What is Synchronicity?

Notice Synchronicity
Notice Synchronicity

Dream 358: A woman dreamed that an ex-lover whom she had known for years were floating side by side together passively in a pool of water. They both were floating and were perfectly still. She somehow knew that he was going to die. Basically the dream was saying that their relationship died because it was drowned in emotion.

Over the years, she had an on and off relationship with him because he was a drug addict. The next day after this dream, she heard that he died from a drug overdose. From figuring the time she went to sleep and the approximate time he died, she believed she had this dream within 3 or 4 hours of his death.

She had a predictive dream of his death, which is one of the six major types of dreams in my world. Psychics tell me that traumatic events send out a stronger signal which I believe the dreamer received.

Synchronicity

Carl Jung popularized the idea of synchronicity which is a meaningful coincidence. Synchronicity happens when two things that are unrelated happen in such a way that they seem related. Her story about this dream becomes even more synchronious.

Several days later she went to her ex lover’s funeral. After they lowered the casket in the ground, as a final farewell, the viewers were supposed to pick out a flower from a variety of flowers which were presented to them. They then threw their chosen flower onto the casket in the ground. She chose a red carnation.

After she went home from the funeral, her small son said that there was a flower growing in her lawn. She had not planted many flowers in her lawn. She asked her son to bring the flower to her. The flower was a red silk carnation.  The synchronicity of these events is almost unbelievable.

Synchronicity is when things that are unrelated happen in such a way that they seem related. It is always significant and one should always take notice in your world.

Jung, like the Chinese have believed for millenniums, thought that the world was one big connection, with everything related to everything else. This idea actually has scientific support with theoretical physics idea of entangled atoms. Einstein had a mystical side which emerged more in his elderly years.

When you think of it, Einstein’s life was mystical. How do you sit down at a desk and figure out that there must be black holes in the universe when no one at that time had seen a black hole?

I believe the universe is sometimes sending a message by way of synchronicity. It is incumbent upon us to pay attention to these messages for our own benefit.

What do pets and an evil-sounding voice mean in some dreams?

Shadow Knows Best
Shadow Knows Best

Dream 355: Let It Go

“I just woke up from a dream at 3:06 when I looked at the time. I dreamt I was in a room so familiar with a door open, with a furnace, a lot of boxes, and tossed aside stuff. I had a friend over and a kitten, but that’s not what spoke to me in my dream.

It is when I walked into the room of boxes and next to the cold furnace…my roommate’s dead dog Lily. My buddy! I told my whoever was in the room to come to me, its my dog. I wanted to see if she could see her to.

I heard a meow. I looked to my left. My poor cold underground cat, my baby boy Kidd. I cried in grief but yet happy to see him.

My full attention was on him. He felt cold and a bit damp. Not what I wanted him to be since I found him barely alive in the rain one night. I cried loving him just giving him attention.

I said, “I got my wish. I got to see you again. Just wish you guys were back with me.” Then (Here’s the weird part) a voice came from inside him.

A male voice. Calming, gentle and yet again familiar. He said, “Its time for Kidd Lily and Jack (or scrap) to return now. But remember you’re still with us.” I asked him “do I know you?” He laughed a bit deeply and it worried me.

I hugged my dear cat again wishing he’ll be fine. It hurt to say goodbye again. He continued to laugh then “POOF.” I woke up as they vanished.

I’m curious. Who could that voice be? For months I had wished to have Kidd back. That voice gave him back for a few minutes…You can’t bring back the dead but you can still see them in dreams.

Thank you voice. My wish still came true cause of you. I just hope you’re not evil. My best friends deserve the best.”

Interpretation

I believe that the voice was probably his Shadow. We usually think of the shadow as being negative and aggressive and want nothing to do with it. That is why the shadow talks to him through his beloved cat, so that he might accept what it says.

It asked him to do something he did not want to do, to let go of his pets and decrease actively mourning for them. Owners are usually emotionally close to their pets. That is why parents usually represent our affections.

He tries to reassure the dreamer that he could let go of them because they will always be with him in his subconscious. When we make major changes in life, it is usually due at least partly to the shadow.

Males usually go more with action parts of your mind and that is why it is a male voice that comes out of the shadow, because it wanted him to take the action of letting go. The voice becomes somewhat mischievous and almost evil. That is because we almost always wonder if the shadow is evil incarnate.

Lack of acceptance of the shadow is a danger. The danger is that it has no contact with other parts of the personality that would keep it in line. The shadow is usually only dangerous when it does not have other parts of your mind to limit it. If other parts of the personality are not there, it becomes excessive and monstrous.

My dream interpretation method is described in my book at http://www.drstevenfox.com

What does a car revving up and being blown away by the wind mean in a dream?

  • Gentleman, Start your Engines
    Gentleman, Start your Engines

Dream 354: Gone with the Wind

A man had the following dream:

“Just had a dream that I was in a parking lot. I started my car, and when I was away from it started to rev up by its self more and more and more. I started running towards it when this happened, and a huge gust of wind hit me and launched me into the sky. When I hit the ground I woke up. What do you think this means?”

    Interpretation

A car may symbolize how you get somewhere in life. The implication of a car revving up is probably that the dreamer’s subconscious was getting impatient with the dreamer waiting on something. Being lifted up into the sky has almost spiritual significance and points to a higher level.

The fact that the car was revving up and that he was taken up into the sky by the wind which is a natural force of nature implied that his subconscious on both a practical and spiritual basis wants him to “take off.” The dream is not saying in particular what it wants him to do and that is for the dreamer to figure out.

