The Dream Community in Communion with the Collective Subconscious

“Formica Coriandolo

Dream Specialist and Trainer

Formica Coriandolo has been a lucid dreamer with a passion for the dream realm since she was a child. At the age of 21 she moved to Damanhur – Federation of Spiritual Communities – in Italy, where she deepened her natural talent in lucid dreaming under the tutelage of Damanhur’s spiritual founder, Falco Tarassaco, from whom she learned how to travel through various dimensions of the dream realm.
An artist in the fields of sculpture, painting, art glass and music, she has created many of the renowned works of art in the Temples of Humankind and been the composer of many of the primary Damanhurian lyrics, inspired by the mythology of the community. Dreams and art have intertwined in her life: from her personal experience as a self-taught artist she founded and managed a successful seminar course called “Discover Your Inner Talent,” as well as “The Path of the Dreams.” Her dream course has inspired students globally, through her transmission of her experience and knowledge in an accessible and engaging way. ”

It is interesting how this community tries to access the collective unconscious as a community–they literally try to make the dreams come true. Oh, that we could live in such a world!

What does it mean when a deceased relative hugs you in a dream?

tmp_15888-889fe7e2920d5ee04c826c4df4b07ebe14606110

Dream Vision 402: Hang in There Baby

I dreamed hat my deceased brother-in-law hugged me as i was leaving the hospital after visiting my wife who was a patient there.

Interpretation

My wife was having a number of medical difficulties. She was hospitalized right before I had this dream. What was different about this dream was the feeling of touch. I had the feeling that I actually was physically hugged by him.

The deceased brother-in-law in the dream was a doctor in real life who was totally loved by his wife, family of eight children, and the world. He was a strong and empathetic healer. He gave encouragement and clear direction to all that knew him.

One major type of dream is what I call a vision dream. People typically report that they feel is more of a vision than a dream. I could vividly see him and had the sensation of being physically hugged.

What sets these dreams apart is the sensation part of it. The vision or seeing of the person seems more vivid. The sense of touch is usually filled which does not occur in many dreams actually.

Sometimes people indicate they can even smell the familiar person. The vivid image of him in extraordinary detail and the physical feeling of touch were in this dream. I usually do not have dreams like this.

It is memorable the few times they do happen. It always seems to be significant to what is happening in the outside world or in reality. On the other hand, what is the ultimate reality?

Theoretical physicists tell me that there are at least 10 dimensions plus time. We see only three of them. They say that it is all happening here right now . I believe that leaves a lot of room for spiritual interpretation of visions like this one.

Dreams: Nonfiction of the Subconscious

susbconcious

An insightful friend told me that dreams are “nonfiction of the subconscious.” It sounds paradoxical in a way, but it is not. Dreams most often take an unvarnished look at the way things really are in the dreamer’s life.

What we tell ourselves about life is frequently fiction. Dreams want the truth and give the dreamer truth in a mentally healthy person. Dreams most often see the underlying reality driving situations and motivating people.

Dreams often give nonfiction reality if they are interpreted correctly. Subconscious logic is different and takes considerable experience to be interpreted meaningfully. I always felt I gave adequate interpretations of dreams, but I did not really feel satisfied until after ten years experience. After twenty years of experience with clients, I felt I was giving truly beneficial interpretations.

Dreams: Guide to the Soul shows how I used thirty years of experience to develop an intuitive dream interpretation method. See http://www.drstevenfox.com

What does my fat phony Queen like mother in law in a wheelchair in a dream mean?

tmp_6796-girl-smile-wheelchair1180110502

Dream 397: Time to Get Real

A woman dreamed that her 94 year old mother-in-law who is in a wheelchair suddenly got up and started walking around very fast to show the dreamer that she actually could move and walk very well. The mother in law in real life weighed 300 pounds and was morbidly and pathologically psychologically dependent upon her son. She had difficulty walking mainly because of her weight.

The dreamer thought she was a phony and that her mother-in-law knew that she knew her mother-in-law was being phony. The mother in law for some reason had been amazingly alert and coherent lately.

My Interpretation to the Dreamer

Taking the dream at different levels, your subconscious is saying both that she is phony and that you yourself have to be phony to be able to put up with her. At a deeper level, it may be trying to reassure you that you are fine, that you are physically and psychologically healthy, in spite of her antipathy towards you.

Her being very alert is interesting and something I can never explain. Both personally and in the lives of my clients, people who are on a long downward course health wise will often have a brief intense period of emotional/cognitive clarity and physical vitality before sinking into a clasped physical and mental disrepair and even death.

I thought this mother-in-law had characteristics of the Queen archetype that Carl Jung describes– domineering, controlling, selfish, egocentric, and wanting to dominate the household situation. The dreamer confirmed most of my insights.

Catholic Church on Dreams

tmp_20084-13-interesting-facts-about-dreams-bubbles19093767

The following was written by Father Augustine and may represent the Catholic Church’s stance on dreams:

“The Nature of Dreams A dream is an illusory psychic activity, particularly of a visual nature that occurs during sleep. It is essentially a psychological phenomenon with many philosophical, religious and moral implications.

