What does fire and Bigfoot mean in a dream?

tmp_27281-bigfoot-fire1154492058

A man asked the question, what does fire and Bigfoot mean in a dream?

Dream Answers 318:

Fire often means transformation because it transforms matter into energy. An animal is usually instinctive energy. Bigfoot is a mythical creature that we don’t know whether it exists or not.

Bigfoot would represent unknown unrecognized instinctive massive energy that he probably has in his subconscious that  he was unaware of. The dreamer’s goal, should he decide to accept it, was to activate his Bigfoot energy appropriately. If these two symbols appeared together in the same dream, that would emphasize the importance of changing by using his newfound and massive energy.

These interpretations are based upon my experience. Individual interpretations may vary depending upon the person and circumstance.

What does the ocean, sea coral, and three children mean in a dream?

Growth in the Oceanic Unconscious
Growth in the Oceanic Unconscious

Dream 307 Grow in Awareness of Your Subconscious Emotions or Take a Good Look at Yourself

A woman saw three children running toward a building. Then she found herself in a room which had a fair going on in it with a circus atmosphere replete with concessions, vendors, games, monkeys, fountains of chocolate, costumes, etc. She then saw three kids with a vendor.

The vendor and the three children were in a kitchen. One of the children was licking a bowl after a cake was made. They were listening to the man. He had blue coral growing on half of his face.

The man turned to her to demand that she should be teaching the children about the ocean which is what he was doing. It was all important that she teach the children about the ocean.

Interpretation

Three is the number of change. Three is the number of change because 3 people in a relationship is the most unstable interpersonal situation possible. Things are going to change. Each character is a part of the dreamer’s mind. Children would be relatively new parts. So the dream was saying that she needed to change by integrating relatively new parts of her thinking.

There are a lot of entertainment figures in this dream. The dream may be saying she needed to have more fun and play in her life. The kitchen is a place of creativity and nurture.

The man wants to talk about the ocean which basically is the subconscious. I believe the dream in a larger sense is saying it would be helpful to her creativity (the kitchen). It would also sweetly nurture (the cake bowl) the dreamer to look at her subconscious emotions (teaching the new parts of herself–the children–about the ocean).

Coral is alive and is growth in the ocean. The dream is screaming that exploring her subconscious emotions would lead to growth in how she looked at herself (the coral is on his face). She had to face up to it.

What does a shadow figure mean in a dream?

Shadow Energy
Shadow Energy

The Shadow is a major dream archetype. It is usually a dark figure in profile or can be a criminal or aggressive stalking figure that either tries to break in to your residence or is pursuing you in some way. We all have a shadow. These contain aggressive impulses and parts of ourselves that we have rejected for now.

The shadow also contains our “get up and go.” it is vital to the personality. Other parts of the personality need to be in contact with the shadow to place appropriate limits on it. By working with the shadow, the other parts of the personality benefit by getting the energy that is in the shadow that can be put to good use.

The following is a dream I had at a critical time that assured me that I would make it through a conflict:

Dream 305: The Caped Crusader

I saw a dark caped figure moving energetically down a hall towards me who seemed mysterious but not threatening. It had the aire almost of an evangelical figure arriving to save us all. I looked at him with awe as I was leaning down to tie my shoe.

Interpretation

This was a numinous or luminous image of the shadow. A numinous or luminous image fills the observer with awe because of its power and is almost sacred in nature. The Savior-moving energy of this dark almost evangelical hero image was to reassure me that I had lots of energy which I would have to use in the adversarial conflict I was in the middle of.

Even the detail of tying my shoes was important. Shoes protect the feet and allow us to get somewhere faster in safety. The feet are supportive of our body.

Tying my shoe meant that I was getting myself together to protect and support myself to get to where I needed to be in this conflict. While it was a high level conflict, I believe this detail was emphasizing the importance of details. Not tying your shoe could impede your progress. Not overlooking a detail in the huge administrative conflict I was involved in was extremely important.

What does a sinking ship mean in a dream?

Overwhelmed by Titanic Emotions
Overwhelmed by Titanic Emotions

Dream 304: The Heroic Masculine Saves Your Ship

Water is emotion and the ocean is the best symbol there is for subconscious emotion. A ship represents how you are navigating your emotions, i.e., how you are keeping your head above water. A ship sinking in a dream usually means the dreamer is not doing well.

Ships have almost always been used to reflect emotional tones. When a political campaign is not doing well and staff start resugning and leaving the candidate, it is often said that “the rats are leaving a sinking ship.” When sudden good fortune comes into someone’s life, it is often said that “their ship has come in.”

The following dream is a good example of this imagery as well as talking about the reassuring role the heroic masculine archetype can take in the dreamer’s subconscious:

Dream 304: Saving My Ship

A young woman dreamt that she was on a sinking ship. A dark-haired man dressed in army gear helped her to not be afraid. She asked him his name so that she would remember him when she woke up. He said his name was Joseph Smith. She remembered this dream for years.

Interpretation

At the first level of dream interpretation each character in the dream represents a part of your psyche. The dark-haired man in the drean is the heroic masculine archetype with spiritual undertones. Let me explain.

The heroic masculine showing up is almost always good news. It is the part of your psyche that is willing to do anything for the dreamer’s own good and especially informs the dreamer’s actions. Soldiers are frequently representative of the heroic masculine simply because they are willing to die for their country.