My dream interpretation manual is at http://www.drstevenfox.com

  • What does a gigantic silver horse with a gigantic silver man riding it mean in a dream?

    Pie in the sky
    Pie in the sky

Dream 351: Pie in the Sky, By and By

A man dreamed he was looking at a gigantic silver horse in the sky with a gigantic silver figured man riding it. They were about three stories high. Large white fluffy clouds covered their lower half.

    Interpretation

There are several remarkable things about this dream. First, the figures appear in the sky. Things appearing in the sky probably are related to the dreamer’s higher aspirations.

Silver is a precious metal. Some say it could represent wealth. Each character in the dream is considered to be a different part of the dreamer’s mind at the first level of dream interpretation.

A horse is an animal and represents your instincts. Specifically, a horse in particular represents your energy or ability to accomplish what you want to accomplish in life, your horsepower. If this is a predictive dream, it was predicting that the dreamer would do well financially and otherwise.

If it is a dream of desire, and I suspect it is a dream of desire, his aspirations for what he wanted to accomplish materially are very high. Clouds emphasize how high his goals are on the one hand, while also indicating that his plans may be in the formative stage and are “cloudy.” All in all, it looks like a dream of what he wanted to carry out.

It is predicting he has the horsepower to do it. His ground game needs to be worked out as his plans could be in the sky and need to be grounded in reality. Once he works things out pragmatically, the sky is the limit.

What does a young woman and an old lady carrying your girlfriend away mean in a dream?

tmp_6868-illusion-878881958Is this a beautiful young woman or an old lady? It depends upon your point of view.

Dream 350: My Love Gets Carried Away

An adult man dreamed that his girlfriend was being carried away by a young woman and an old lady. Something kept him from being able to reach his girlfriend to stop them from carrying her away.

    Interpretation

Each character in the dream can represent a part of the dreamer’s mind. Women tend to go with the dreamers emotions. Young attractive women typically represent beautiful emotions.

An old lady is typically thought of as being a Crone which is an archetype of wisdom in old age and experience. An archetype is a pattern of thought that is repetitive throughout human consciousness. This dream is about how the dreamer’s emotions could get carried away.

He seemingly fears losing a lover after he has invested all of his emotions in her. His greatest fear probably is that this would happen and there was nothing he could do about it. It sounds like he is worried about losing the love of his life.

What does going to the bathroom and other people taking advantage of you in a dream mean?

    :an we abuse your campsite?
    Can we abuse your campsite?

Dream 349: Get Rid of this stuff now!

A woman dreamed that she was camping. Some people asked her if they could use her restroom. She said “Sure.”

She went to walk her dog. When she came back, the people’s kids were jumping all over inside the camper. Some more older people appeared. The campsite was overrun with about thirty people.

She noticed that her wallet was missing. She then noticed a woman going through the wallet. The dreamer asked for it back, and took down the license plate number of the van they were driving.

They begged her not to report them. She told them that she was going to report them to the police. The itinerant mob fled.

    Interpretation

The setting of this dream indicated that it was going to be about how the dreamer naturally operates because she was camping in the great outdoors. At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in the dream is a different part of the dreamer’s personality.

When you go to the bathroom in a dream, you are getting rid of something that you no longer need, that you do not need to carry, and that will actually harm you if you keep it. I think the dream was urging her to not let people take advantage of her. The dream ended with her deciding that there were going to be consequences if she allowed others to take advantage of her.

The dreamer told me that the interpretation felt right. She said that she was prone to give too much without receiving from others. She needed to insist that others reciprocate her favors.

    A Method to the Madness
    A Method to the Madness

Carl Jung was a dream interpreter Grandmaster. He originally was a follower of Freud. They broke away from each other because of different views on the subconscious.

Freud essentially looked at a client at where they were now and tried to predict what happened in the past to make them what they are now. Jung took an opposite point of view. He took the person from how they presented now to predict how the person might fare in the future, i.e., what that would lead to in their lives.

Carl Jung - Imaging figures of light

In Freudian psychology you end up looking at peoples past experiences which are valuable, but certainly are not the whole story. People are usually more interested in what’s going to happen in the future. Jung developed dream interpretation to an art form which is explainable and understandable but very complex.

My book, Dreams: Guide to the Soul is based on thirty years of dream interpretation and has Jungian undertones. It is understandable by the lay person, and also will be appreciated by the professional. It is available at http://www.drstevenfox.com

What does flying, robots, babies and your mom criticizing you in a dream mean?

    Robots, Flying and Kids

Dream 334: I’m Ready to Fly (almost)

A career woman dreamed that she was flying like superwoman. A flying robot was flying after her trying to catch her, which he never did. It was like having to escape from the flying robot helped her to learn to fly better.

She saw a festival and went down to feast before returning to flying. She could hear her mother saying that she should go home and take care of her babies instead of partying and flying around. The dreamer felt resentment that she had to stop flying to take care of her babies (the dreamer had no children in real life.)

    Interpretation

Flying implies that the dreamer is feeling personally powerful and able to accomplish many goals. A robot is not human in a mechanical repetitive rote memory way that is boring. A baby represents new projects in the dreamer’s life or new parts of herself that she wants to develop.

Each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s mind which is the first rule in my book Dreams: Guide to the Soul. Her mother in the dream is the image of her mother she introjected into her subconscious as a child. The mother introject is often the basis of the dreamer’s emotions. In this case, the mother introject is functioning primarily to make her feel guilty for not living up to her responsibilities.

