Dream Healing 376: Mythical Name Helps Tie Into Archetypal Energy
After I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 24 years ago, I started in therapy with a Jungian dream analyst. This changed my life because I learned to tap into archetypal energies. The name was given to me by a Native American in a dream was Life Force Dancer. I emblazoned this emblem on a T-shirt. This name was symbolic of the combination of energies that would help send my multiple sclerosis (MS) into remission. This will be explained in my coming book Mission Remission

A 50 something man described having a dream that he always remembered even years later. When he was an elementary school boy, he dreamed repeatedly that he was floating above trees. From the sky,he viewed his friend and himself walking through the neighborhood on the sidewalk. He felt like he was actually floating in reality.
Dreaming that you’re floating is not as powerful as flying, but it is significant. The fact that it was a recurrent dream, a dream that occurs repeatedly, emphasizes that it was an important or “big” dream. Floating usually means that the dreamer felt content with the situation, that he was literally “floating on air” at that time.
Trees are a primary symbol of integration which means the dreamer felt pretty together personally back then. Having a friend in a dream is many times a dreams way of doubling the dreamer. The dream was doubling down on the importance of his feelings in the dream.
Alternative explanations of the dream involve it being a lucid dream or an out-of-body experience. These explanations are very speculative; however, it would explain the huge impact these dreams had on him. Decades later, he could remember this dream like it happened yesterday.

Snakes usually indicate massive change of an emotional, spiritual, physical, financial or relationship nature is taking place. This is because snakes are one of the few animals to completely shed their skin. So dreams use change as a metaphor for significant change in your life. The major change snakes reflect means that these dreams are often what Carl Jung called "big dreams."
Also, a snake is a creature and creatures are associated with instinct. So it is usually essential change that is taking place. The number of snakes and/or the size of the snakes usually indicates how big the change is.
The behavior of the snake often indicates what kind of change is occurring. If the snake is aggressive and biting you, it is aggressive change that is occurring. If you are being bitten, but not being harmed, the dream is usually indicating that you were going through stressful change but that it will not harm you in the long run, etc.
Some snakes take on a peaceful and almost beautifully sacred appearance. A dreamer I had in therapy dreamt of a golden snake who would look back at her as if expecting her to follow him out of the house where she was living. She was living with a man that was emotionally cruel to her. The snake was urging the change of leaving that situation.
On the other hand, snakes can be deceptive especially if the dream is making a play upon the words “snake in the grass.” One might want to remember that the snake in the garden of Paradise did not give good advice to Adam and Eve. This is another way of saying some changes are good and some changes are harmful.

Dream 286: A Woman in her twenties had a recurrent dream that she woke up in a room with a man sleeping next to her. A noise caught her attention. She leaned over the man to see a little girl playing on the floor.
She woke the man up who picked up the little girl. The little girl had been playing with books. She looked at her book while sitting on the man’s lap. The little girl was a beautiful child that had hair so soft the dreamer could not resist touching her hair.
The dreamer asked the man who the beautiful little girl was. He had an amazing smile on his face as he said to the dreamer that the little girl was hers. As he handed the toddler to the dreamer, the child wrapped her arms around the dreamer’s neck.
The dreamer then felt that she knew exactly who the little girl was. She knew now with conviction that the little girl was hers. She felt joyously elated.
The dreamer was visited by her Divine Child archetype. The Divine Child is usually a little girl often with blonde hair and blue eyes (not necessarily) between the ages of 3 and 10 years old. She represented the dreamer’s hopes and dreams for the future.
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in a dream represents part of the dreamer’s mind. Men typically go with actions; women usually go more with emotions. This is not absolutely so, but it is usually the case.
Thus, the man in the dream and the child together represent her mature actions energized by her hopes and dreams, the Divine Child archetype. The thought is that she recently decided on actions that will further her hopes and dreams. The inclusion of books suggest a thoughtful, intelligent or academic decision might be part of the scenario. The dreamer is to be congratulated.
Only the dreamer knows enough of the details of her life to be able to apply this interpretation to her interpersonal life. The man in the dream is significant in a positive way. He is the heroic masculine archetype. His appearance is often good news because it means the dreamer is ready to take positive action in life. His motto is “to serve and protect.”
It is no wonder that this dream made the dreamer feel joyous. Usually a dreamer at this stage begins to know what they want and are ready to take steps to actualize their life. The fact that this was a recurrent dream means that this dream is a “big dream.”
Recurrent dreams are big dreams that mean more than other dreams. That is because the dream is addressing repetitive issues in the dreamer’s life. Recurrent dreams make repeated attempts to get the message to the dreamer until the dreamer “gets it.”

