The above article is the best dream therapy article I have have read in some time. I think the thing about dream therapy is that it took me ten years to get really good at it–I mean I was always OK, but did not feel accomplished until I had been doing it for a while.
At some point, the interpreter has to seriously believe and move on the images and what they are saying, and not get distracted by rationalization because we do not like the news that the dream is delivering.
At the end of the article, the dream about the woman who would not jump into a pool in spite of being urged to do so by friends reinforces the importance of water in dreams. Water virtually always is emotion. At the first level, it probably means that she avoids diving into her own emotions. At the second level, it probably means that she is avoiding getting emotionally involved with others, such as friends, too much.
People wonder if dreams mean something–it is rare for a dream to mean absolutely nothing in a relatively healthy person. The more frequent mistake is underestimating the meaning of a dream. The question more often is how many levels of reality is the dream addressing?

A 36-year-old fine arts professor dreamt that he was on the patio of a Mexican restaurant. There was a wasp’s nest above the kidney shaped bar. Suddenly, a wasp flew down and stung him in the head. The dream shifted to him listening to a waittress. She was telling him about a long sordid affair she had with a professor.
This professor recently received job offers from colleges in Ohio and California. WASP also stands for White Anglo Saxon Protestant. I asked him which college was more conservative. He replied that the college in Ohio was much more conservative and he did not know if it would tolerate his avant-garde teaching style and research. I asked him what he associated with Mexican restaurants, and he replied California. I asked him what was the biggest mistake he ever made in his field, and he replied that he regretted a decision not to attend a college in California. That she, the waittress had a sordid affair with a professor indicated that his emotions (the waitress) had been untrue to his intellectual decisions (the male professor)—this was highlighted by the fact that he regretted not going to college in California/
The dream voted in the direction of the college in California. His subconscious exclaimed that a conservative atmosphere was hard on his head and thinking. A restaurant in a dream nurtures one psychologically, and the dream is saying that, for him, California is much more likely to be nurturing.
The female waittress is a part of his work emotions. In dreams, a waittress is often seen as “one who waits.” He told me consciously that his biggest career mistake was not attending a learning institution in California. The waittress is talking about an emotional mistake with a professor. The dream is warning him about making sincere and solid emotional connections. The dream is screaming that he needs to attend a learning institution in California.

I have had very vivid and odd dreams every night for the past month. Yet when I awake I usually only remember pieces. I was standing in front of my ex husband. We were talking as I began to think in my head about our split. Reminding myself of the monster he became…the reason I left. I used to have no voice when in his presence so I was reminding myself before I made eye contact.
I reached in my pocket though and pulled out a seemingly endless stack of large bills. He put his hands out and one by one I placed the bills in his Palm. It never ended. I remember thinking what about my needs. If I give it all I’ll have nothing. He never stopped me and I never spoke up.
I looked down and Instantly fell to my knees. I quickly place my hands out to catch This large Brown ribbed vase. I was unable to catch it in time. The glass broke shattering and slicing my right Index finger. I remember specifically the feel of glass shards across my fingers.
I looked up to see a woman I have not yet the chance to meet. She had black curly hair old style framed glasses. She had a dark-tinted color to her, like not a normal color. She just stared blankly at me. It was creepy, almost like I felt I was in trouble.
I heard “Watch her–When she appears pay close attention to her.” Then I woke up. I’ve yet to understand this one. A lot of my dreams are about money or past lives, even god. I’m not sure why the oddities, but would greatly appreciate any Insight.
Money usually represents energy in dreams. He was a viper who took all your energy and never reciprocated.
The woman in your dreams is negative emotions. Jung called her the queen or the negative mother complex. She resides in everyone’s subconscious.
The queen is all about power and control. Her attitude toward you is capricious and arbitrary.
Her motto is “ask not what I can do for you–ask what you can do for me now.” She looks very strong, but will wilt unless the odds are overwhelmingly in her favor.
The savage masculine will aggravate and make her stronger. It sounds like you were married to a savage masculine man. The only part of the psyche that has any success against her is the heroic masculine–which usually involves being dedicated to taking positive actions that focus mainly, if not exclusively, on your needs and not making any excuses about it nor apologizing for looking after your needs.
I think the brown vase falling and cutting your finger right before the queen appears was done to emphasize that the queen is the emotional part of yourself that is hurting you. When glass is breaking in a dream, that usually means that the emotional impact of something is finally fully reaching you. Her favorite putdown is “who do you think you are.”
I hope this is helpful.

A woman dreamed something was chasing her in a dream that wanted to kill her.
This is a common dream. Often the thing that is chasing you is your own shadow. We reject the Shadow and want nothing to do with it and so we run away from it.
We think of this Shadow is being aggressive, but not necessarily. Anything you have rejected or even not used is probably in your shadow. If I decided not to become a priest, there’s a priest in my Shadow.
Many times the shadow is chasing a person in their dreams because we do not consciously want to recognize it. Often the shadow is trying to get your attention to show you that there is some part of the shadow that you may want to use that could be helpful in a given situation for your survival.
Each character in a dream is a part of the dreamer’s mind at the first level of dream interpretation. Death in dreams usually means change. It means that a part of you needs to die psychologically, not literally.
What this means is that there’s a part of your personality that needs to change– that needs to be moved down your priority list of parts of your mind and personality to use. Part of your personality needs to die so that another part of your personality can be moved up the priority list and use some more or maybe even you might use a part of your personality that you’ve never used before.
So the upshot of all this is that your Shadow probably is chasing you to try to get you to use a part of it to help yourself, but you don’t want anything to do with it because you completely reject your Shadow and run.
Usually the solution, that I have found helpful in therapy, is to have people consciously say to themselves that they’re going to turn around and face the thing that’s chasing them the next time they have a dream like this. If you keep repeating this each night before you go to sleep, there’s a good probability that it will happen. The subconscious responds to repetition.

Dream 393: A coed dreamed that a football player who was a “player” socially (had many affairs with different women at the same time) wanted her to be his girlfriend. She could see his girlfriend in the background. The girlfriend was angry and anxious.
Each living thing in a dream represents a part of the dreamer’s mind. Women usually go with an emotional power of the mind while men tend to go with an action-oriented part of the mind. The football player in the dream represented her wanting to date a player and convert him to being faithful to her.
This conflict had deep psychological roots. She constantly felt the need to prove herself worthy by winning the competition for a popular man or alpha male over other women. This was because she felt in a one-down position from wealthy and popular women who were her friends. Her family had once been wealthy but fell on hard times.
Her relationships with players invariably ended with her feeling angry and anxious. She was caught in what Freud called a repetition compulsion. She was trying to prove needlessly that she was as good as other women despite being beautiful and having many positive qualities.
The girlfriend in the dream represented how she ended up feeling pursuing “players.” She invariably ended up feeling angry and anxious. The dream was a warning to stop engaging in this repetitive mistake.