Given the above, I have several thoughts: (1) The dreamer felt held down and wanted to fly, (2) Her attempts to avoid being robotic-like (she is flying away from a pursuing robot) encouraged her to fly (to boldly strike out in new directions), (3) She felt guilty about festivaling/feasting too much (her mother introject did not approve) and (4) She probably feel held down by new projects (the dream is emphasizing new babies which are usually new projects or developing new parts of herself, i.e., “it’s your baby.”)

The dreamer later told me that “feeling held down is exactly how I feel, it is a good representation of how I feel….I just feel weighted down by all these things, even new projects..and I have little to no energy to make myself become not weighted down……the way I interpreted my dream was, I have to take care of some projects before i learn, or am finally able to fly.”

What does being killed like an animal by redcoats mean in a dream?

    Tink, right between the eyes
    Tink, right between the eyes

Dream 332: The snooty and prudish tried to kill my instincts but I’m hard-headed enough to resist

A 49-year-old woman dreamed that she was an animal running from British redcoats in an oak forest near a town. They were chasing her on horses. Then two men got off their horses as she slid down a slope.

She turned and looked at a redcoat who fired a shot at her. He shot her right between the eyes. She heard a ‘tink’ noise like metal hitting metal.

    Interpretation

The British are known to be very socially proper people. Based on the British troops, the idea at the first level of dream interpretation would be something like the very socially proper part of her personality wanted to get rid of or “kill” an instinctive part of her personality. Animals in dreams represent the dreamer’s instincts. She later reported that she felt like a hunted animal in the dream.

If we go to the second or interpersonal level, which tends to be less accurate, I wondered if some aggressively prudish (British soldiers) people were disapproving of her. She reported that recently she was found to be a descendant of some noble lineage. She found there to be a rich snooty attitude amongst the relatives she met that was foreign to her.

She considered herself to be a country girl with solid values that were resistant to being changed by others snobbish or prudish attitudes. The dream was saying that the noblesse oblige attitude hit her instincts (the hunted animal) like a shot between the eyes, a shot in the brain. Fortunately, the “tink” noise sounded like the bullet hit metal, i.e., she was hard-headed enough not to let the condescending upper class attitude affect her.

What does floating mean in a dream?

    Walking in the https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OZb5duiufLI
    Walking in the air https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OZb5duiufLI

    Dream 329: Floating High

A 50 something man described having a dream that he always remembered even years later. When he was an elementary school boy, he dreamed repeatedly that he was floating above trees. From the sky,he viewed his friend and himself walking through the neighborhood on the sidewalk. He felt like he was actually floating in reality.

    Interpretation

Dreaming that you’re floating is not as powerful as flying, but it is significant. The fact that it was a recurrent dream, a dream that occurs repeatedly, emphasizes that it was an important or “big” dream. Floating usually means that the dreamer felt content with the situation, that he was literally “floating on air” at that time.

Trees are a primary symbol of integration which means the dreamer felt pretty together personally back then. Having a friend in a dream is many times a dreams way of doubling the dreamer. The dream was doubling down on the importance of his feelings in the dream.

Alternative explanations of the dream involve it being a lucid dream or an out-of-body experience. These explanations are very speculative; however, it would explain the huge impact these dreams had on him. Decades later, he could remember this dream like it happened yesterday.

What do spiders mean in a dream?

    tmp_15476-waiting_spider_web-1915866529

    Dream 320: The Tangled Web

Spiders weave intricate webs which are traps to catch their prey. Thus, they are associated with manipulation. Someone may have a complex plan to ensnare the dreamer into a compromised situation in their life which serves the manipulator. Conversely, the dreamer may be the manipulator and the dream may be commenting on complicated plans that the dreamer has.

Insects are not mammals and have no empathy. They represent pure action and precise strategic moves without emotion. They treat everything outside themselves, including people, as objects to be used for their own advantage.

The meaning has taken a different turn in some cases in this day and age. The dream may be commenting on the dreamers involvement with the Internet which is frequently called the “web.” This is not that common and is confined mostly to people that are extremely technology astute or involved with modern Internet applications.

There’s usually a nefarious meaning associated with catching someone in a web. This is rooted in ancient history such as in the saying, “What a tangled web we weave when we first start to deceive.”

When the dreamer is the manipulator, there is the chance that the planned complicated deception could backfire on the dreamer. A manipulative liar has to have a good memory of the path of the many deceptions involved in trapping another person. The manipulator or spider wants to make sure that it can negotiate its own weaved intricate web. It makes sense that a manipulative liar is seen as a repugnant spider.

So dreaming of spiders often involves situations in the dreamer’s life where the dreamer is either being manipulated or is the manipulator. In my experience, it is more often associated with the dreamer being concerned about being manipulated. I believe this is because dreams main goal is the best interests of the dreamer.

I have decided to add to my knowledge of dreams by looking at some Eastern works such as The Astral Plane: Its Scenery, Inhabitants, and Phenomena. I just do not know enough about them. I surmise that they may be another form of dream state, but with the amazing effects of consciousness, may be something more.

Yoga has always been a point of interest to me since I noticed that my multiple sclerosis responded best to this form of exercise. The MS is thankfully in full remission now. I plan to read books like Yoga and Dreams and Dream Yoga to connect my love of dreams with yoga and Eastern concepts.