The heroic masculine motto is “to serve and protect.” I believe he showed himself to the dreamer to reassure her that she had a part of herrself that would always be there to help her out of difficult emotional situations. Water is emotion and the ocean is the best symbol we have of the subconscious.

Her heroic masculine indicated that it was going to be there to save her from sinking into overwhelming emotions. Joseph Smith was the founder of the Mormon religion so this is a very spiritual heroic masculine archetype.

This dream is nothing but good news. The heroic masculine’s reassurance was meant to help her emotionally stabilize. Because it would use the founder of the Mormon religion, it implies that her growing spiritually may help her stabilize emotionally, to keep from sinking and being overcome by emotion.

What does a shark mean in a dream?

It's Really Difficult to Leave This Home Pool
It’s Really Difficult to Leave This Home Pool

Dream 302
A woman dreamed that she was underwater in a swimming pool that was a combination of a swimming pool and the ocean. It seemed vast and open on the one hand, but had a ladder and  swimming pool accessories on the other hand. In the water with her was a shark with a bloody mouth because he had just been feeding.

The shark made no move towards attacking her. She decided to leave the pool because she could not hold her breath any longer. She climbed up the pool ladder and was intending to go towards her mother and sister.

The shark grabbed her by the right leg as she was leaving the pool/ocean. The shark did not hurt or bite her. The shark only put enough pressure on the leg that  she could not leave the ocean/pool.

Interpretation

Water is invariably emotions in dreams. Particularly subconscious emotions. It depends upon what type of body of water it is also.

The open ocean represents the best symbol we have for the vast subconscious. A pool represents our emotions at home because pools are located near homes. The image in the dream sounds like a combination of the ocean and a pool so that they together represent deep subconscious emotions at home.

Each character in a dream represents a part of our mind. Women tend to represent the parts of the dreamers mind that deals with emotions. That her mother and sister are in the dream especially emphasizes that it’s about emotions at home.

Also, the shark having a bloody mouth indicates the color red. The color red goes with the first chakra. The first chakra often deals with family (or tribe) issues. The color red also signals strong emotions such as love and anger (which are present in spades in family issues).

Animals represent our instincts. The shark is an aggressive predator. It is a shadow energy that we all deal with and are uncomfortable with for the most part.

The dream implies that she is immersed in her emotions and dealing with instincts or anger which we all have. We need these instincts to some extent to defend ourselves. The dream indicates that she worries about being overly angry sometimes at home and tries not to dwell on it as it makes her uncomfortable.

When she tries to get out of the pool to go to her mother and sister, the shark grabs her right leg. This is important. It sounded like it didn’t really hurt the dreamer but mainly wanted her to stay in the pool.

This is the dreams way of saying it wants her to deal with these emotions. The dream wanted to help her deal emotionally with others. Even the fact that it grabbed her right leg is significant.

Legs support us. The right side is associated with our conscious intentions. This suggest that the dream wants her to deal with any angers she had at home to help her be supportive to others and to herself.

Possible Details to Wonder About

We know at the first level that this dream is about emotional conflicts at home. At the next and second level of the dream, it is vital to get details from the dreamer. Let me explain.

For example, this dream could involve money conflicts and difficulty leaving home. The term “loan shark” comes to mind. One wonders whether there are money issues.

It is possible that she is subconsciously angry because she feels controlled because someone she is close to her has a financial hold on her (the shark not allowing her to leave the pool is the major clue here). Being in such a situation is especially stressful because if she leaves the current financial arrangements, she might feel that she didn’t have a leg to stand on (the shark would not let go of her leg). While it looks like she might be in a “hostile dependency” situation, getting further details from the dreamer would be vital to fully interpret this interesting dream.

Dream Condensation and the Many Different Levels of Dreams

The Many Different Levels of Dreams
The Many Different Levels of Dreams

Dream Information 299:
Dreams have many levels:

(1) The intrapsychic level involves the psychodynamic processes within the person themselves. At this first level, each person or creature in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s psyche. Females signal the dreamer’s emotions, while males are associated with behavior. One can literally think of the characters/creatures/animals in a dream representing different parts of the dreamer’s psyche–either an emotional (female) or an action (male) part of the psyche.

This is at once the most difficult and most fruitful level of dream interpretation. One has to discipline oneself to see this level because the natural human tendency is to go to the second and interpersonal level of dream interpretation. At this first level, it is hard to see each character in the dream as part of the dreamer because one enters an endless hall of mirrors. For example, at the first level, the dreamer’s wife in the dream typically represents the emotional part of the dreamer’s mind that deals with his wife. (to be continued)

What does a baby mean in a dream?

What's new is your life?
What’s new in your life?

Dream Answer 298: Babies are almost always good news in dreams. They typically signal new growth in the dreamer of either new emotional (girl babies) or new behavior (boy babies). The following dream indicated new emotional growth:

An adult woman dreamed that she saw a spirit (baby-like) floating up in the corner of her bedroom near the ceiling. She staring at it trying to figure out what to do when her chihuahua, who was also looking at it, turned to her and said “you see it, just speak to it”. So she asked “who are you” and it materialized into a flower (like a daisy) against her wall.

Interpretation

Each person or creature in a dream is a part of the dreamer’s psyche at the first level. Females tend to go with emotions. Males tend to be associated with behavior. A baby represents a new part of the mind/psyche.

Floating or flying typically takes on spiritual meaning. Floating indicates usually an activated energy that is hanging above the dreamer. The emotional change that the new female baby portends is likely to happen soon when it is floating which is a peaceful and serene form of flying.