Dream 391: Avoid Provocations and Act More Like Dad
A woman had the following dream:
“I dreamed my ex and I were someplace about to cross the street as I stepped into the street a car full of young men speed up in front of me nearly hitting me… I panicked and banged the hood of their car. This angered them all as did when my ex told them to ef’n watch what they’re doing. The driver turned looked at his friends in the backseat and front passenger seat… I saw him reach for a gun… I turned and ran…hearing gunshots…my ex was killed.
After that dream waking me up when I fell back asleep I dreamed of my dad who passed away from a heart attack 1 1/2 ago.. It wasn’t so much a dream but a flash of different memories of him, i kept seeing of him in my dream. Smiling, laughing, being silly, making his grumpy faces, hearing his voice, cooking.. I don’t know these two dreams left me wondering if they had any meaning.”
Each character represents a different part of the psyche with women going more with an emotional part and men going more with your actions. An ex represents a relationship you rejected and he (an action part) is killed. What this means is that you have decided not to engage in behavior that enrages others (such as swearing and pounding your fist in anger) even if you are provoked.
The father in your dream is your father in your mind, your father introject, which is often the basis of actions. You have fond memories of what he was like. It sounds like you want the basis of your actions to be somewhat similar to the way your dad did things.

A woman had the following dream: “I had a strange dream I was walking then I saw my sister at an office and she says that my mom got bit by ants. I believe that was the doctors office. It ended there.”
“Each living thing in the dream represents a part of your mind at the first level. It sounds like it mainly involves emotions since women tend to go more with emotions. The mother in the dream is the mother in your mind that we call the mother introject. The mother introject is often the basis of emotions.
Animals (in this case ants) usually represent our instincts, what we are prone to do naturally. Ants are methodical, routine and focused on accomplishing what needs to be done for the group compulsively.
Being bit by ants is a nuisance/irritating. I wonder if there is a situation (maybe involving family) where you have put in a lot of work and are feeling a little annoyed or taken for granted?”
The dreamer responded with the following confirmation: “Yes, my sister was over for a month. My sister is very bossy and doesn’t use nice words to tell them to do things. Not cursing, not a sweet person very cold and mean!”
Dream 390: Old MacDonald had a Barn Full of Energy
A woman had the following dream:
“I dreamed that the family I babysit for (I am friends with the mother) had lost like a friend or family member and a very large sum of cash was owed/given to them. The family drove me to the place to pick it up because they needed help getting it. We go to this farm looking space and I walk into the barn/ware-house type building. It was only being lit from the natural lighting coming from outside but it was enough for me to see this huge trunk in the middle of the room that i needed to use to put the money in for the family, there was huge wads of cash and single bills scattered about the floor. I filled up the trunk as much as I could, and left the rest there, as I made my way back to the family’s car. Just because I was the only one in there taking the money for the family, it felt in a way like I was stealing, but i was only doing what I was told to do, I think I felt odd being the one having to go get the money instead of one of the family members doing it themselves, but they said they needed me to help get it for them. When I got to the car, a man who was following me, walked up to us (tan, dark hair and handsome; wearing overalls), said sorry he was not in the room with me to help out and he had work elsewhere to do, and he brought me the remaining cash that was for the family. Then we all drove away.”
In dreams, money is energy. The barn is a natural and I want to say innocent place where your instincts (animals) are nurtured.
It sounds like you want to give all of the instinctive energy you can to the family you babysit for and want to give even more, but hold back wondering if you should, but then say it is okay because that is what I am supposed to do.
You get the energy free of charge from the universe by doing what you do for this family and you even get paid for doing it (no reason to feel guilty about being paid). The heroic action part of yourself feels that you could give even more energy to this family because it is nothing but good. What a country!
The tall, dark and handsome man is the representation of your own heroic masculine archetype which is often the initiator of therapeutic action, of things that are good for you. This part wholeheartedly wants you to feel uninhibited in giving personal energy to the family (the energy of the universe is supplied to you without your asking for it and this is a good thing for you and for the family).

“Dreams are wonderful for me lately. I dream of my deceased parents staying married (they divorced when I was 4), seeing them grow old together. Just wishful thinking?”
Whatever theory you look at in mental health, it eventually gets back to mom and dad, it is not the whole thing, it is just a part of it which gets less and less as you get older but there is probably always still some remnant of your parents. The mother and the father you dream of now are the mother and father in your mind which are called a mother introject and a father introject.
The father introject is most often the basis of your actions. The mother introject is most often the basis of your emotions.
Marriage is a union of different parts of your mind. If it is a marriage between your father and your mother, it typically represents you’re integrating your emotions with your actions. The fact that you dream of them growing old together indicates that the integration is a long-term effect. Congratulations!

Dream 375: Permission to Master and Guide My Emotions and Creativity
A woman had the following dream:
“I was talking to my dad asking his permission to bring home a grand piano. He said we have to ask your mom. So,anyway I brought the grand piano in a den that I’ve never seen before nor have I been there. My mom and dad were there and I said to my mom “Can we keep it? The piano matches the mantel, mom, please.” She said, “Okay.” The dream ended there.”
At the first level in a dream, your father represents your father introject which is often the basis of your actions. Your mother introject is usually the foundation of your emotions. So this is a big dream.
A piano, and particularly a grand piano, usually represents creativity and mastery. Music puts us in a certain mood that we control by our selection of music we play so that it can be emotionally related. It may be related to deciding to control your emotions.
In thought emotionally, and in action, you decided on some level to give yourself the means to make beautiful music emotionally or something on that order would be my first idea. And giving yourself permission to do this creative or emotional thing is something that you have decided upon to let yourself do.

Dream Question 370: A female dreamer asked: What does it mean if you dream that you have sex with someone almost identical to yourself?
Sex at the first level usually means integration especially if it was good consensual sex. If you have a dream where you are having sex with someone who is identical to yourself, how the act was performed would make substantial difference in my world.
Let’s say the act was very loving, then the dream would be signaling that you were integrating love into yourself. If the act was aggressive but none the less satisfying, the dream would be signaling either that you have integrated some aggressive impulses into your personality, or the dream maybe advising for some reason that you integrate some aggression more into your personality. This isn’t necessarily bad, because it’s aggression that gives us the get up and go to accomplish things. It just has to be controlled by other parts of the personality.
The more intimate the sexual act, the more integrated it is. Having sex with an identical self is rather awesome in a way because it is saying that you really don’t need any other person other than yourself. Women usually represent an emotional part of the dreamer, and since the dreamer was a woman, the emphasis is on emotional integration. If the dreamer were a man, the dream would be emphasizing integrating his actions since men tend to go more with action parts of the mind.

In a dream, the dreamer who was a man was in a medical facility escorting a young soldier to an operation. A dark haired lady and another fellow were pushing the soldier along on a cart. The dreamer somehow knew the two physicians were actually escaped convicts. The soldier was given a syringe of something and passed out.
Dreams at a medical facility or physicians are often about healing. Each person in a dream usually represents a part of your mind with men going more with actions and women going more with emotions. The convicts would be shadow parts of the personality that are imposters.
A soldier typically represents the heroic masculine because he is willing to die for his country. This part of the personality is often a healing action part–it is a part of the dreamer that is usually involved in implementing the healing actions. The problem is that he is wounded and needs genuine help and not imposters.
The syringe that causes him to pass out is a phoney cure. The implication is that the dreamer has been wounded and is trying to get healing, but is taken advantage of by imposters that do not have his best interests at heart. There is an implication that the dreamer is looking for a substance or force outside himself for healing that causes him not to be conscious (the soldier passes out) of his best interests. The remedy is not to believe imposters posing as healers who are criminally minded. The bottom line may be a warning to rely more on his own internal strength or soul.