Tibetan Buddhists also do some amazing things with dreams. I am hoping that adding a more solid knowledge of these practices will lead to epiphanies of insight. For example, although they do not conceptualize it this way, to me it sounds like the Buddhists sometimes actually try to talk to the archetypes in their dreams. Interesting…

You can see my journey into dreams and healing from MS while learning a method of dream interpretation in my book Dreams: Guide to the Soul at http://www.drstevenfox.com

Dream Condensation and the Many Different Levels of Dreams

The Many Different Levels of Dreams
The Many Different Levels of Dreams

    Dream Information 299:
    Dreams have many levels:

    (1) The intrapsychic level involves the psychodynamic processes within the person themselves. At this first level, each person or creature in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s psyche. Females signal the dreamer’s emotions, while males are associated with behavior. One can literally think of the characters/creatures/animals in a dream representing different parts of the dreamer’s psyche–either an emotional (female) or an action (male) part of the psyche.

This is at once the most difficult and most fruitful level of dream interpretation. One has to discipline oneself to see this level because the natural human tendency is to go to the second and interpersonal level of dream interpretation. At this first level, it is hard to see each character in the dream as part of the dreamer because one enters an endless hall of mirrors. For example, at the first level, the dreamer’s wife in the dream typically represents the emotional part of the dreamer’s mind that deals with his wife. (to be continued)

What do snakes in a dream mean?

Some Snakes and Some Changes Are Beautiful
Some Snakes and Some Changes Are Beautiful

    Dream answer 297

Snakes usually indicate massive change of an emotional, spiritual, physical, financial or relationship nature is taking place. This is because snakes are one of the few animals to completely shed their skin. So dreams use change as a metaphor for significant change in your life. The major change snakes reflect means that these dreams are often what Carl Jung called "big dreams."

Also, a snake is a creature and creatures are associated with instinct. So it is usually essential change that is taking place. The number of snakes and/or the size of the snakes usually indicates how big the change is.

The behavior of the snake often indicates what kind of change is occurring. If the snake is aggressive and biting you, it is aggressive change that is occurring. If you are being bitten, but not being harmed, the dream is usually indicating that you were going through stressful change but that it will not harm you in the long run, etc.

Some snakes take on a peaceful and almost beautifully sacred appearance. A dreamer I had in therapy dreamt of a golden snake who would look back at her as if expecting her to follow him out of the house where she was living. She was living with a man that was emotionally cruel to her. The snake was urging the change of leaving that situation.

On the other hand, snakes can be deceptive especially if the dream is making a play upon the words “snake in the grass.” One might want to remember that the snake in the garden of Paradise did not give good advice to Adam and Eve. This is another way of saying some changes are good and some changes are harmful.

    The Wounded Healer

Much of Life Is a Healing Process
Much of Life Is a Healing Process

Dream 295:An adult man dreamed that he was a white healer. He had healing balls of energy that appeared in his hands which he could use to heal others. When he touched the patient, the energy was transmuted to the healed in a dazzling display of spiritual/physical power. He then dreamed that he healed himself.

    Interpretation

The Wounded Healer is a major archetype, a pattern of thought that recurs in many people’s dreams throughout the ages. White is the most spiritual color . Circular and round objects often represent the soul since they have no beginning and no end.

The dream is all about healing. The dream implies that by healing others, the dreamer will heal himself; and by healing himself, the dreamer will heal others. This model is essentially the root of self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, i.e., someone who had previous experience being wounded like you were was more likely to be empathic and knowledgable.

What Does a Fox Mean in Dreams?

    A White Spiritual Fox
    A White Spiritual Fox

Dream Image 294: I thought I would explain what my namesake means in a dream. First off, animals represent our instinctive drives. A fox is a wily cunning strategist who thinks outside the box. As such, native indigenous people often associated the Fox with the trickster archetype.

The trickster is a major archetype or pattern of thought in dreams. He typically makes impossible situations work by going outside what has been officially authorized. He bends the formal rules to satisfy impossible sometimes dictatorial expectations, i.e., he/she is tricky.

He is a clever sharp intelligent playful and flexible artisan who designs ways to get around onerous rules. The Fox frequently defies historic conventions for the good of humanity. There is a charming Apache legend that the Fox was responsible for bringing fire to people.

In the story, the Fox breaks the rules of the universe by somehow stealing fire from fireflies. Again, one would think that such a feat was impossible, but the trickster fox somehow makes it happen. As a punishment for his theft, the Fox was never allowed to use fire for himself. His deed ended up helping mankind but consigned the benefactor thief to the cold.

One never wants to forget the importance of slang or common meanings in dreams. It should also be remembered that “a fox” can represent an attractive woman/man. To be called “a fox” is to be called an intelligent tricky and good-looking beneficial manipulator.

The color white is the most spiritual color there is. A white fox is a spiritual master cleverly working within, but not strictly according to, the laws of the universe. I rather like my namesake.

    The Whole Enchilada

    The Hot Enchilada
There Are Many Ways To Be Hot

Dream 293:A 32-year-old woman dreamt that she was an enchilada in a pan with other enchiladas on both sides of her. She was suffocatingly hot. She was so hot that she actually woke up to find her cat and her husband on each side of her.

    Interpretation

This dream was true on both the physical and emotional levels of dream interpretation. She woke up because she was physically hot as the heat was turned up in her house and she was between the bodies of her cat and husband. Many people interpreting dreams would stop with the physical interpretation. That is most often a mistake.

While the physical interpretation is certainly true, the emotional interpretation of this dream was also accurate. She was a very nurturing person to her family which is why she appears as food in the dream. Food is psychological nurture in dreams. She admitted that she was “hot” in the sense that her husband had not had sex with her for awhile.