Dogs typically go with the dreamer’s affections and are associated with loyalty and protection. The dog gives you advice in the sense of urging you to speak to activate this new emotional part of you. Specifically, the dreamer was urged to speak directly about what she sees going on to others (“you see it, just speak it”).

The baby turning into a flower indicated that her new emotional growth was beautiful. The flower went against her “wall” which indicated she was going to be less defensive. The new emotional growth on the verge of entering the dreamer’s life was that she was becoming less defensive by speaking out directly about what she sees going on. She was being urged to be less defensive and to be more assertive. The dream wanted her to speak her truth.

What do snakes in a dream mean?

Some Snakes and Some Changes Are Beautiful
Some Snakes and Some Changes Are Beautiful

Dream answer 297

Snakes usually indicate massive change of an emotional, spiritual, physical, financial or relationship nature is taking place. This is because snakes are one of the few animals to completely shed their skin. So dreams use change as a metaphor for significant change in your life. The major change snakes reflect means that these dreams are often what Carl Jung called "big dreams."

Also, a snake is a creature and creatures are associated with instinct. So it is usually essential change that is taking place. The number of snakes and/or the size of the snakes usually indicates how big the change is.

The behavior of the snake often indicates what kind of change is occurring. If the snake is aggressive and biting you, it is aggressive change that is occurring. If you are being bitten, but not being harmed, the dream is usually indicating that you were going through stressful change but that it will not harm you in the long run, etc.

Some snakes take on a peaceful and almost beautifully sacred appearance. A dreamer I had in therapy dreamt of a golden snake who would look back at her as if expecting her to follow him out of the house where she was living. She was living with a man that was emotionally cruel to her. The snake was urging the change of leaving that situation.

On the other hand, snakes can be deceptive especially if the dream is making a play upon the words “snake in the grass.” One might want to remember that the snake in the garden of Paradise did not give good advice to Adam and Eve. This is another way of saying some changes are good and some changes are harmful.

What does a house mean in a dream?

At home with yourself
A House Can Be the Dreamer to Some Extent

Dream Answer 296

A house can represent the dreamer to some extent because it is the framework out of which one lives. This is especially the case if it was a house in which the dreamer once lived.

The ages the dreamer was when living in the house (from birth to five years old, from age 12 to 16 years old, etc.) is important. There is something about the dreamer’s present psychodynamics that is situationally similar to the dreamer’s earlier psychodynamics at a specific developmental stage reflected in the dream.

The different areas of the house correspond roughly to different areas of the dreamer’s life. Mental or intellectual processes are associated with the upper floors or roof. An open roof may be a comment on how open minded the dreamer’s mind is, how the dreamer does not protect his thoughts efficiently, or how incomplete and unfinished his or her thoughts are in the sense of being “under construction.”

The family room may be demonstrating family dynamics. The dining room can be associated with how people in the home nurture one another. The garage can represent how people plan to move within their lives.

The living room represents the dreamer’s living space in her life. The kitchen can stand for his creativity since the cook prepares nurturing and creative combinations of food in the kitchen. The subterranean basement can often be a sign of the subconscious because it underlies the reality of the dreamer’s life.

Buildings can signal different portions of the dreamer’s life. Resorts may represent the dreamer’s recreational life or may simply be a “last resort.” Skyscrapers indicate cosmopolitan interests.

Farms may represent ingrained hard work values or bucolic serenity. Universities and, in particular, high schools usually indicate what the dreamer needs to learn in life. Dreams cannot resist using “high school” as a place for your “higher self” to learn.

Dreams cannot resist the metaphor of trains and train stations as a place where you “get your life on track.” Terminals frequently mean where you want to get to in life before you die (before your life is terminated). Airports often signal movement toward higher or spiritual goals in the dreamer’s life.

Shopping malls are frequent in dreams. Dreams cannot resist the play upon words. Dreams often use shopping malls to show how the dreamer has been “mauled” (malled?) in life usually in the person’s career or business life as a shopping mall is a commercial community.

Apartments often suggest only a part, and probably a transitional part, is going to be addressed in the dream. The setting of the dream is almost always important, especially the initial setting. The opening scene often signals what the dream is going to be about. The setting shows the field or area of the dreamer’s life where the subconscious psychodynamics are going to be played out. The above meanings should be seen as tentative hypotheses that the dreamer can confirm or give additional information about.

What does money mean in dreams?

Benjamins of Energy
Benjamins of Energy

Dream Question 296: Money in dreams is usually personal energy. Dreams often use money as a summary symbol of how much physical, emotional, social, political, financial, spiritual and subconscious energy the dreamer has in a given situation. Money commonly signals the amount of personal wherewithal the dreamer can now bring to bear on a problematic situation in the dreamer’s life.

There are, of course, other indicators of the dreamer’s personal energy level. Large land animals such as elephants or vigorous sea creatures such as whales or sharks indicate that the energy level of the dreamer is high. The type of animal describes the energy involved. For example, sharks and scorpions are typically aggressive energy, while horses many times go with relationship or sexual power.

A frequent modern-day symbol for energy involves gas stations. Cars in dreams are typically how you get somewhere in life symbolically in a dream. Getting fuel at a gas station generally indicates that it would be helpful for the dreamer to bring energy from outside of themselves into his or her life to get where they want to go.