“Twice within a month I have dreamed of large tomatoes… (I’m saying bigger than your head large).
Also last night I dreamed of a black horse that was bleeding,I tried tending to the wounds. It was dark and I was in the woods.”
She later indicated that the horse ran away in the dream.
Food represents support, psychological support or emotional support in a dream.
The tomatoes are large maybe because the dreamer wanted some juicy and nurturing psychological support for which she probably was longing.
At the first level of dream interpretation, a person or animal or spirits usually represents different parts of your mind . Horses often represent female sexual power or energy, literally they are “horsepower.”
The horse being black indicates that this horse may represent the shadow side of sexuality. That part of the dreamer’s world has been hurt deeply and she was trying to repair it and get her instincts back in line. She probably wants to run away from the deep issues of shadow sexuality that this dream may represent.
Like the horse in the dream, she was probably hurt, restless, and running around trying to find her way. Her trying to help the horse in the dream indicates that she probably needed emotional healing.

The following is a dream I interpreted as a moderator on Dale Miesen’s Facebook Power of Dreams page. The dreamer is an adult woman in the post is presented in the form it was posted to the Power of Dreams.
“I am in China somewhere in a city, with some man I know, possibly a friend, he tells me to wait while he has to go into a Museum to get something, I ask to go with him because I Love Museums, yet he tells me to wait at the bus stop nearby, so I wait, and wait, then a small chinese girl butts into this dream and tells me the most awesome story of how the stars or rain comes down to earth and turns into the salmon then into bubbles that protect the water? something like the circle of life story really beautiful, then I am at the bus stop again, yet get the inkling to climb the Museum walls to get a view of the city? and while looking around, this bubble centipede is coming up the wall past me as I look down and there’s this little girl playing on a sort of huge construction ladder that she shouldn’t be on, and the centipede is attempting to rescue her.”
The museum implies aesthetic interests. You are “climbing the walls” looking for something interesting. The Chinese girl usually represents emotions the dreamer is trying to figure out as women most often go with emotions, and some say the Chinese are inscrutable. The moral of the Pocahontas-like story is that natural things, living things, and little things are very important in the circle of life. The implication is that these are the things that the dream wanted her to pay attention to.
It wanted her to focus on living things like the little centipede which may seem unimportant at times but which are actually very important for life. Her subconscious did not want her to get distracted thinking about trying to climb to the top in her work life. The ladder implies climbing to the top and the fact that it is a construction ladder emphasizes that the danger is in going back to heavy work.
The worries she had about the girl in the dream is the worry she has about herself doing work that may not be right. The dream would rather that she focus on living aesthetic seemingly little things rather than taking too many risks thinking of doing heavy work. The circle of life was very important in her life now.

Is this a beautiful young woman or an old lady? It depends upon your point of view.
Dream 350: My Love Gets Carried Away
An adult man dreamed that his girlfriend was being carried away by a young woman and an old lady. Something kept him from being able to reach his girlfriend to stop them from carrying her away.
Each character in the dream can represent a part of the dreamer’s mind. Women tend to go with the dreamers emotions. Young attractive women typically represent beautiful emotions.
An old lady is typically thought of as being a Crone which is an archetype of wisdom in old age and experience. An archetype is a pattern of thought that is repetitive throughout human consciousness. This dream is about how the dreamer’s emotions could get carried away.
He seemingly fears losing a lover after he has invested all of his emotions in her. His greatest fear probably is that this would happen and there was nothing he could do about it. It sounds like he is worried about losing the love of his life.

A woman dreamed she rode a unicorn through a series of thorn bushes and meet a stranger that offered her help. The unicorn disappeared. There was a direction marker pointing south. A stranger appeared who was covered with oil. The stranger who was anointed with oil offered her the great advice that she herself could fly and did not need the unicorn in order to fly. Then she flew away and woke up.
Animals represent instinctive processes. A horse often represents female sexual power. Men have dreams of horses far less often than women. The unicorn brings the element of magic.
The dream portends that the dreamer’s journey through romantic relationships has been thorny. She had been hurt by galloping through situations that she hoped would magically lead to growth (bushes are plants), but had mostly led to her being hurt (the thorns). It is interesting that the most romantic flower, roses, grow on thorny bushes.
I like the idea of the stranger being sacred advice because he is anointed with oil. Being male, he is likely to be offering advice about future actions rather than it being strictly emotional advice. North is at the top of a map and in my mind would imply flight in this case. It is not a usual symbol, but I believe the emphasis is on not letting things “go south,” i.e., get even more negative, by magically hoping that her instincts would get her to where she wanted to go.
The revelation is that she could take flight, which has spiritual implications of her finding her higher self rather than hoping that following her instincts will magically lead her to higher ground away from thorny situations.
This dream was a gift and was giving specific information. If she was recovering from a relationship, or looking for a relationship, the implication was for her to take time out and focus on her higher self.
A woman dreamed she was in a gigantic cathedral whose ceiling went far into the sky. There were 3 five-year-old boys who ran over to a pew where she was. They were very excited and each wanted her to choose him.
She felt she had to touch each of their hands to pick the right one for her. She felt a massive energy exchange when she touched each one. She then had a second dream of a tiny loving puppy curled in her lap.
The dream starts out in a Cathedral so it is probably about spiritual choices. There are three young boys. 3 is the number of change because 3 people in a relationship is the most unstable situation .
The idea is that each of the little boys is a part of the dreamer’s psyche. They are action parts of her psyche because they are male. (Female characters tend to go with more emotional parts of the mind.)
The dream was predicting that the dreamer will pick a new course of action with spiritual implications. Puppies like kitties usually go with affections. Only puppies usually go more with men which again goes with an action part of the mind.
All in all, looking across the two dreams, they were probably predicting, I believe, that she was going to choose a new course of action which had spiritual implications that she was going to love. The energy exchange she felt when she passed her hand in front of each boy indicated that her choice will bring new energy into her life.

A career woman dreamed that she was flying like superwoman. A flying robot was flying after her trying to catch her, which he never did. It was like having to escape from the flying robot helped her to learn to fly better.
She saw a festival and went down to feast before returning to flying. She could hear her mother saying that she should go home and take care of her babies instead of partying and flying around. The dreamer felt resentment that she had to stop flying to take care of her babies (the dreamer had no children in real life.)
Flying implies that the dreamer is feeling personally powerful and able to accomplish many goals. A robot is not human in a mechanical repetitive rote memory way that is boring. A baby represents new projects in the dreamer’s life or new parts of herself that she wants to develop.
Each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s mind which is the first rule in my book Dreams: Guide to the Soul. Her mother in the dream is the image of her mother she introjected into her subconscious as a child. The mother introject is often the basis of the dreamer’s emotions. In this case, the mother introject is functioning primarily to make her feel guilty for not living up to her responsibilities.
Given the above, I have several thoughts: (1) The dreamer felt held down and wanted to fly, (2) Her attempts to avoid being robotic-like (she is flying away from a pursuing robot) encouraged her to fly (to boldly strike out in new directions), (3) She felt guilty about festivaling/feasting too much (her mother introject did not approve) and (4) She probably feel held down by new projects (the dream is emphasizing new babies which are usually new projects or developing new parts of herself, i.e., “it’s your baby.”)
The dreamer later told me that “feeling held down is exactly how I feel, it is a good representation of how I feel….I just feel weighted down by all these things, even new projects..and I have little to no energy to make myself become not weighted down……the way I interpreted my dream was, I have to take care of some projects before i learn, or am finally able to fly.”