In this case the word “hot” took on multiple meanings. She was “hot” in the sense that she was good-looking. She was “hot” because she had not had sex for a while. Finally her anger toward her husband was a “hot” emotion. To disregard the psychological meaning of this dream would have missed a lot.

    Dream Condensation

Man Is A Biopsychospiritual Being Man Is A Biopsychospiritual Being

    Dream Explanation 292:

There are many levels to dreams which include physical, psychological, and spiritual. At the physical level, it is vitality. At the psychological level, it is emotion. At the spiritual level, it is the energy of the universe.

In most dreams, all levels are true and when this happens we call it dream condensation. Dreams always use the most efficient means of communicating the most information possible which is what condensation is. Having a “big dream” is a gift that keeps on giving.

    Lightning Integration

    She Sees the Light(ning)
    She Sees the Light(ning)

Dream 290: A woman in her twenties dreamed that she was in a broken run down apartment. She was with loved ones who were insanely content with the condition of the building. The dreamer wondered why they were so happy. They replied that they were satisfied and intended to stay.

Suddenly, the walls began crumbling, the ceilings fell in and the doors were in flames. She then had a vision of Zeus and saw a storm approaching. She somehow felt that she chose lightning which struck a tree in her yard which burst into flames. The tree fell toward the dreamer and crashed through her window.

The dreamer was unscathed, but ran out of the house because she was full of fear that she and loved ones would be hurt. As she ran outside, there was a party going on with neighbors and loved ones. It was a celebration with food and friends. She woke up craving a Pepsi.

    Interpretation

Each character represents a part of the dreamer’s mind. A house or apartment represents the framework out of which the dreamer lives. The dream starts out by commenting that the dreamer is entirely too happy with her life when there are obvious flaws and cracks in it.

Fire represents change because fire transforms matter into energy. Lightning is instantaneous and dramatic change. That Zeus appears in the dream indicates that the tumultuous change was sanctioned by the gods.

The dream went on to say that a storm was developing in the dreamer’s life. A tree is a major symbol of integration as its roots go deep beneath visible reality (subconscious), it is present on the surface (conscious), and it opens to the sky (which often has spiritual implications). The storm in her life was disturbing or crashing into her life so that instantaneous change (lightning) was required.

Windows breaking in a dream typically means that the emotional impact has reached the dreamer, i.e., the dreamer now not only sees what is happening, but feels what is happening. The dreamer was afraid that the change would hurt her; however, the appearance of food and friends was meant to assure her that the change was or will be psychologically and socially nurturing. The dream ends by telling her to get with it because she is a part of the Pepsi generation.

    The Right and Left Stairways

    stairs

Dreams 289: A man in his early forties dreamed that he was talking to some girls when he was in high school in New York. It was very casual and relaxed conversation in a restaurant located at the top of a mansion. When he left, he found himself at the top of stairs on a landing where there was a stairway to his right and there was a stairway to his left.

He went down the left stairway and knew somehow that he had to use a phone. He then went down the right stairway and found a woman that looked like his wife. She was pretty and looked like his wife. He thought she looked depressed as she was leaning forward on her arms with her forearms resting on the table. He then saw the girls he was talking to earlier pass by in the distance.

    Interpretation

This dream is all about communication with his wife. Stairs invariably represent sex because it is a rhthymic activity that ends in a climax. The left tends to be associated in ancient India with subconscious emotions, while the right usually represents conscious activity. The dream is emphasizing the importance of communication in their sex life.

Restaurants are where people are physically and psychologically nourished. The dream is saying that there was something about the way he communicated with those girls in New York that would be useful in his marriage, that there was something about that type of communication that would be especially nourishing in his marriage.

Movement in this dream is down stairways because their sex life was a “downer.” Movement down the left involves emotion. A phone is at the bottom of this stairway to emphasize the importance of communication.

The right is associated with conscious action. In this case, his depressed wife at the bottom of these stairs represented disappointment over the lack of sexual action, intimacy, in his marriage. The dream ends by recommending interaction with his wife like he had with the New York girls that pass in the distance.

Appearance of the Sacred Heroic Masculine

tmp_19585-White Knight-1399391585 To Serve and Protect

    Dream 288
A man in his forties dreamed repeatedly that he was visited by a white robed faceless spirit. This spirited man gave the dreamer all elements of a knights armor. He was given a knights helmet, breastplate, body armor, sword, etc.

This was a recurring dream where he found himself fighting evil night after night in his protective knights armor. He felt powerful and strong. He felt the dream was spiritually significant.

    Interpretation
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s mind or psyche. Men are usually associated more with action parts of the mind. Women usually represent more emotional parts of the psyche.

Repetitive or recurrent dreams are almost always big dreams as Carl Jung believed that some dreams meant more than others. This was especially likely to be the case with recurrent dreams. Usually, the recurrent dream is returning to a repeated theme to continue to try to resolve a repetitive problem.

This dreamer was visited by his own spirit of the heroic masculine. The heroic masculine is the most positive aspect of masculinity. It is a major archetype ingrained in the collective subconscious of mankind.

The heroic masculine motto is “to serve and protect.” This is a very spiritual dream. White is the most spiritual color.

The fact that the heroic masculine was faceless and the evil he was fighting was vague indicated that there are many aspects of himself that he is not familiar with. The dream was recurring over the course of a month as his subconscious wanted him to get to know both the positive and shadow parts of his subconscious. The dream used knights armor to emphasize that chivalry of the heroic masculine. The dream use the armor to emphasize that it was mainly about how he protected himself so that he could protect and help others.