Dreams like to use symbols that will get the dreamer’s attention. Money is an important and essential part of modern life that will seldom escape notice. Money is a particularly salient symbol in many situations that can be used as shorthand for the amount of personal resources the dreamer now has.

Money is almost certain to capture the dreamer’s attention. And you can take that to the bank. Ka-ching!

What does food represent in a dream?

Healing Light of Reike
Healing Light of Reike

Dream Question 295:

A female professional chef who also was a lightworker/healer wondered why she often had dreams involving food. This raised the question of what does food usually represent in a dream?

Answer

Dreams almost always are stimulated by recent day residue. Something in the dreamer’s current life literally or symbolically triggered a dream about situations or emotions that you may be dealing with. Food symbolically represents psychological nurture or a wish to want to support/help others.

As a lightworker/healer, she definitely helped and supported other people. It is no surprise from either a practical standpoint or from a symbolic view that food was prominent in her dreams. She was nurturing as a chef and as a new age lightworker.

The Wounded Healer

Much of Life Is a Healing Process
Much of Life Is a Healing Process

Dream 295:An adult man dreamed that he was a white healer. He had healing balls of energy that appeared in his hands which he could use to heal others. When he touched the patient, the energy was transmuted to the healed in a dazzling display of spiritual/physical power. He then dreamed that he healed himself.

Interpretation

The Wounded Healer is a major archetype, a pattern of thought that recurs in many people’s dreams throughout the ages. White is the most spiritual color . Circular and round objects often represent the soul since they have no beginning and no end.

The dream is all about healing. The dream implies that by healing others, the dreamer will heal himself; and by healing himself, the dreamer will heal others. This model is essentially the root of self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, i.e., someone who had previous experience being wounded like you were was more likely to be empathic and knowledgable.

What Does a Fox Mean in Dreams?

A White Spiritual Fox
A White Spiritual Fox

Dream Image 294: I thought I would explain what my namesake means in a dream. First off, animals represent our instinctive drives. A fox is a wily cunning strategist who thinks outside the box. As such, native indigenous people often associated the Fox with the trickster archetype.

The trickster is a major archetype or pattern of thought in dreams. He typically makes impossible situations work by going outside what has been officially authorized. He bends the formal rules to satisfy impossible sometimes dictatorial expectations, i.e., he/she is tricky.

He is a clever sharp intelligent playful and flexible artisan who designs ways to get around onerous rules. The Fox frequently defies historic conventions for the good of humanity. There is a charming Apache legend that the Fox was responsible for bringing fire to people.

In the story, the Fox breaks the rules of the universe by somehow stealing fire from fireflies. Again, one would think that such a feat was impossible, but the trickster fox somehow makes it happen. As a punishment for his theft, the Fox was never allowed to use fire for himself. His deed ended up helping mankind but consigned the benefactor thief to the cold.

One never wants to forget the importance of slang or common meanings in dreams. It should also be remembered that “a fox” can represent an attractive woman/man. To be called “a fox” is to be called an intelligent tricky and good-looking beneficial manipulator.

The color white is the most spiritual color there is. A white fox is a spiritual master cleverly working within, but not strictly according to, the laws of the universe. I rather like my namesake.

The Whole Enchilada

The Hot Enchilada
There Are Many Ways To Be Hot

Dream 293:A 32-year-old woman dreamt that she was an enchilada in a pan with other enchiladas on both sides of her. She was suffocatingly hot. She was so hot that she actually woke up to find her cat and her husband on each side of her.

Interpretation

This dream was true on both the physical and emotional levels of dream interpretation. She woke up because she was physically hot as the heat was turned up in her house and she was between the bodies of her cat and husband. Many people interpreting dreams would stop with the physical interpretation. That is most often a mistake.

While the physical interpretation is certainly true, the emotional interpretation of this dream was also accurate. She was a very nurturing person to her family which is why she appears as food in the dream. Food is psychological nurture in dreams. She admitted that she was “hot” in the sense that her husband had not had sex with her for awhile.

In this case the word “hot” took on multiple meanings. She was “hot” in the sense that she was good-looking. She was “hot” because she had not had sex for a while. Finally her anger toward her husband was a “hot” emotion. To disregard the psychological meaning of this dream would have missed a lot.

Dream Condensation

Man Is A Biopsychospiritual Being Man Is A Biopsychospiritual Being

Dream Explanation 292:

There are many levels to dreams which include physical, psychological, and spiritual. At the physical level, it is vitality. At the psychological level, it is emotion. At the spiritual level, it is the energy of the universe.

In most dreams, all levels are true and when this happens we call it dream condensation. Dreams always use the most efficient means of communicating the most information possible which is what condensation is. Having a “big dream” is a gift that keeps on giving.

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

Dream 291: A man in his thirties had dreams of different places he was living in or hiding in. The roofs were always leaking water or falling apart and were in poor condition. He had these dreams for the last couple of years.

Emotions Are Seeping Into My Mind
Emotions Are Seeping Into My Mind

Interpretation

Water is emotion. The places you are staying can represent yourself to some extent because it is the framework out of which you are living. Parts of the building correspond roughly to different parts of your body. The roof would probably involve your brain or mind.

He also mentioned hiding. The dreams were saying that he was trying to hide from his emotions but they seeped through to his mind anyway.  Changing locations does not stop that process.  He needed to repair his roof, i.e., he needed to handle his emotions differently because the way he is handling emotions now is getting to him and messing up his life.