Dream 250:A 42-year-old man dreamt that he was being held down by his wife while a large mare urinated massive loads of urine on his face.
Interpretation– He was debating whether to return to a long-term affair. He did not want to leave his wife because of his young daughter. He felt conflicted, but felt that his life was entwined with the woman he was having an affair with. He thought it was likely that he would not stay married to his wife if he did not have some outlet for his sexuality.
Horses often represent female sexual power. The wife in his dream was his emotions, as a significant female partner and especially a wife represents primary current emotions. In dreams, a person, animal, or spirit is a part of the dreamer’s psyche. Men tend to go with actions while women go more often with emotional parts of the mind.
Water is almost invariably emotion in dreams, and urine is negative emotions. The dream is screaming that he is forcing himself to endure negative emotions to experience female sexual power (the horse). There is a price to pay emotionally for being involved in the affair.

A 59-year-old man dreamt that he was in an auditorium at an awards ceremony. The setting was a combination of his high school and work place auditorium. He dreamt that he received a large Nazi medal in recognition of his years of work. After receiving the metal, as he made his way back to his auditorium seat, the medal shrank in size and eventually became a very small tin
badge that looked like it came out of a cracker jack box.
The setting of the dream often indicates what area of the person’s life the dream is going to discuss. High schools are often used by the dream to mean that it is a learning situation for your “higher self.” He was forced to retire from a high level executive job because of a disability. He often had nightmares about having to quit work. The dream was saying that the recognition that he received from his workplace (the medal) was dubious and was no longer of value to him so that he should take his seat with the general population (in the auditorium).

A 62-year-old woman dreamt that she was on an acute care ward because she had a heart attack. She was watching the monitor to which she was connected and saw it “flatline.” She realized that she died. Strangely, she felt overjoyed.
She dated a boyfriend who was ambivalent about leaving his long-term cohabitant, who did not love him. His current live-in girlfriend was using him for his money. The dreamer was frustrated that she could never get him to see that it was in his best interest to leave her and dwell with the dreamer.
The dream used a heart attack to show her heart was broken. The machine was giving a reading of the condition of her heart. The flat line in this case indicates stability and harmony as it is not fluctuating wildly.
The fact that she died means that her old way of handling matters of the heart died. She decided to assert herself and tell him exactly how she felt. He responded positively and their relationship changed in a major way. She was overjoyed with their new relationship which was now filled with meaningful and truthful discussions.