This dream was saying that he would be protected when he uses his heroic masculine to protect himself and others from evil. This dream was saying that the dreamer had developed the positive aspects of masculinity to the point where he was a spiritual warrior. The appearance of this strong of a form of the heroic masculine indicates that he was ready to take major positive action for himself and loved ones.

    Commitment

    A Commitment Is Forever
    A Commitment Is Forever
Dream 287: A 47-year-old man dreamed that he and his wife were on a beach. They took their wedding rings off and threw them into a pleasantly rising wave in the ocean. They felt safe and relaxed.

    Interpretation

A circle is the best symbol we have for the soul because it has no beginning and it has no end. A ring is circular and is worn on your finger virtually permanently. A wedding in a dream represents the integration of male and female aspects of the dreamer as it stands for a man and woman forming a committed relationship.

Water is almost always emotion. The ocean is the best symbol for subconscious emotion that there is. The dream indicated that their emotions were rising. What the dream is saying by their throwing their rings into a rising tide is that their commitment to one another was increasing and creating a new and pleasant wave of emotion. Their commitment to one another created a new wave of lasting love.

What Does Losing a Tooth in a Dream Mean?

    tmp_17755-dotvital.com-woman-teeth-951622198

    It’s Like Losing Something Personal

What does losing a tooth in a dream mean?

The main commonality I have found in dreams of losing a tooth is that the dreamer lost something recently of personal value. It can be a possession, relationship, job, reputation, or even a personal quality such as “losing your bite” with people. It is usually a personal loss that you do not like, but is something you can deal with similar to how you feel when you lose a tooth.

The Joy of the Divine Child

    Our Hopes and Dreams
    Our Hopes and Dreams

Dream 286: A Woman in her twenties had a recurrent dream that she woke up in a room with a man sleeping next to her. A noise caught her attention. She leaned over the man to see a little girl playing on the floor.

She woke the man up who picked up the little girl. The little girl had been playing with books. She looked at her book while sitting on the man’s lap. The little girl was a beautiful child that had hair so soft the dreamer could not resist touching her hair.

The dreamer asked the man who the beautiful little girl was. He had an amazing smile on his face as he said to the dreamer that the little girl was hers. As he handed the toddler to the dreamer, the child wrapped her arms around the dreamer’s neck.

The dreamer then felt that she knew exactly who the little girl was. She knew now with conviction that the little girl was hers. She felt joyously elated.

    Interpretation

The dreamer was visited by her Divine Child archetype. The Divine Child is usually a little girl often with blonde hair and blue eyes (not necessarily) between the ages of 3 and 10 years old. She represented the dreamer’s hopes and dreams for the future.

At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in a dream represents part of the dreamer’s mind. Men typically go with actions; women usually go more with emotions. This is not absolutely so, but it is usually the case.

Thus, the man in the dream and the child together represent her mature actions energized by her hopes and dreams, the Divine Child archetype. The thought is that she recently decided on actions that will further her hopes and dreams. The inclusion of books suggest a thoughtful, intelligent or academic decision might be part of the scenario. The dreamer is to be congratulated.

Only the dreamer knows enough of the details of her life to be able to apply this interpretation to her interpersonal life. The man in the dream is significant in a positive way. He is the heroic masculine archetype. His appearance is often good news because it means the dreamer is ready to take positive action in life. His motto is “to serve and protect.”

It is no wonder that this dream made the dreamer feel joyous. Usually a dreamer at this stage begins to know what they want and are ready to take steps to actualize their life. The fact that this was a recurrent dream means that this dream is a “big dream.”

Recurrent dreams are big dreams that mean more than other dreams. That is because the dream is addressing repetitive issues in the dreamer’s life. Recurrent dreams make repeated attempts to get the message to the dreamer until the dreamer “gets it.”

    My Attempt to Change Died

    Dream 280: Change Died
    baby-found-alive-at-chinese-funeral-home-2-days-after-being-pronounced-dead
A 48-year-old woman dreamed that she bought the house of her son’s mother-in-law. When she arrived at this house, there was a dead baby in a casket with large funeral candles on each side of the casket.

    Interpretation

This woman was hyper-critical of her son. His mother-in-law had a troubled background similar to his mother’s personal history. The mother-in-law was, nevertheless, relatively calm, more diplomatic, and less critical than the dreamer.
A house can represent the dreamer because it is the framework out of which one lives. That the dreamer bought the house indicates that the dreamer is aspiring to be a different person, to be more like her son’s mother-in-law. The deceased baby is not good news.

Each character in a dream represents a part of the dreamer’s personality at the first level of dream interpretation. A baby represents a new part of the personality or psyche that the dreamer tried to develop. So a baby represents personal growth on the part of the dreamer.

That the baby is dead signals that her attempt to be different, to be more like the calmer mother-in-law, failed. That it was an attempt to change was highlighted by the funeral candles. Candles imply fire, and fire represents change because fire changes matter into energy.

It is perfect that they were funeral candles. Funeral candles are typically unlit. The unlit candles emphasized that no change had occurred. That it is a funeral scene gives some hope because the dreamer saw her lack of change as a real loss. The dreamer is in mourning which suggests that being more like the mother-in-law personality-wise was something that the dreamer really wanted.

    Dream 269: Saving Face

    Send in the clowns
    Send in the clowns

    Dream 269:

A 32-year-old woman dreamed of an image of her face with a huge number of stitches which covered her face almost like a mask.

    Interpretation
Her job was in security for a federal building. She had to thoroughly search each person who entered the building. It often was necessary to be assertive and even abrupt with difficult people.