The rundown nature of the buildings suggest that this is getting him down. The fact that for years he had dreams with a similar theme is significant. Recurrent dreams indicate repetitive similar conflicts that the subconscious is trying to resolve and expresses this process in a dream. Jung considered recurrent dreams to be “big” dreams.

Lightning Integration

She Sees the Light(ning)
She Sees the Light(ning)

Dream 290: A woman in her twenties dreamed that she was in a broken run down apartment. She was with loved ones who were insanely content with the condition of the building. The dreamer wondered why they were so happy. They replied that they were satisfied and intended to stay.

Suddenly, the walls began crumbling, the ceilings fell in and the doors were in flames. She then had a vision of Zeus and saw a storm approaching. She somehow felt that she chose lightning which struck a tree in her yard which burst into flames. The tree fell toward the dreamer and crashed through her window.

The dreamer was unscathed, but ran out of the house because she was full of fear that she and loved ones would be hurt. As she ran outside, there was a party going on with neighbors and loved ones. It was a celebration with food and friends. She woke up craving a Pepsi.

Interpretation

Each character represents a part of the dreamer’s mind. A house or apartment represents the framework out of which the dreamer lives. The dream starts out by commenting that the dreamer is entirely too happy with her life when there are obvious flaws and cracks in it.

Fire represents change because fire transforms matter into energy. Lightning is instantaneous and dramatic change. That Zeus appears in the dream indicates that the tumultuous change was sanctioned by the gods.

The dream went on to say that a storm was developing in the dreamer’s life. A tree is a major symbol of integration as its roots go deep beneath visible reality (subconscious), it is present on the surface (conscious), and it opens to the sky (which often has spiritual implications). The storm in her life was disturbing or crashing into her life so that instantaneous change (lightning) was required.

Windows breaking in a dream typically means that the emotional impact has reached the dreamer, i.e., the dreamer now not only sees what is happening, but feels what is happening. The dreamer was afraid that the change would hurt her; however, the appearance of food and friends was meant to assure her that the change was or will be psychologically and socially nurturing. The dream ends by telling her to get with it because she is a part of the Pepsi generation.

The Right and Left Stairways

stairs

Dreams 289: A man in his early forties dreamed that he was talking to some girls when he was in high school in New York. It was very casual and relaxed conversation in a restaurant located at the top of a mansion. When he left, he found himself at the top of stairs on a landing where there was a stairway to his right and there was a stairway to his left.

He went down the left stairway and knew somehow that he had to use a phone. He then went down the right stairway and found a woman that looked like his wife. She was pretty and looked like his wife. He thought she looked depressed as she was leaning forward on her arms with her forearms resting on the table. He then saw the girls he was talking to earlier pass by in the distance.

Interpretation

This dream is all about communication with his wife. Stairs invariably represent sex because it is a rhthymic activity that ends in a climax. The left tends to be associated in ancient India with subconscious emotions, while the right usually represents conscious activity. The dream is emphasizing the importance of communication in their sex life.

Restaurants are where people are physically and psychologically nourished. The dream is saying that there was something about the way he communicated with those girls in New York that would be useful in his marriage, that there was something about that type of communication that would be especially nourishing in his marriage.

Movement in this dream is down stairways because their sex life was a “downer.” Movement down the left involves emotion. A phone is at the bottom of this stairway to emphasize the importance of communication.

The right is associated with conscious action. In this case, his depressed wife at the bottom of these stairs represented disappointment over the lack of sexual action, intimacy, in his marriage. The dream ends by recommending interaction with his wife like he had with the New York girls that pass in the distance.

Appearance of the Sacred Heroic Masculine

tmp_19585-White Knight-1399391585 To Serve and Protect

Dream 288
A man in his forties dreamed repeatedly that he was visited by a white robed faceless spirit. This spirited man gave the dreamer all elements of a knights armor. He was given a knights helmet, breastplate, body armor, sword, etc.

This was a recurring dream where he found himself fighting evil night after night in his protective knights armor. He felt powerful and strong. He felt the dream was spiritually significant.

Interpretation
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s mind or psyche. Men are usually associated more with action parts of the mind. Women usually represent more emotional parts of the psyche.

Repetitive or recurrent dreams are almost always big dreams as Carl Jung believed that some dreams meant more than others. This was especially likely to be the case with recurrent dreams. Usually, the recurrent dream is returning to a repeated theme to continue to try to resolve a repetitive problem.

This dreamer was visited by his own spirit of the heroic masculine. The heroic masculine is the most positive aspect of masculinity. It is a major archetype ingrained in the collective subconscious of mankind.

The heroic masculine motto is “to serve and protect.” This is a very spiritual dream. White is the most spiritual color.

The fact that the heroic masculine was faceless and the evil he was fighting was vague indicated that there are many aspects of himself that he is not familiar with. The dream was recurring over the course of a month as his subconscious wanted him to get to know both the positive and shadow parts of his subconscious. The dream used knights armor to emphasize that chivalry of the heroic masculine. The dream use the armor to emphasize that it was mainly about how he protected himself so that he could protect and help others.

This dream was saying that he would be protected when he uses his heroic masculine to protect himself and others from evil. This dream was saying that the dreamer had developed the positive aspects of masculinity to the point where he was a spiritual warrior. The appearance of this strong of a form of the heroic masculine indicates that he was ready to take major positive action for himself and loved ones.