Steven G. Fox, Ph.D. Is the author of “Dreams: Guide to the Soul”
I am finishing my personal story and sojourn to health by putting MS into remission with the help of the universe/God. It will be my second book showing that dreams were an important part of that journey. My personal psychology enters into the picture a lot. I basically see years of physical abuse as laying the foundation for having the foundation for contracting the chronic illness of multiple sclerosis. Amazon will publish it first as an ebook. The name of the book will be something like MS Mission Remission: Healing Severe Chronic Multiple Sclerosis Against All Odds.
A 58-year-old woman dreamt that she was walking down a long hall with a mirror at the end in a house where she was married for a long time. Her deceased mother suddenly appeared and claimed the house was hers. The dreamer successfully defended her claim to the house. She then saw a hearse back up to the house where three men loaded the casket into the vehicle. She noticed that the casket slide to the right going into the hearse.
A house, especially where the dreamer lived for a long time, often represents the dreamer because it is the frame out of which the dreamer lived. The dream pointedly directs her to take a long reflective look at herself (the long hall with the mirror at the end). Her Mother introject appears (the mother instilled in her mind) and claims dominion over the dreamer which the dreamer will not accept.
The hearse implies that the mother in her died which in this dream meant that her mother introject, her internalized mother, was prioritized lower and would no longer be the major influence in her life. Three is the number of change as three people in a relationship almost always creates change. Even the casket sliding to the right is significant, as the right is associated with conscious change versus subconscious (left) change.
Her mother no longer being a major influence in her life would have real daily living consequences which would be positive. She had worked in therapy to escape the mostly negative influence of her mother. This dream indicated that her work in therapy was successful.
A 48-year-old man dreamt that he was a police officer. A mother was telling him to write down neatly the changes that needed to occur in her 12-year-old son. She complained that her son was only getting C’s and D’s.
A police officer is a superego figure (as are all law enforcement officers.) The mother in the dream is his mother introject which primarily deals with emotional issues. The son is his immature actions.
He recently was getting in trouble with his wife for swearing too much. She complained that his swearing was ruining their positive emotional atmosphere. She thought it was juvenile (the boy) and she and his mother introject gave his speech low grades (C’s and D’s). The fact that the police officer wrote down the information means that he should take special note of what his mother introject is telling him. His superego or conscience is telling him to clean up (write more legibly, communicate more clearly) his language. Get the messages from your dreams at http://www.drstevenfox.com
A 19-year-old man dreamed he was going to a shopping mall to find his high school girlfriend that recently broke up with him. He went to a pet store where she worked in the dream. She was cleaning out an animal cage. She ignored him. Her back was to him and she focused on music that was blaring from a speaker.
Dream 197 Interpretation
Dreams that start out in shopping malls are typically announcing that the dream is going to be about how the dreamer was “mauled” in life, in this case by his girlfriend. It is important to remember that each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s psyche. The girlfriend in the dream is the part of his psyche or emotions that dealt with this girlfriend.
That it occurs in a store that sells domesticated pets indicated that the dream was about how she affected his affections and instincts. That it was in a commercial establishment implied that the dream was concerned about how it affected his business which was music. The setting of the dream often points to the part of the dreamer’s life that is being affected.
The dream is blatantly urging him to ignore her and get rid of the stuff (euphemism since the part of his psyche that dealt with her was cleaning feces from animal cages) about his instinctual sexual and affectionate feelings toward her. The dreamer was a drummer for a recording studio. The dream was urging him to focus on his music.

A 34-year-old woman dreamt that she had a baby prematurely at twenty weeks past conception. The baby looked like a little man. He looked like a mentor and manager at work that she deeply admired and tried to emulate. The baby was wrapped in a blanket with the ends of the blanket stretched and tied so that the baby was encased in a stretched blanket which hung like a hammock above the incubator.
The baby was not doing well. Finally, the baby had convulsions and fell to the floor. A doctor she liked told her, “Don’t worry, that happens here all the time.” She then heard an overriding voice that sounded like the mentor she admired that said, “I found God and sobriety.”
Dream 195 Interpretation
This women’s mentor took another job and left her workplace about twenty weeks ago. She had to do all the work she performed before and fill in for his position as well. She barely knew enough to do all the functions of her transformed position.
Her being the mother of a 20-week-old baby symbolized the birth of her new work position which was twenty weeks old. She felt that her mentor left his position prematurely before she learned all the necessary functions. The baby represented her new work psyche which she felt had been “stretched and hung out to dry” (similar to the baby in the incubator.)
The good doctor was warning her that she was likely to crash if she continued on her chosen course. The overriding voice from her mentor was advising her to avoid being addicted to work (since he said he found sobriety) and to be more spiritual (he said he found God.) She decided to heed the words of her subconscious. She decided to spend less time at work, look for a new job and pursue her spiritual interests.
A 56-year-old man dreamt that he was filling in his swimming pool with dirt. At other times he saw himself caring for the pool and the water would be crystal clear.
This was a recurrent dream. Water almost invariably represents emotion in dreams. Pools represent contained domestic emotions because they are located in residential domiciles. He was working through how much emotion he would invest at home with his family. Filling the swimming pool with dirt shows a preference for grounding (dirt) ones self and covering up emotion (water). The crystal clear water was a dream of the desired emotional atmosphere at home. He wanted the family to be crystal clear in their emotional intentions.