A man dreamed he was at an outside wedding. He was dressed formally for the wedding and was uphill from the outside dance floor. He and his friends were uphill from Bob who was throwing up repeatedly. Bob in reality was in a relationship that he wanted to take through college, but everyone thought the relationship was unlikely to work.
One of his friend’s (George) was completing an apprenticeship to become a pastor. His father was passively rich and very financially successful from the stock market. George’s father came down from higher ground to scream and shout at George.
The setting of a dream frequently indicates what type of issues are going to be addressed by the dream. At the first level of dream interpretation, each character represents a different part of yourself. Men characters tend to go more with action part of the mind while women characters often go with subconscious emotions. A wedding most often signals integration within the dreamer because a wedding is the union of male (actions) with female (emotions).
The part of the dreamer similar to Bob is a part of his mind that should give up on relationships that are not good and are unhealthy. This part of the dreamer was in danger of going downhill if he doesn’t rid himself of negative emotions.
Vomit is a combination of water and food. Water in dreams is invariably emotions. Food is nurture.
Vomit is spoiled nurture that is no longer good for us and must be expelled. The dream was saying to get rid of negative relationships because it would bring the dreamer downhill otherwise. His friend Bob who is also a part of the dreamer’s mind was getting rid of something that was once nurturing, but was no longer good and was just making him sick.
In any case, the dream was advice for now or for the future. George’s father reprimanding George for becoming a pastor was his inner father introject that wanted him to succeed financially. This father introject didn’t want him to do too many altruistic things that were too self-sacrificing.

Dream Answer 319: When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going
Newts have the unusual ability to regenerate eyes, intestines, hearts, spinal cords and jaws. Lizards are reptiles that are quick to avoid their many enemies and predators and have amazing defenses. Some lizards, to escape a predator who has them in their clenches, can actually separate their tail from their body with the tail still having movability to distract the predator so that they can get away. That lizard will later regenerate the tail.
Animals represent our instincts. Both newts and lizards negotiate and travel in or on water (emotions) and land (conscious thinking). Newts and lizards would represent the part of the person that has adaptive defenses that are regenerative and quick in many different kinds of situations.
Both would usually be a good sign in a dream. Newts probably lean toward generating or regenerating your get up and go, while lizards probably go more with being able to adapt to and defend yourself in difficult circumstances. It is interesting that during the early stages of development a fetus comes very close to looking like an amphibian.

A man dreamed that he looked out the window from his bedroom at night and saw flashing lights of different colors. When he went out to the door he was pulled up into the air by aliens. Dave called his body and the dreamer let them without resistance. He had the thought that he was being upgraded. He felt no pain. He returned to earth and went about his normal routine.
Colors are usually different emotions in dreams. That the dreamer was pulled into the air suggest that he was forced to go to a higher level and look at his emotions from a completely different perspective than what he was used to. The aliens are new unknown parts of himself.
The dream suggests that the way he was looking at his emotions now is different from the past. So different that in the beginning it felt alien; however, there were no real worries because his emotions were upgraded. It is likely that he was confronted with a very different and difficult emotional situation that was alien to him. His looking at the situation from a different and higher perspective allowed him to be emotionally upgraded so that he felt no pain.
Carl Jung thought that UFOs were a “mandela of divine possibility.” In other words, he thought it represented mankind’s hope that there was something out there, more than us, that was watching over us and interested in us. In many ways it represents the hope that there is more to life than what we see, which science has supported with the idea of dark matter. According to that theory, we see about 20% of the universe which is the part of the universe that are the effects of the dark matter. The truth is out there.

A woman dreamed that she was underwater in a swimming pool that was a combination of a swimming pool and the ocean. It seemed vast and open on the one hand, but had a ladder and swimming pool accessories on the other hand. In the water with her was a shark with a bloody mouth because he had just been feeding.
The shark made no move towards attacking her. She decided to leave the pool because she could not hold her breath any longer. She climbed up the pool ladder and was intending to go towards her mother and sister.
The shark grabbed her by the right leg as she was leaving the pool/ocean. The shark did not hurt or bite her. The shark only put enough pressure on the leg that she could not leave the ocean/pool.
Water is invariably emotions in dreams. Particularly subconscious emotions. It depends upon what type of body of water it is also.
The open ocean represents the best symbol we have for the vast subconscious. A pool represents our emotions at home because pools are located near homes. The image in the dream sounds like a combination of the ocean and a pool so that they together represent deep subconscious emotions at home.
Each character in a dream represents a part of our mind. Women tend to represent the parts of the dreamers mind that deals with emotions. That her mother and sister are in the dream especially emphasizes that it’s about emotions at home.
Also, the shark having a bloody mouth indicates the color red. The color red goes with the first chakra. The first chakra often deals with family (or tribe) issues. The color red also signals strong emotions such as love and anger (which are present in spades in family issues).
Animals represent our instincts. The shark is an aggressive predator. It is a shadow energy that we all deal with and are uncomfortable with for the most part.
The dream implies that she is immersed in her emotions and dealing with instincts or anger which we all have. We need these instincts to some extent to defend ourselves. The dream indicates that she worries about being overly angry sometimes at home and tries not to dwell on it as it makes her uncomfortable.
When she tries to get out of the pool to go to her mother and sister, the shark grabs her right leg. This is important. It sounded like it didn’t really hurt the dreamer but mainly wanted her to stay in the pool.
This is the dreams way of saying it wants her to deal with these emotions. The dream wanted to help her deal emotionally with others. Even the fact that it grabbed her right leg is significant.
Legs support us. The right side is associated with our conscious intentions. This suggest that the dream wants her to deal with any angers she had at home to help her be supportive to others and to herself.
Possible Details to Wonder About
We know at the first level that this dream is about emotional conflicts at home. At the next and second level of the dream, it is vital to get details from the dreamer. Let me explain.
For example, this dream could involve money conflicts and difficulty leaving home. The term “loan shark” comes to mind. One wonders whether there are money issues.
It is possible that she is subconsciously angry because she feels controlled because someone she is close to her has a financial hold on her (the shark not allowing her to leave the pool is the major clue here). Being in such a situation is especially stressful because if she leaves the current financial arrangements, she might feel that she didn’t have a leg to stand on (the shark would not let go of her leg). While it looks like she might be in a “hostile dependency” situation, getting further details from the dreamer would be vital to fully interpret this interesting dream.

(1) The intrapsychic level involves the psychodynamic processes within the person themselves. At this first level, each person or creature in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s psyche. Females signal the dreamer’s emotions, while males are associated with behavior. One can literally think of the characters/creatures/animals in a dream representing different parts of the dreamer’s psyche–either an emotional (female) or an action (male) part of the psyche.
This is at once the most difficult and most fruitful level of dream interpretation. One has to discipline oneself to see this level because the natural human tendency is to go to the second and interpersonal level of dream interpretation. At this first level, it is hard to see each character in the dream as part of the dreamer because one enters an endless hall of mirrors. For example, at the first level, the dreamer’s wife in the dream typically represents the emotional part of the dreamer’s mind that deals with his wife. (to be continued)

Dream 293:A 32-year-old woman dreamt that she was an enchilada in a pan with other enchiladas on both sides of her. She was suffocatingly hot. She was so hot that she actually woke up to find her cat and her husband on each side of her.
This dream was true on both the physical and emotional levels of dream interpretation. She woke up because she was physically hot as the heat was turned up in her house and she was between the bodies of her cat and husband. Many people interpreting dreams would stop with the physical interpretation. That is most often a mistake.
While the physical interpretation is certainly true, the emotional interpretation of this dream was also accurate. She was a very nurturing person to her family which is why she appears as food in the dream. Food is psychological nurture in dreams. She admitted that she was “hot” in the sense that her husband had not had sex with her for awhile.
In this case the word “hot” took on multiple meanings. She was “hot” in the sense that she was good-looking. She was “hot” because she had not had sex for a while. Finally her anger toward her husband was a “hot” emotion. To disregard the psychological meaning of this dream would have missed a lot.