Commitment

A Commitment Is Forever
A Commitment Is Forever
Dream 287: A 47-year-old man dreamed that he and his wife were on a beach. They took their wedding rings off and threw them into a pleasantly rising wave in the ocean. They felt safe and relaxed.

Interpretation

A circle is the best symbol we have for the soul because it has no beginning and it has no end. A ring is circular and is worn on your finger virtually permanently. A wedding in a dream represents the integration of male and female aspects of the dreamer as it stands for a man and woman forming a committed relationship.

Water is almost always emotion. The ocean is the best symbol for subconscious emotion that there is. The dream indicated that their emotions were rising. What the dream is saying by their throwing their rings into a rising tide is that their commitment to one another was increasing and creating a new and pleasant wave of emotion. Their commitment to one another created a new wave of lasting love.

The Joy of the Divine Child

Our Hopes and Dreams
Our Hopes and Dreams

Dream 286: A Woman in her twenties had a recurrent dream that she woke up in a room with a man sleeping next to her. A noise caught her attention. She leaned over the man to see a little girl playing on the floor.

She woke the man up who picked up the little girl. The little girl had been playing with books. She looked at her book while sitting on the man’s lap. The little girl was a beautiful child that had hair so soft the dreamer could not resist touching her hair.

The dreamer asked the man who the beautiful little girl was. He had an amazing smile on his face as he said to the dreamer that the little girl was hers. As he handed the toddler to the dreamer, the child wrapped her arms around the dreamer’s neck.

The dreamer then felt that she knew exactly who the little girl was. She knew now with conviction that the little girl was hers. She felt joyously elated.

Interpretation

The dreamer was visited by her Divine Child archetype. The Divine Child is usually a little girl often with blonde hair and blue eyes (not necessarily) between the ages of 3 and 10 years old. She represented the dreamer’s hopes and dreams for the future.

At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in a dream represents part of the dreamer’s mind. Men typically go with actions; women usually go more with emotions. This is not absolutely so, but it is usually the case.

Thus, the man in the dream and the child together represent her mature actions energized by her hopes and dreams, the Divine Child archetype. The thought is that she recently decided on actions that will further her hopes and dreams. The inclusion of books suggest a thoughtful, intelligent or academic decision might be part of the scenario. The dreamer is to be congratulated.

Only the dreamer knows enough of the details of her life to be able to apply this interpretation to her interpersonal life. The man in the dream is significant in a positive way. He is the heroic masculine archetype. His appearance is often good news because it means the dreamer is ready to take positive action in life. His motto is “to serve and protect.”

It is no wonder that this dream made the dreamer feel joyous. Usually a dreamer at this stage begins to know what they want and are ready to take steps to actualize their life. The fact that this was a recurrent dream means that this dream is a “big dream.”

Recurrent dreams are big dreams that mean more than other dreams. That is because the dream is addressing repetitive issues in the dreamer’s life. Recurrent dreams make repeated attempts to get the message to the dreamer until the dreamer “gets it.”

The Fur Flies

Emotional Cat Fight
Emotional Cat Fight

Dream 285: A woman dreamt said she saw a huge wave of water crashing into a building. Then she saw she two cats fighting. The fur was flying and the fight was vicious. At least one of the cats was black and white.

Interpretation
Water in dreams is virtually always emotion. Buildings in dreams can represent the dreamer because it is a framework out of which the dreamer operates. Family pets usually represent affections. Dogs often represent male affections or loyalty. Cats typically signal female affection or sensuality.

Each creature in the dream is seen as part of the dreamer’s mind at the first level of dream interpretation. Black and white colors typically stand for opposing feelings or good vs bad. The dream is saying that she has been hit by a wave of emotion that has led to a cat fight amongst her affections.

To know the details of what these affections were for, we would have to go to the second level or interpersonal level of dream interpretation where information from the dreamer is vital. Usually only the dreamer has enough information of the details to specify what content the symbolic conflict amongst her emotions or affections is about. I would speculate that it may have to do with her emotions toward some unspecified women because of the cats engaging in the classic “cat fight.”

Lincoln’s Prophetic Dream

The president is dead. He was assassinated.
The president is dead. He was assassinated.

Lincoln had this dream shortly before his assassination:
About ten days ago, I retired very late. I had been up waiting for important dispatches from the front. I could not have been long in bed when I fell into a slumber, for I was weary. I soon began to dream. There seemed to be a death-like stillness about me. Then I heard subdued sobs, as if a number of people were weeping. I thought I left my bed and wandered downstairs. There the silence was broken by the same pitiful sobbing, but the mourners were invisible. I went from room to room; no living person was in sight, but the same mournful sounds of distress met me as I passed along. It was light in all the rooms; every object was familiar to me; but where were all the people who were grieving as if their hearts would break?

I was puzzled and alarmed. What could be the meaning of all this? Determined to find the cause of a state of things so mysterious and so shocking, I kept on until I arrived at the East Room, which I entered.

There I met with a sickening surprise. Before me was a catafalque, on which rested a corpse wrapped in funeral vestments. Around it were stationed soldiers who were acting as guards; and there was a throng of people, some gazing mournfully upon the corpse, whose face was covered, others weeping pitifully. ‘Who is dead in the White House?’ I demanded of one of the soldiers ‘The President’ was his answer; ‘he was killed by an assassin!’ Then came a loud burst of grief from the crowd, which awoke me from my dream.