Scientific findings on dreams have shown them to involve perception, creative and reproductive imagination, association of ideas and images, memory and emotion. Thinking and reasoning may also occur in dreams but on a superficial and uncritical level (this is important in relation to the moral relevance of what one does in the midst of a dream). At times one is aware of a type of “choosing” within dreams — such as resistance to temptation; however, such “willed acts” do not stem from a free decision-making ability but rather from behavioral habits and automatic responses.

The critical powers of the mind such as reality testing and decision making are greatly impaired in dreaming, which accounts for the incoherent and chaotic nature of many dreams. In a dream the distinction between reality and imagination is totally lost or at least impaired. Dreams can be natural or supernatural.

If they are supernatural then their origin lies in God, angels or demons. Dreams can also be induced by hypnosis. What causes dreams can seldom be traced to one well defined external or internal stimulus. Rather, they are brought about my many interacting factors of a perceptual, emotional, motivational and physiological nature.

Dreaming occurs in cycles following the fluctuation of sleep stages. It appears when the dreamer emerges from the stage of deep sleep. In an average night’s sleep a person dreams from 1 to 2 hours with dreams distributed in three to five periods, lasting from 20 to 30 minutes, and each sleep period followed at intervals of about 90 minutes.

Dreams are primarily made up of visual imagery. Most of the images are black and white. The content of dreams is usually very personal and intimate, and has to do with one’s attitudes toward oneself and toward important people in one’s environment.

In terms of emotional content, dreams range from ecstatic fantasies to nightmares. There is a preponderance of unpleasant dreams caused by fear, anger or sadness. Dreams of sex and aggression are quite frequent.”

My views do not conflict with the Catholic Church; however, I do take a more expanded view of dreams which I think is acceptable to nearly every religion. I also like Buddhists’ view of reality and dreams.

What does a shopping mall, a candle, socks and money mean in a dream?

Taking Care of Business
Taking Care of Business

Dream 378: Taking Care of Business

A woman had the following dream:

“I was walking around a mall alone. I was going around and around the same shops like I was trying to find a special one but never could. Then I finally found it and it looked like a clothing and candle shop.

I went in immediately searching for a cobalt blue candle. I wanted the largest one I could find with 3 wicks. I was smelling them and the smells were vivid and I found one I wanted.

Then I was standing near the checkout and there were some long single chain necklaces. I searched thru them until I found a long gold chain with a feather charm on the end. I went to grab it but as I did some other woman grabbed it too. We debated for a bit who had it first and she let me have it.

So I went back to the checkout counter and realized I had lost my shoes. I had been wearing white socks with colorful Nike sandals. I don’t ever do that. But seemingly someone took my sandals when I had taken them off debating the necklace issue.

A guy who worked there confronted me asking where my shoes were. Then he said show me the bottom of your feet. He wanted to see if I had been walking in the grass in my socks. When I raised my foot it was covered in grey dirt not green.

Then I started talking to a guy standing in line in front of me and he was making a payment on something that the store was charging him interest on. He had a large check that he showed me was written out for $3333.”

My Interpretation

One thing I’ve found to be almost always be true is that if you have a dream about a shopping mall, the dream usually is going to be talking about how you have been mauled in a business, career, or financial sense.

Looking for a candle implies you are always trying to look for the light in a business situation and usually you are able to sniff out what is right. You have to compete with other people who may be onto the same thing, but usually you can convince others to see it your way. Looking for a candle implies you always try and look for the light in the business situation and usually are able to sniff out what is right.

You have to compete with other people who may be on to the same thing, but usually you can convince others to see it your way.

Cobalt blue usually would go with mental activity and speaking out loud according to the chakra system if I looked at the concept of blue in a broad sense.

You can usually sniff out what is good and is likely to lead to change (smelling the candles and three is the number of change as there are 3 wicks).

I like the interpretation of the golden necklace with a feather being having valuable intuitive ability that you can bet your neck on (the necklace) and that can take wing(the feather).

The debate with the woman indicates the you can usually convince others to see it your way for your own advantage.

Socks are usually protective as are sandals in getting you to where you need to go. It is interesting that these are white socks. White is the most spiritual color that there is.

The whole thing about the socks and the grass and the dirt and the Nikes I believe indicates that you are willing to do what needs to be done and do not necessarily do things just to look good.

You sometimes and probably more often are more willing to do the dirty work (the grey on the socks) than to do things for your own personal growth (the green from plants on the bottom of your socks). You focus on getting the job done and not necessarily protecting yourself excessively and are willing to make yourself vulnerable to a degree.

The final image of the guy paying off the $3333 debt he was being charged interest on is perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this dream. Money is energy in dreams. It can be money itself but it also can be energy that other people have loaned you in in this case.

The dream is emphasizing that you need to pay back the favors you’ve been given before they end up costing you too much. It could end up costing you more if people feel that you have not shown enough interest.

3 is the number of change and you have four 3’s. I believe the dream might be saying that if you change this aspect and pay off the favors early, it will lead to stability because 4 is the number of stability as there are four legs on a table, four legs on a chair, four directions, four seasons, etc.

This is a nicely done and well rounded dream about how to conduct your career/business/financial aspects of your life.