There are many levels to dreams which include physical, psychological, and spiritual. At the physical level, it is vitality. At the psychological level, it is emotion. At the spiritual level, it is the energy of the universe.
In most dreams, all levels are true and when this happens we call it dream condensation. Dreams always use the most efficient means of communicating the most information possible which is what condensation is. Having a “big dream” is a gift that keeps on giving.

Dream 290: A woman in her twenties dreamed that she was in a broken run down apartment. She was with loved ones who were insanely content with the condition of the building. The dreamer wondered why they were so happy. They replied that they were satisfied and intended to stay.
Suddenly, the walls began crumbling, the ceilings fell in and the doors were in flames. She then had a vision of Zeus and saw a storm approaching. She somehow felt that she chose lightning which struck a tree in her yard which burst into flames. The tree fell toward the dreamer and crashed through her window.
The dreamer was unscathed, but ran out of the house because she was full of fear that she and loved ones would be hurt. As she ran outside, there was a party going on with neighbors and loved ones. It was a celebration with food and friends. She woke up craving a Pepsi.
Each character represents a part of the dreamer’s mind. A house or apartment represents the framework out of which the dreamer lives. The dream starts out by commenting that the dreamer is entirely too happy with her life when there are obvious flaws and cracks in it.
Fire represents change because fire transforms matter into energy. Lightning is instantaneous and dramatic change. That Zeus appears in the dream indicates that the tumultuous change was sanctioned by the gods.
The dream went on to say that a storm was developing in the dreamer’s life. A tree is a major symbol of integration as its roots go deep beneath visible reality (subconscious), it is present on the surface (conscious), and it opens to the sky (which often has spiritual implications). The storm in her life was disturbing or crashing into her life so that instantaneous change (lightning) was required.
Windows breaking in a dream typically means that the emotional impact has reached the dreamer, i.e., the dreamer now not only sees what is happening, but feels what is happening. The dreamer was afraid that the change would hurt her; however, the appearance of food and friends was meant to assure her that the change was or will be psychologically and socially nurturing. The dream ends by telling her to get with it because she is a part of the Pepsi generation.

Dreams 289: A man in his early forties dreamed that he was talking to some girls when he was in high school in New York. It was very casual and relaxed conversation in a restaurant located at the top of a mansion. When he left, he found himself at the top of stairs on a landing where there was a stairway to his right and there was a stairway to his left.
He went down the left stairway and knew somehow that he had to use a phone. He then went down the right stairway and found a woman that looked like his wife. She was pretty and looked like his wife. He thought she looked depressed as she was leaning forward on her arms with her forearms resting on the table. He then saw the girls he was talking to earlier pass by in the distance.
This dream is all about communication with his wife. Stairs invariably represent sex because it is a rhthymic activity that ends in a climax. The left tends to be associated in ancient India with subconscious emotions, while the right usually represents conscious activity. The dream is emphasizing the importance of communication in their sex life.
Restaurants are where people are physically and psychologically nourished. The dream is saying that there was something about the way he communicated with those girls in New York that would be useful in his marriage, that there was something about that type of communication that would be especially nourishing in his marriage.
Movement in this dream is down stairways because their sex life was a “downer.” Movement down the left involves emotion. A phone is at the bottom of this stairway to emphasize the importance of communication.
The right is associated with conscious action. In this case, his depressed wife at the bottom of these stairs represented disappointment over the lack of sexual action, intimacy, in his marriage. The dream ends by recommending interaction with his wife like he had with the New York girls that pass in the distance.

A man in his forties dreamed repeatedly that he was visited by a white robed faceless spirit. This spirited man gave the dreamer all elements of a knights armor. He was given a knights helmet, breastplate, body armor, sword, etc.
This was a recurring dream where he found himself fighting evil night after night in his protective knights armor. He felt powerful and strong. He felt the dream was spiritually significant.
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s mind or psyche. Men are usually associated more with action parts of the mind. Women usually represent more emotional parts of the psyche.
Repetitive or recurrent dreams are almost always big dreams as Carl Jung believed that some dreams meant more than others. This was especially likely to be the case with recurrent dreams. Usually, the recurrent dream is returning to a repeated theme to continue to try to resolve a repetitive problem.
This dreamer was visited by his own spirit of the heroic masculine. The heroic masculine is the most positive aspect of masculinity. It is a major archetype ingrained in the collective subconscious of mankind.
The heroic masculine motto is “to serve and protect.” This is a very spiritual dream. White is the most spiritual color.
The fact that the heroic masculine was faceless and the evil he was fighting was vague indicated that there are many aspects of himself that he is not familiar with. The dream was recurring over the course of a month as his subconscious wanted him to get to know both the positive and shadow parts of his subconscious. The dream used knights armor to emphasize that chivalry of the heroic masculine. The dream use the armor to emphasize that it was mainly about how he protected himself so that he could protect and help others.
This dream was saying that he would be protected when he uses his heroic masculine to protect himself and others from evil. This dream was saying that the dreamer had developed the positive aspects of masculinity to the point where he was a spiritual warrior. The appearance of this strong of a form of the heroic masculine indicates that he was ready to take major positive action for himself and loved ones.

Dream 287: A 47-year-old man dreamed that he and his wife were on a beach. They took their wedding rings off and threw them into a pleasantly rising wave in the ocean. They felt safe and relaxed.
A circle is the best symbol we have for the soul because it has no beginning and it has no end. A ring is circular and is worn on your finger virtually permanently. A wedding in a dream represents the integration of male and female aspects of the dreamer as it stands for a man and woman forming a committed relationship.
Water is almost always emotion. The ocean is the best symbol for subconscious emotion that there is. The dream indicated that their emotions were rising. What the dream is saying by their throwing their rings into a rising tide is that their commitment to one another was increasing and creating a new and pleasant wave of emotion. Their commitment to one another created a new wave of lasting love.

Dream 286: A Woman in her twenties had a recurrent dream that she woke up in a room with a man sleeping next to her. A noise caught her attention. She leaned over the man to see a little girl playing on the floor.
She woke the man up who picked up the little girl. The little girl had been playing with books. She looked at her book while sitting on the man’s lap. The little girl was a beautiful child that had hair so soft the dreamer could not resist touching her hair.
The dreamer asked the man who the beautiful little girl was. He had an amazing smile on his face as he said to the dreamer that the little girl was hers. As he handed the toddler to the dreamer, the child wrapped her arms around the dreamer’s neck.
The dreamer then felt that she knew exactly who the little girl was. She knew now with conviction that the little girl was hers. She felt joyously elated.
The dreamer was visited by her Divine Child archetype. The Divine Child is usually a little girl often with blonde hair and blue eyes (not necessarily) between the ages of 3 and 10 years old. She represented the dreamer’s hopes and dreams for the future.
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in a dream represents part of the dreamer’s mind. Men typically go with actions; women usually go more with emotions. This is not absolutely so, but it is usually the case.
Thus, the man in the dream and the child together represent her mature actions energized by her hopes and dreams, the Divine Child archetype. The thought is that she recently decided on actions that will further her hopes and dreams. The inclusion of books suggest a thoughtful, intelligent or academic decision might be part of the scenario. The dreamer is to be congratulated.
Only the dreamer knows enough of the details of her life to be able to apply this interpretation to her interpersonal life. The man in the dream is significant in a positive way. He is the heroic masculine archetype. His appearance is often good news because it means the dreamer is ready to take positive action in life. His motto is “to serve and protect.”
It is no wonder that this dream made the dreamer feel joyous. Usually a dreamer at this stage begins to know what they want and are ready to take steps to actualize their life. The fact that this was a recurrent dream means that this dream is a “big dream.”
Recurrent dreams are big dreams that mean more than other dreams. That is because the dream is addressing repetitive issues in the dreamer’s life. Recurrent dreams make repeated attempts to get the message to the dreamer until the dreamer “gets it.”