In dreams, a mask is it defense that hides who you really are. She thought that she had to put on a stern façade which was not like her real personality. The image in this dream brings to mind the saying of “saving face.” She thought that to heal herself she would have to quit the job because it was covering who she really was.

She disliked the scars which the job forced on her personality. She felt the job was ruining the image she had of herself. Consciously, she felt the job was good paying and have good benefits; however, she knew that her subconscious would eventually insist she leave the job.

    Flipper or Shamu?

and emotionally sensitive tore like intelligence and emotionally sensitive to

Dolphins have amazing right hemisphere-like intelligence and are emotionally sensitive too. Some scientists have suggested that they are like “humans of the sea” and should be treated special. Other fans simply call them “angels of the sea.”

In any case, it is almost always good news when they show up in dreams. First of all, the ocean is the biggest and best symbol of subconscious emotion that we have. Having large mammals or sea creatures in dreams about the ocean indicates that you have a lot of instinctive energy in your subconscious or unconscious.

Dolphins are usually more of a playful and  dynamic energy. This contrasts with sharks and killer whales. If the latter show up, it shows subconscious energy, but it is more of a shadow or aggressive energy.

You want to know what types of energies are operating in your subconscious. I once knew someone who knew what kind of general attitude she had towards life by the presence of either killer whales or dolphins in her dreams. It turns out that it’s usually better to have Flipper the dolphin in your dreams than it is to have Shamu the killer whale show up.

What does dying in a dream mean?

Stop with the negative waves, man
Stop with the negative waves, man
    Dream 268:Fighting the Zombies

A man dreamed that he died because he was attacked by zombies. His spirit rose above the zombies but he was still able to be in the physical world. He killed one zombie by cutting his throat with garden shears.

A random zombie head somehow moving toward him bit him in the leg. He cut the zombie head in half.

Interpretation: Zombies are almost always depression. Zombies are the “living dead” which is the way major depression can feel. At the first level of dream interpretation, each character represents a part of the dreamer’s psyche or mind. So the dream is announcing that this dream will be about how he handles his depression.

Death in a dream typically means that the dreamer has to change in a major way. In other words, there is a part of the mind that needs to be shelved or “die.” The dream is saying that his new self (his spirit) needs to rise above his depression (the zombies).

The first zombie he kills (the first factor he needs to change) is negative or depressing speech. We know this because speech emanates from the throat. It is interesting that he uses garden shears.

Garden shears get rid of growth (plants). The dream is dramatically saying in regard to his negative speech, that he needs to “cut it out.”

The second zombie is intellectuallization. The dream is saying that he literally is too much in his head. The dream wants him to cut his depressive thinking at least by half.

    Striking Dreamlike Image

    Dreamlike image 265:

Why is this image of lightning striking a tree so impressive? It is because of the meaning of the different elements of the image in dreams or in our subconscious. Lightning is electric fire.

Fire subconsciously is registered as change because fire changes matter into energy. Lightning is dramatic fire or fire on steroids. Lightning is dramatic change that occurs instantly.

Trees unconsciously are seen by the mind as an image of integration since the tree opens to the sky, goes underground deeply and is here on the level with us. So a tree represents growth and integration of the three levels of the mind representing, respectively, the superego, the unconscious, and the conscious mind. It is almost always a positive sign when trees enter the dream scenery.

So a healthy tree being struck by lightning means that dramatic and instantaneous change has occurred which is integrative to the person. In other words, it is almost always good news although it is certain to stressful. The rapidity of the change is dramatic and affects the whole person and 20140731-110637-39997799these transformative changes are likely to be positive although the person going through it is likely to be disoriented trying to adjust to it. Even good change takes a person some time to adapt to it.

But Mom…I Feel a Movement in the Force

    13.-yoda-2_big

Dream 264: An eight year old boy dreamt that Yoda, the wise little old man alien Buddha philosopher from the movie Star Wars, was throwing all personal care items, like soap, toothpaste shampoo, etc., from the top of his mother’s bureau onto her bedroom floor.
Interpretation: He objected strenuously to his mother insisting that he regularly brush his teeth, wash his hands, comb his hair, take showers, etc. He was using a very creative version of the archetype of the wise old man to deliver a message. An archetype is a pattern of thought handed down through the generations by human consciousness.
Archetypes are propelled in culture and can be up to twenty to forty percent of the dream’s content. Jung thought we each had a personal subconscious which was connected to an overriding collective unconscious. This collective unconscious was created by culture and sustained and passed on by human consciousness.
Children most often have dreams of desire or want which are dreams of the way they wished life actually was. This creative child had the desire that wise Yoda would talk some sense to his mother. Moreover, the wise Yoda should cast away the personal care items so that his mother could finally see that her son’s protests about maintaining personal hygiene were correct.
The wisdom of the universe was dramatically expressing the child’s wish that he be freed from brushing, washing and cleaning. His dream desired that his mother finally see the prudence of his cleanliness protests. In his dreams, he felt that he did not need no stinking toothbrush. Further, he had Luke Skywalker’s advisor prove his point of view.

    Like a Rhinestone Rooster

    rhinestone rooster

Dream 261: A 28-year-old woman dreamed that she and other airport security were holding back a crowd of faceless people who were coming through the walls of a terminal liquor bar. She then envisioned the image of a rooster arrayed with sparkling jewelry and rhinestones. When she paid rapt attention to it, the rooster died.

Interpretation: She was an airport policewoman. She was bored with her job. She had a few drinks each day after work.

Each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s psyche at the first level. Faceless people usually represent parts of the mind that the dreamer does not know. Her superego or conscience is worried that her drinking to reduce her boredom may be unleashing more unruly parts of her mind.