My Emotions Are Flying Every Which Way

images(2)
Dream 281: A 39-year-old man dreamed that he was installing a drip line underground nearest home to water his plants. The main water pipe leading to the drip system broke and was shooting streams of water into the sky.

Interpretation

Water is virtually always emotion in dreams. A drip line guides water to plants so that it is distributed evenly to the various plants. Plants represent growth. Installing a drip line means that he is managing his emotions so that he evenly distribute his emotional energy among his various personal growth projects.

That the drip line is installed underground implies the subconscious (underground=unconscious). That the water is spraying into the air means that he has no direction as to what projects he should direct his energy toward and is wasting a lot of energy. He was an intelligent man with attention deficit with many talents who did not follow through with any project. He tried to do 100 different projects at once and accomplished none.

Dream 271: The Orbs Predict Jobs

I See the Light
I See the Light

Dream 271: Orbs and Ghosts

A twenty-something woman had the following dream: “The other day I had a dream about ghosts in my room, it opened my bedroom door and opened all my dresser drawers and started throwing out all its contents. Then awhile later in my dream, I was in a cabin like house with my mom and I saw 3 orbs, like silver lights, dancing all around the room. I kept saying “mom look! Mom look!” I didn’t know if she could see them. Then suddenly they were coming at me, and as soon as they were up to my face they turned into bubbles that were thick enough to touch without popping. The other integer thing I remember is having an abundance of jobs coming up in my near future. Just thought it was a pretty cool dream to have.”

Interpretation: Clothes usually represent your defenses. The ghost literally represents your spirit. By throwing the clothes on the floor your spirit is urging you to be less defensive. Orbs and circles are usually representatives of the soul and I would have no problem with seeing them as guides.

Houses or cabins can represent the dreamer because they are frameworks out of which you live. The number three is significant because it is the number of change. Three people in a relationship tends to be unstable, and things are going to change. So the dream is predicting personal change.

It is interesting that I think this dream is partly symbolic and partly predictive. Bubbles are made of water and water is emotion almost always. That they do not burst is a good sign because I think the dream is predicting job opportunities for you in the sense that ” your bubble will not be burst.” The ghosts are probably more defensive spirits or attitudes from the past that need to be thrown out. The orbs are likely to be new possibilities she is facing. The orbs are a good omen.

Dream 270: Learning to Say No

date-rape-drugDream 270: Learn to Say No
A 22-year-old female college sophomore dreamed that a slick and fast talking lawyer was trying to talk her into investing in a dubious deal. She then had the scene of entering a classroom and the students were voting about whether they should each receive an injection of a drug that would hypnotize the recipient. The dream shifted to her at a busy nightclub. Her mother was in one corner of the nightclub urging her to ingest ketamine, the date rape drug. The dreamer was disgusted with her mother’s advice.
Interpretation
The slick lawyer was the embodiment of the Trickster archetype. Archetypes are patterns of thought common in culture that are passed on through human consciousness. The trickster is often a wheeler-dealer manipulator who gets what he wants. The dreamer was influenced too much by tricksters both financially and socially.
The classroom scene emphasized that there were many parts of herself (each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s mind) that expressly do not want to be hypnotized or controlled by other. That this occurs in a classroom emphasized that she should not be swayed by others to ignore what she has learned.
The final scene emphasized that her tendency to go along with others wants came from her mother. Mom was excessively giving to the point that she was often used by others with sometimes disaster results. Her disgust was actually a good sign that the dreamer was going to be more careful in social or dating situations.

Dream 269: Saving Face

Send in the clowns
Send in the clowns

Dream 269:

A 32-year-old woman dreamed of an image of her face with a huge number of stitches which covered her face almost like a mask.

Interpretation
Her job was in security for a federal building. She had to thoroughly search each person who entered the building. It often was necessary to be assertive and even abrupt with difficult people.

In dreams, a mask is it defense that hides who you really are. She thought that she had to put on a stern façade which was not like her real personality. The image in this dream brings to mind the saying of “saving face.” She thought that to heal herself she would have to quit the job because it was covering who she really was.

She disliked the scars which the job forced on her personality. She felt the job was ruining the image she had of herself. Consciously, she felt the job was good paying and have good benefits; however, she knew that her subconscious would eventually insist she leave the job.

Flipper or Shamu?

and emotionally sensitive tore like intelligence and emotionally sensitive to

Dolphins have amazing right hemisphere-like intelligence and are emotionally sensitive too. Some scientists have suggested that they are like “humans of the sea” and should be treated special. Other fans simply call them “angels of the sea.”

In any case, it is almost always good news when they show up in dreams. First of all, the ocean is the biggest and best symbol of subconscious emotion that we have. Having large mammals or sea creatures in dreams about the ocean indicates that you have a lot of instinctive energy in your subconscious or unconscious.

Dolphins are usually more of a playful and  dynamic energy. This contrasts with sharks and killer whales. If the latter show up, it shows subconscious energy, but it is more of a shadow or aggressive energy.

You want to know what types of energies are operating in your subconscious. I once knew someone who knew what kind of general attitude she had towards life by the presence of either killer whales or dolphins in her dreams. It turns out that it’s usually better to have Flipper the dolphin in your dreams than it is to have Shamu the killer whale show up.

What does dying in a dream mean?

Stop with the negative waves, man
Stop with the negative waves, man
Dream 268:Fighting the Zombies

A man dreamed that he died because he was attacked by zombies. His spirit rose above the zombies but he was still able to be in the physical world. He killed one zombie by cutting his throat with garden shears.