Dream 285: A woman dreamt said she saw a huge wave of water crashing into a building. Then she saw she two cats fighting. The fur was flying and the fight was vicious. At least one of the cats was black and white.
Water in dreams is virtually always emotion. Buildings in dreams can represent the dreamer because it is a framework out of which the dreamer operates. Family pets usually represent affections. Dogs often represent male affections or loyalty. Cats typically signal female affection or sensuality.
Each creature in the dream is seen as part of the dreamer’s mind at the first level of dream interpretation. Black and white colors typically stand for opposing feelings or good vs bad. The dream is saying that she has been hit by a wave of emotion that has led to a cat fight amongst her affections.
To know the details of what these affections were for, we would have to go to the second level or interpersonal level of dream interpretation where information from the dreamer is vital. Usually only the dreamer has enough information of the details to specify what content the symbolic conflict amongst her emotions or affections is about. I would speculate that it may have to do with her emotions toward some unspecified women because of the cats engaging in the classic “cat fight.”

Dream 282: A 42-year-old man dreamed that he saw a woman through the keyhole of his front door who was a veiled terrorist. He later saw the terrorist watching his house from several hundred feet away. His wife went out to the street and she and the terrorist got into a fight.
The fighting was very intense and cat-like. His wife was enraged that the female terrorist/spy was smoking. They were then both arrested by the police.
Each character in the dream represents a
part of the dreamer’s mind or psyche. A house can represent the dreamer because it is the framework out of which he lives. Women usually represent emotional parts of the mind.
His wife is his most significant other and that is a good representation of his overall emotions. It is of interest that the dreamer used to work as a corporate spy so he was well familiar with the emotions that go along with that role. He recently had been emotionally terrorising his wife by being unpredictably catty and somewhat harsh.
The dream assured him that no good would come of this strategy as the conflict is too intense. His wife being enraged at the smoking is probably due to his wife and that portion of his mind that deals with his wife being enraged/concerned that he was making being unpredictable with his wife a habit.
There is condensation of the two levels of dream interpretation as he feels intrapsychic conflict over the difficulties with his wife and he has some guilt over spying on her; however, the dream is also concerned with the interpersonal strife he is raising in his personal life. The police showing up and arresting the women indicated that he felt some guilt over the conflict he caused within himself and in his marriage. Police are usually superego figures that enforce the law of your conscience.

This stunning picture is of a Buddhist monk sharing his meal with a tiger. His inner peace is so strong that the tiger feels it, is not threatened by him, and is able to modulate tiger instinct. This could be a model of how to deal with the vastly different parts of each person’s mind.
In dreams, at the first level, each creature and character in the dream represents a part of the mind or psyche. If this were a dream, the tiger would represent the shadow, often the aggressive side of our instinctual nature. This instinctual nature needs to be tamed and not eliminated. The monk would typically represent an altruistic action part of the subconscious.
The Shadow energy is vital for self-defense. It also is our “get up and go” energy needed to complete any work, projects, or competition successfully. The Shadow has to allow other parts of the personality to cooperate with it or disaster unfolds.

Dream 281: A 39-year-old man dreamed that he was installing a drip line underground nearest home to water his plants. The main water pipe leading to the drip system broke and was shooting streams of water into the sky.
Water is virtually always emotion in dreams. A drip line guides water to plants so that it is distributed evenly to the various plants. Plants represent growth. Installing a drip line means that he is managing his emotions so that he evenly distribute his emotional energy among his various personal growth projects.
That the drip line is installed underground implies the subconscious (underground=unconscious). That the water is spraying into the air means that he has no direction as to what projects he should direct his energy toward and is wasting a lot of energy. He was an intelligent man with attention deficit with many talents who did not follow through with any project. He tried to do 100 different projects at once and accomplished none.

Dream 280: Change Died
A 48-year-old woman dreamed that she bought the house of her son’s mother-in-law. When she arrived at this house, there was a dead baby in a casket with large funeral candles on each side of the casket.
This woman was hyper-critical of her son. His mother-in-law had a troubled background similar to his mother’s personal history. The mother-in-law was, nevertheless, relatively calm, more diplomatic, and less critical than the dreamer.
A house can represent the dreamer because it is the framework out of which one lives. That the dreamer bought the house indicates that the dreamer is aspiring to be a different person, to be more like her son’s mother-in-law. The deceased baby is not good news.
Each character in a dream represents a part of the dreamer’s personality at the first level of dream interpretation. A baby represents a new part of the personality or psyche that the dreamer tried to develop. So a baby represents personal growth on the part of the dreamer.
That the baby is dead signals that her attempt to be different, to be more like the calmer mother-in-law, failed. That it was an attempt to change was highlighted by the funeral candles. Candles imply fire, and fire represents change because fire changes matter into energy.
It is perfect that they were funeral candles. Funeral candles are typically unlit. The unlit candles emphasized that no change had occurred. That it is a funeral scene gives some hope because the dreamer saw her lack of change as a real loss. The dreamer is in mourning which suggests that being more like the mother-in-law personality-wise was something that the dreamer really wanted.

Dream 279: Stabbed in the Back
A 26-year-old woman dreamed that her boyfriend stabbed her in the back. Interpretation
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s mind. The first level is the most difficult and the most productive. Men tend to be associated with action parts of the mind, while women go with more emotional parts of the psyche.
So at the first level her actions are attacking her emotions. She recently was upset over her boyfriend starting to drink again, and it frightened her what whe might do to him which included physical retaliation. She feared she might do some rash and drastic action based on how she felt emotionally.
The back supports us. The dream is using the back as a metaphor for psychological support. She felt that his drinking again was a major disruption of her personal support system. She literally felt “stabbed in the back.”
This latter observation is the second or interpersonal level of dream interpretation. Usually it is the dreamer who is most accurate at this level. The dream interpreter simply does not have enough access to all the interpersonal details like the dreamer does. When the first and second levels are both true, as in this case, we call it condensation. The dream packs the maximum amount of information it can into the smallest space.