Feedback from the Dreamer

The dreamer gave me the following feedback:

“Steven-this is pretty awesome! I wanna show u how accurate. Hugely mauled over at work but also benefiting from it and competing not for the same position but to do the same work..long story and it’s incredibly draining has been for months. My intuition is always spot on especially regarding others’ intentions. I have a hard time verbalizing that and sharing my insights and hold back on speaking about it especially lately and even when asked. I always over exert myself and energy in order to ‘get the job done’ re: the dirt not green. The check for $3333 was interesting and I remember thinking he bought an engagement ring with it and was making payments. Although I did recently have a reiki session and now I’m wondering if I need to be repaying them or the universe in some way to pay it forward.”

What is the collective unconscious and how does it relate to the law of attraction?

The Law of Attraction and the Collective Unconscious (Subconscious) Collide
The Law of Attraction and the Collective Unconscious (Subconscious) Collide

Dream 374: The Law of Attraction and the Collective Unconscious Refer to the Same Thing

The collective unconscious according to Dr. Carl Jung was a sort of a master subconscious. The idea was that we each have our own individual subconscious which feeds into an overriding mass master subconscious composed of all human consciousness. That is, the collective unconscious is composed of every thought ever thought by any human in all of time.

When you put out a thought or idea into the universe, similar thoughts or energies will gravitate towards it. We do not know by what mechanism or dimension this occurs, but I believe one day the science will find out how this is happening . Just because we can not explain it now does not mean that it does not exist.

I believe once the ideas gather sufficient weight in numbers of human consciousness, they are then manifested in reality. This explains why the Law of Attraction works. This puts a great deal of responsibility on all of us in the sense that every thought that any person ever had entered the collective unconscious.

Meditating is not strictly a passive activity because the thoughts generated could affect the collective subconscious. Buddhists have known for millennia that meditation can change the world.

Any thought can potentially affect the world. When you meditate, it is not just a passive activity, you are actively influencing the collective subconscious of people everywhere. Using this frame of reference, dreams, dream images, and dream ideas may sometimes be the collective unconscious communicating with you through dreams.

What do ghosts mean in a dream?

Ghost on Stairway

Dream Question 360:

At the first level of dream interpretation, each ghost could be parts of our mind/psyche/personality. Ghosts are dead people. They are an unseen presence or influence.

It could be a part that is not the same that it once was, i.e., that part of the person is now a “ghost of its (former) Self.” It’s just not the way it used to be. It is not the same as it once was.

That part of the person just is not happening anymore–the spirit may be strong but the necessities to pull it off, the real flesh, are no longer there.

It could represent the person being too ethereal and high spirited focusing on the higher Self. They may not be paying enough attention to day-to-day grounded concerns.

With gifted psychic people it may sometimes represent an eerie spiritual feeling you have inside about another person. In a dream, the question would be why was that certain person picked.

It could involve feeling ignored, that people do not see the real you and act as if you are not there.

It could represent feeling ineffective related to being a ghost of your former self.

It could relate to how a part of you has been influenced by the Spirit of another.

These all have the motif of being historical or past parts of yourself whose spirit lives on. In this sense, it would represent an elemental essence of yourself or another person.

All this is not to say that they do not exist. I believe we are affected by spirits according to what the vibration of our inner selves brings into our agenda.

So I do not see them so much as shadow parts of the self as much as I see them as strong historical parts of the self that endure and continue to influence our lives. They are changed, but the spirit is still powerful.

With intuitive persons, it may represent a secret intuitive self that quickly gathers the spirit of a person or situation.

It sometimes indicates a legend.  For example, during the Civil War one of the great marauders of the south who captured Union generals behind the enemy lines, was known as the Gray Ghost. He could come out of thin air, anytime, anywhere.

Or it could mean someone is lost in the sense of ghosts being lost and unable to find their way. They end up roaming aimlessly on earth. At the first level, it could represent the journey of the Lost Soul trying to find the light.

It can also convey the spirit of an epoch such as the “Ghost of Christmas Past.” Or it could show a stain that a person had to live with such as, “he had to live with the ghost of his father’s failure.”

Another possibility might be that a person could imagine themselves doing something as a ghost if they thought something had a low probability of happening in the sense of “he doesn’t have a ghost of a chance of winning.”

There are more meanings of ghosts than with most symbols in dreams I think because it implies spirituality.

The Wounded Healer

Much of Life Is a Healing Process
Much of Life Is a Healing Process

Dream 295:An adult man dreamed that he was a white healer. He had healing balls of energy that appeared in his hands which he could use to heal others. When he touched the patient, the energy was transmuted to the healed in a dazzling display of spiritual/physical power. He then dreamed that he healed himself.

Interpretation

The Wounded Healer is a major archetype, a pattern of thought that recurs in many people’s dreams throughout the ages. White is the most spiritual color . Circular and round objects often represent the soul since they have no beginning and no end.

The dream is all about healing. The dream implies that by healing others, the dreamer will heal himself; and by healing himself, the dreamer will heal others. This model is essentially the root of self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, i.e., someone who had previous experience being wounded like you were was more likely to be empathic and knowledgable.
