used to keep information). The dream was urging her to retain what she learned in therapy. The different sizes were urging her not to “make mountains out of mole hills” as the large copier was so large it was almost unusable. It also indicated she was trying to get a good perspective on things in her life as she was only exaggerating concerns a bit (104% images).

Three is the number of change as three people in a relationship is inherently unstable. The three (change) white (white is the most spiritual color) men were the conscious (the right side tends to go with conscious action) heroic masculine or action parts of yourself urging her to “cut out” (the butcher’s cleaver) some behavior. The appearance of the heroic masculine (the action part associated with positive change in psychotherapy) and the color white implied this is deep spiritual healing. The forest simply indicated that she was “not out of the woods yet.”

Dreams are seldom subtle. A butcher’s hatchet, along with a cow later in the dreams may be suggesting that she avoid being on the “meat market” dating scene because it would drive her “loony.” It wanted her instincts (animals represent instinctive urges) to avoid getting “stuck in the mud” and avoid yearning too much. That her instincts were able to climb out of the mud was a vote of confidence from her subconscious.