A 42-year-old man dreamed that he was swimming in the ocean infested with sharks. Sometimes the sharks would bite him, and sometimes he would bite the sharks. Neither he nor the sharks were seriously hurt by the bites.
The scene shifted to his hometown streets being flooded. Again the water was filled with sharks. He was able to bite and nourish himself from the sharks. He somehow knew that eating the sharks was “medicinal.”
A Chinese woman came to warn him not to bite the sharks too much. She did not disapprove of his feeding on the sharks, but mainly wanted him not to go overboard. He knew that the sharks were not hurt by his feeding upon them, because the bite marks immediately healed and regenerated.
Water is emotion. The ocean is the best symbol of the subconscious that we have. Creatures in the ocean, like sharks, represent subconscious energy.
Sharks represent aggressive energy because they are the ultimate predators. A persona needs some aggressive energy to accomplish goals, as aggressive energy ends up being the “get up and go” needed to achieve. Other parts of the personality need to moderate the aggressive energy so that it is sublimated into desired outcomes.
The dream starts out by noting that sometimes he is the prey, and sometimes he is the predator. When the sharks are moved from the ocean to the streets of his hometown, the dream is moving from his subconscious (the ocean) to his conscious (the land). The dream emphasizes that incorporating predator behavior into himself (eating the shark) was genuinely healing or “medicinal.”
Women tend to represent more emotional parts of the psyche. That she was Chinese was the dream’s way of indicating that her way of handling emotions was somewhat foreign to him. The message of the dream was that he perhaps should be somewhat more assertive in getting what he wanted, but that he should not take it too far.
It was interesting that shark cartilage is thought to be healing. In the dream, this was emphasized over and over. No one was hurt by being bitten. Tissue that was bitten regenerated.
The dream was not overly critical as it indicated he vacillated from being prey or predator. It just thought he should be more predator-like somewhat more of the time. He may need even to be aggressive sometimes.

A 42-year-old man dreamed that he was climbing a ladder to the top of his high school. He knew there was an airport on top of the building. As he was climbing up the ladder he looked up and saw a morbidly obese woman near the top of the ladder.
She was ready to go on the roof, but she had to make her way through a narrow tunnel to get to the airport on the top of the high school building. She was able to get through the tunnel only because the dreamer helped her by pushing her through. He felt overjoyed as he headed for the airplane.
The dreamer recently was on a diet. He was frustrated because he always came to a plateau after losing fifteen pounds when his goal was to lose fifty. Dreams like to use high school as a place where the higher self of a person is schooled. He was emotionally learning how to carry out his goal of losing weight.
Climbing a ladder can be a metaphor for accomplishing a goal as one is literally “climbing to the top.” Each character is a part of the dreamer’s own psyche with women being associated with emotions, and men being correlated with action parts of the mind. His emotions about losing weight (the morbidly obese woman) were the main barrier he had to push through to “go over the top” and accomplish his goal.
Flight is almost always related to spiritual or higher level goals. His learning how to push his emotions through so that he could lose weight was very satisfying. He felt more confidence in his appearance and in his ability to reach personal aspirations.
Dream 272: Nostalgic for Lust Emotions A 60-year-old man dreamed of an image of a woman who was a combination of two women he had sex with in his early twenties. One woman was an Olympic gymnast who he never really got over. The other was a twenty-something woman who he later discovered was married and used him for sex because her husband was physically disabled. In the dream, he saw himself trying to please this vibrant woman. He had the feeling in the dream, that no matter how hard he tried, the beautiful woman would not approve of him. He felt frustrated and downcast.
Interpretation He recently felt depressed over getting older. He totally appreciated his loving wife, but was no longer able to do what he could do physically and sexually as a young man. At the first level of dream interpretation, women usually represent the dreamer’s emotions, while men (himself) represent an action part of his mind. The dream spoke to the heart of his depression. He was nostalgic for the emotional complexity and physical lust of his relationships as a young adult. That those days were gone was the source of chronic depression. He knew he was lucky to have a loving wife and would never hurt her. He was facing the challenge of old age. He wanted to find other ways to reinvigorate his life without losing what he had gained.

Dolphins have amazing right hemisphere-like intelligence and are emotionally sensitive too. Some scientists have suggested that they are like “humans of the sea” and should be treated special. Other fans simply call them “angels of the sea.”
In any case, it is almost always good news when they show up in dreams. First of all, the ocean is the biggest and best symbol of subconscious emotion that we have. Having large mammals or sea creatures in dreams about the ocean indicates that you have a lot of instinctive energy in your subconscious or unconscious.
Dolphins are usually more of a playful and dynamic energy. This contrasts with sharks and killer whales. If the latter show up, it shows subconscious energy, but it is more of a shadow or aggressive energy.
You want to know what types of energies are operating in your subconscious. I once knew someone who knew what kind of general attitude she had towards life by the presence of either killer whales or dolphins in her dreams. It turns out that it’s usually better to have Flipper the dolphin in your dreams than it is to have Shamu the killer whale show up.

A man dreamed that he died because he was attacked by zombies. His spirit rose above the zombies but he was still able to be in the physical world. He killed one zombie by cutting his throat with garden shears.
A random zombie head somehow moving toward him bit him in the leg. He cut the zombie head in half.
Interpretation: Zombies are almost always depression. Zombies are the “living dead” which is the way major depression can feel. At the first level of dream interpretation, each character represents a part of the dreamer’s psyche or mind. So the dream is announcing that this dream will be about how he handles his depression.
Death in a dream typically means that the dreamer has to change in a major way. In other words, there is a part of the mind that needs to be shelved or “die.” The dream is saying that his new self (his spirit) needs to rise above his depression (the zombies).
The first zombie he kills (the first factor he needs to change) is negative or depressing speech. We know this because speech emanates from the throat. It is interesting that he uses garden shears.
Garden shears get rid of growth (plants). The dream is dramatically saying in regard to his negative speech, that he needs to “cut it out.”
The second zombie is intellectuallization. The dream is saying that he literally is too much in his head. The dream wants him to cut his depressive thinking at least by half.

Dream 263: A 19-year-old man dreamed that he was in a parked car at night. One of his friends from high school, David, tapped on the passenger window. He asked the dreamer to come out of the car.
The dreamer proceeded to the back of a car and simultaneously saw his best girlfriend from high school and his worst and most evil girlfriend walking hand in hand down the sidewalk in front of the car. When the dreamer went to the back of the car, David hugged him and said “You are so far gone!”
Interpretation:Being in a car parked at night means that you have been subconsciously passive. Night time goes with inactivity and passivity. Darkness usually represents the subconscious while the brightness of day represents more conscious and more active parts of the psyche.
Each character in the dream represents a different part of the dreamer’s mind or psyche. Men tend to go with more active parts of the mind while women usually represent more emotional parts of the psyche. He was being beckoned by an active part of his psyche, David, to be more active.
Two characters in a dream hugging indicates that those two parts of the psyche are integrating. The dream wanted him to integrate action into his life more.
The good girlfriend represented more positive emotional parts of himself while the evil girlfriend represented his shadow emotions.
He was very resistant to recognizing and using shadow emotions in his life. In therapy, it was clear he needed to use some of the aggressive shadow emotions because these emotions end up being your “get up and go.” It was a good sign that his positive emotions (the good girlfriend) was holding hands with shadow emotions (the evil girlfriend) because this indicated some beginning integration.
This statement that “You are so far gone!” was actually a compliment. It meant that his new outlook of being willing to be more assertive in seeking his goals was firmly established. He would never return to being his old self. See how the shadow works in dreams at http://www.drstevenfox.com
Dream 260: A 42-year-old man had some interesting dream images. He dreamed he was looking out over a field of devastation. Machines were extracting people buried in the rubble. The people found were almost invariably old. Each previously buried person was then “replaced” in the ground by a teenage rescuer who then was buried alive.
He also dreamt that a blackbird was sitting on his left pointer finger. The bird was gentle but assertive biting his finger so that it was just enough pain to know the bird was there. The bird then started to have baby caterpillars come out of it. He could see the new-born caterpillars crawling toward him.
Interpretation–His abusive mother had recently died and he felt intense conflicted emotions. He came to therapy to rid himself of his mother’s influence. She believed he was unlikely to succeed and warned him to stay away from women.
The setting of destruction reflected his intense feelings. Each character in the dream can represent a part of the dreamer’s psyche or mind. The buried people being replaced by adolescent rescuers shows his feelings that he had to deal with past “old” parts of himself. The teenagers replacing the buried old people signaled his feelings that he felt having to deal with old maternal conflicts were interfering with his developing relatively new parts of himself which in this case were his artistic pursuits. His feeling was why did he have to deal with old conflicts instead of new growth.
Birds often indicate freedom. Blackbirds in particular often are associated with death. He in many ways felt freedom from negativity with his abusive mother’s death. The bird is sitting on the left on his pointing finger because this bird is pointing to subconscious conflicts as the left often represents unconscious involvement.
He feels pain which is the dream’s way of showing that his subconscious pain can give birth to creativity. Caterpillars form a cocoon and are transformed into butterflies. The dream was saying he could use his pain to create beautiful things that would transform his life.