The message of the rhinestone rooster is clear. The rooster is over-adorned to the point of being ridiculous. The dream is dramatically saying “Don’t get too cocky or it could be the end of you.”

She recently felt conflicted because her supervisor praised her work while she internally felt bored. She felt bored, but the dream may be warning her to not go along with her instinct (the animal instinct, the rooster) to show off (which may be the attitude of her subconscious toward her considering quitting her job). This latter view is speculative because it is at the second or interpersonal level of dream interpretation where accuracy drops because only the dreamer has full knowledge of details at the second level.

    My Created Family Died

    drugs_kill_dreams_sticker

Dream 259: An eighteen-year-old male dreamed that he was in a house with a family. They all went upstairs to find the body of a dead young man underneath a bed. Everyone in the family was very upset.

Interpretation: He recently found out that his best friend moved away and no longer had contact with the dreamer because he was addicted to crack cocaine. The dreamer was close to his friend’s family who said they considered him to be part of the family. The subconscious treats the loss of a close friendship as equal to death.

The above is dream interpretation at the second or interpersonal level. The interpreter has to know what is going on in the dreamer’s life at this level. At the first level, each character in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s psyche or mind. This is both usually more difficult and often more rewarding than the interpersonal level which is more surface circumstances than unconscious processes.

At the first level of dream interpretation, the family represented  the various parts of his mind that wanted membership in his best friend’s family. The young man’s dead body symbolized his hope that he would actually be a part of a created loving family was dead. He was very upset by his friend’s addiction. When, as in this case, both levels of dream interpretation are true, we say that dream condensation occurred.

Incidentally, alcohol decreases dreams and marijuana virtually eliminates dreams.

owning-a-dogDream 255: A 28-year-old woman dreamt that her abusive boyfriend hit her dog over the head with a shovel. The dog was dead. He was burying the dog. She wanted to stop the burial because the dog might still be alive.

Interpretation– Each person and animal in a dream represents part of the person’s mind. Animals typically represent basic instincts. Dogs in particular usually represent internal tendencies to be loyal and protective. The dream was saying that her experience with her abusive boyfriend had damaged her ability to feel protected and loyal towards men. That the dog might still be alive indicated that her trust of men was damaged, but that she might be able to heal from this traumatic experience.

Dream 243: Follow the Golden Serpent

Snakes Signal Transformation Snakes Signal Transformation

A 34-year-old woman dreamt that she was in the house where she previously was married. There was a reunion of the men she had known and dated in her life. She remembered that she was supposed to take koolaid out to the yard for the men that had been in her life previously.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a small black snake dart into the house. She then saw herself in the kitchen preparing a meal. All of the sudden she saw a golden snake raise its hooded head towards her.

The serpent went to the front door and then turned toward her. The cobra snake looked directly at her. It seemed to smile as if urging her to follow the serpent out of the house.

    Dream 243–Interpretation

A house can represent the dreamer because it is the framework of which she lives. The house in this dream was the house where she was married to an extremely abusive man. She had a history of being in abusive relationships.

The koolaid in the dream is liquid and liquids tend to be emotion in dreams. The dream was literally saying that she “drank the koolaid”and regarding reality as presented to her by abusive men. The black snake darting into the house represented negative change.

Snakes are one of the few animals to completely shed their skin and so represent transformation or change. That the snake was black and sneaky indicated that the changes that occurred within this marriage (the house where she lived when married to the abuser) were negative as black tends to go with depressed or negative emotions. The golden snake is an entirely different story.

The golden snake as presented in the dream is almost majestic in his actions and seems beneficial. Gold or yellow goes with the solar plexus chakra which is strongly related to self-esteem. That she was in the kitchen preparing a meal indicated that she needed to find new ways to nurture herself.

Food in a dream is psychological nurture and the kitchen is a place of creativity. She needed to follow her golden snake into the future to keep her self-esteem. An animal or snake is instinct, and the dream is going out of its way to show that it is her instincts that are telling her to get out of the relationship

    Crackerjack Medal

Dream 242: That Medal Isn’t Worth Much

A 59-year-old man dreamt that he was in an auditorium at an awards ceremony. The setting was a combination of his high school and work place auditorium. He dreamt that he received a large Nazi medal in recognition of his years of work. After receiving the metal, as he made his way back to his auditorium seat, the medal shrank in size and eventually became a very small tin
badge that looked like it came out of a cracker jack box.

    Dream 242–Interpretationtmp_images(32)-1230855829

The setting of the dream often indicates what area of the person’s life the dream is going to discuss. High schools are often used by the dream to mean that it is a learning situation for your “higher self.” He was forced to retire from a high level executive job because of a disability. He often had nightmares about having to quit work. The dream was saying that the recognition that he received from his workplace (the medal) was dubious and was no longer of value to him so that he should take his seat with the general population (in the auditorium).

    Drugs Be Gone

    tmp_images(31)-2065688136Cast the Glass

In a nonpsychotic person, the subconscious tries to protect the person and even gives advice during dreams. This appears to especially be the case with drugs. I have never seen a situation where the dream showed approval for hard drug abuse.

A 28-year-old woman dreamed that she was spitting out shards of glass. Crystal meth is sometimes called “glass.”  She recently was trying to detox herself from crystal meth. Spit is a form of water. Water almost always represents emotion.

The act of spitting indicates that the person needs to expel something from the body. The dream was advising her to throw crystal meth out of her body. The dream especially emphasized the negative effect crystal meth was having on her emotions.