I am finishing my personal story and sojourn to health by putting MS into remission with the help of the universe/God. It will be my second book showing that dreams were an important part of that journey. My personal psychology enters into the picture a lot. I basically see years of physical abuse as laying the foundation for having the foundation for contracting the chronic illness of multiple sclerosis. Amazon will publish it first as an ebook. The name of the book will be something like MS Mission Remission: Healing Severe Chronic Multiple Sclerosis Against All Odds.
A 28-year old man dreamt that a pet cat was attacking and chewing on his neck. The scene then shifted to a large pit. He was standing to the side of a platform that was being lowered into the bowels of the pit. There were many people stacked on top of one another sideways with their feet toward the dreamer.
He eventually saw that the platform was descending into hell. Fire raged all about them. A great sucking force was also starting to pull him down into the ghastly pit. He resisted with all his might and reached up to his wife who was at home in bed. She refused to help him.
Dream 234 Interpretation
Family pets are associated with affections. Dogs tend to go with men. Cats tend to go with women. His wife was angry with him to the point that she could bite his head off.
The people on the platform he recognized in his own words as parts of himself “that needed to go to hell.” Feet are a supportive part of the body. The dream was emphasizing feet to show that providing psychological support to himself and his family (a wife and two sons) was a central issue.
Fire indicates the need for change as fire transforms matter into energy. He had many controlling and intimidating parts of himself that he needed to extricate from his psyche. These parts developed in response to abuse from his father and stepfathers. The dream makes a point of indicating that these threatening parts “sucked” and threatened to ruin the marriage (his wife was in bed at home). In any case, his wife had it with him and he would have to change through his efforts and not rely on her to pull him through.
Dream 228: Spilling My Guts
(female dreamer questioning) A friend of mine had a dream that her husband’s abdomen kept getting bigger and bigger and finally burst spewing out fluid. What are your thoughts on this?
Answer: Dreaming of her husband involves an action part of her psyche at the first level. The abdomen is close to the solar plexus where self-esteem resides according to traditions of the East. Water in dreams is almost invariably emotion. Putting this all together implies that she was doing something that she felt really good about, but for some reason lost the stamina to do it, i.e., lost her guts and felt emotionally drained.
As a note, the interpreter always wants to make sure that there is not an overriding physical reason involved. One wants to make sure that the body is not trying to signal that she has some serious ailment. Or it could be something like cramps or stomach upset or menstrual troubles.
Sometimes the two different levels can condense which would be something like hoping to get pregnant and then troubles occur or some variation on that theme.

Overall, about 88 percent of people dream in color. That means 12 percent of people dream exclusively in black and white. Only 5 percent of people under 25 years old dream exclusively in black and white. They think the difference in the generations is due to the introduction of color TV after people watched exclusively black and white television. http://www.boredpanda.com/15-interesting-facts-about-dreams-dreaming/
Having especially bright and vivid colors in your dreams is associated with there being more emotional content in the meaning of the dream. See how dreams are interpreted according to the principles in the book at http://www.drstevenfox.com
An executive dreamt that he left his former workplace which was a commercial building. As he walked outside it became a residential home like the house that his best friends owned. He walked to the house next door which was a thatched shanty like his bipolar ex-wife owned.
He decided not to go inside. He went back his former workplace and entered in a different and new doorway. The female vastly underemployed security guard was fastidiously checking through multiple papers to see if he could return.
The setting of the dream often indicates what issues the dream wishes to address. We know that this dream primarily deals with his work life because of reference to a commercial building. He was on disability for a year and was getting restless.
He did not feel that he could return to work fully. He was offered contract work on projects that he could work on from home, i.e., he could telecommute. The dream is screaming that he could benefit from working from home.
Each character in a dream represents a different part of the dreamer’s mind at the first level of dream interpretation. Men are usually associated with an action part of the psyche. Women typically signal an emotional part of the mind.
A house can represent the dreamer to some extent because it is the framework out of which the dreamer lives. In this dream, the different houses or buildings represent different aspects of his life, i.e. his employment, mental health and home life. The dream encourages working from home by showing the house of his two best friends he had growing up that married each other in life.
Marriage is a sign of integration of actions with emotions. He basically says no to depression by not entering the shanty since it was owned by his mentally ill ex-wife. The dream indicates he is integrating actions and emotions that are friends.
The female guard is the emotional part of himself that was concerned with his security. He was vastly underutilized like the security guard was. The dream is screaming that he needs to check his emotions, like the female security guard, to decide what projects to accept for his own security. The dream advises that he now should take a different approach to work, i.e., that he enter work through a new and different doorway.

A 38-year-old woman dreamt that she was going skin diving and had a mask on. The mask was quite prominent on her face. She remembered being pulled down to the bottom of the ocean.
She noted that there was a blackout mark over her mouth as you sometimes see in magazines only the mark is most often over people’s eyes. She had images of her mother flashing in and out during the dream.
She was having a hard time asserting herself at work in a new supervisor position. She noted that her mother had always been very unassertive and passive. Her mother introject appeared throughout the dream because it is the emotional part of herself that she is trying to resolve.
She has a mask over her face that is prominent because she feels like she is hiding and not being true to herself to a large extent. The censor mark or blackout mark is over her mouth because she does not say what she truly means to others because she is too unassertive. She feels pulled to the bottom of the ocean which is her dream’s way of saying that she needs to be true to herself and experience deeper emotion.
The ocean is the best symbol of unconscious emotion that we have. The dream was pointing out that she needs to go deeper into her subconscious emotion to change her so that she allows herself ro speak out. The dream traced the beginnings of her lack of assertiveness to her internalized mother introject. She needed to love herself more to have the confidence to assert herself.
Jung maintained that we each had a higher Self that should always be capitalized. This soulful Self was expressed through the subconscious in dreams. Her Self is asking her to change in this dream.

Life Changing Events Dream 220: Feeling Washed Out
A 28-year-old woman dreamt that she was walking along an ocean boardwalk with her mother. The water rose and engulfed them. She survived, was uncertain what happened to her mother, and felt exhausted.
Water is emotion which in this case overwhelms the dreamer. She recently came out of the closet and revealed that she was in a lesbian relationship. This affected the basis of her emotions (her mother introject) to the point that she was exhausted.