A random zombie head somehow moving toward him bit him in the leg. He cut the zombie head in half.

Interpretation: Zombies are almost always depression. Zombies are the “living dead” which is the way major depression can feel. At the first level of dream interpretation, each character represents a part of the dreamer’s psyche or mind. So the dream is announcing that this dream will be about how he handles his depression.

Death in a dream typically means that the dreamer has to change in a major way. In other words, there is a part of the mind that needs to be shelved or “die.” The dream is saying that his new self (his spirit) needs to rise above his depression (the zombies).

The first zombie he kills (the first factor he needs to change) is negative or depressing speech. We know this because speech emanates from the throat. It is interesting that he uses garden shears.

Garden shears get rid of growth (plants). The dream is dramatically saying in regard to his negative speech, that he needs to “cut it out.”

The second zombie is intellectuallization. The dream is saying that he literally is too much in his head. The dream wants him to cut his depressive thinking at least by half.

What does a whale mean in a dream?

Having a Whale of a Time Mom
Look Mom! Having a Whale of a Time!

Dream 267: Riding the Whale

A nine-year-old boy dreamed he was riding a whale in a large football stadium filled with water. The whale fathomed the waters and did death-defying flips in the air. The boy somehow was unhurt. In fact, he did not even get drenched.

The whale suddenly turned and headed straight for a wall. The boy feared the giant mammal would not be able to stop in time. The dream ended without showing the outcome.

Interpretation

He recently started living with his mother. At his previous residence, there were strict rules and limitations on his range of movement. His mother fostered self-sufficiency and independence in the boy while having flexible and sensible rules that kept him safe.

Water is almost always emotion. Animals represent instinctual and natural drives. A whale in particular represents the desire for powerful emotional experiences. The dream was showing him that he now could experiment with his behavior with proper boundaries.

He fears that he will “hit a wall” with his new-found freedom. The dream ends without that happening. The dream is signaling that he is unlikely to be harmed by his guided and responsible independence.

The dream is trying to reassure him that his new environment is safe. Given the feats the whale was accomplishing at the beginning of the dream, if I were a betting man, I would bet the whale makes that turn in time. When you can ride that mammoth mammal subconscious drive without even getting really wet, it is likely that you are in for a whale of a time.

Impressive Predictive Dreams

Dream Image 266: A man dreamt that he could see his mother targeted by a sniper. He was not the sniper, but he had the vision of his mother being in the crosshairs of the rifle’s scope. He woke up just as the sniper was pulling the trigger.

Interpretation: the next day his mother was fired from her job. This dreamer complained that his dreams became true too often. The more one interprets dreams, the more one is impressed at the number of dreams that are predictive. Predictive or precognitive dreams are one of the six main types of dreams.

Striking Dreamlike Image

Dreamlike image 265:

Why is this image of lightning striking a tree so impressive? It is because of the meaning of the different elements of the image in dreams or in our subconscious. Lightning is electric fire.

Fire subconsciously is registered as change because fire changes matter into energy. Lightning is dramatic fire or fire on steroids. Lightning is dramatic change that occurs instantly.

Trees unconsciously are seen by the mind as an image of integration since the tree opens to the sky, goes underground deeply and is here on the level with us. So a tree represents growth and integration of the three levels of the mind representing, respectively, the superego, the unconscious, and the conscious mind. It is almost always a positive sign when trees enter the dream scenery.

So a healthy tree being struck by lightning means that dramatic and instantaneous change has occurred which is integrative to the person. In other words, it is almost always good news although it is certain to stressful. The rapidity of the change is dramatic and affects the whole person and 20140731-110637-39997799these transformative changes are likely to be positive although the person going through it is likely to be disoriented trying to adjust to it. Even good change takes a person some time to adapt to it.

Dream 258: It Isn’t How You Look; It’s How You Do

shave_legsDream 258: A 31-year-old woman dreamt that she was a counselor to dorms full of kids ages sixteen to twenty-something years old. Parents were visiting the dorms that day. A female coach sans windbreaker and athletic clothes told her that she had spoken to three young men in one of the dorm rooms. They told her that the dreamer’s legs were not fat, but they advised that the dreamer should shave her legs.

Interpretation: Each character in the dream can be a part of the dreamer’s mind or psyche. Male figures tend to go with actions while women are usually associated more with the dreamer’s emotions. The dorms full of kids show that the dream is going to talk about her development socially (these ages are critical in social and sexual behavior).

Parents visiting indicates that the subconscious will be discussing parental influence on her social development. That she is a counselor indicates that the dream wants to speak to the psychologically insightful part of her. The female coach is interesting because we think it is primarily emotional in nature, but the athleticism this part of the mind brings to the table shows that the unconscious is going to be focusing on how her emotions affect her actions.

The three young men indicate that the dream wants her actions to change (three is the number of instability since three people in a relationship are unstable.) They specifically give the coach of her emotions the message that her inherent appearance is fine (her legs are not fat), but she should take action to improve her situation. The message directly says that she needs to rid herself of hairy situations that she does not need, i.e., shave her legs.

It is notable that legs are supportive and get us where we need to go.  Her subconscious wants her to accept herself and get rid of hairy situations she lets grow on her that interfere with her getting to where she needs to go.

I am finishing my personal story and sojourn to health by putting MS into remission with the help of the universe/God. Sleep Paralysis, Hypnagogia, and Night Terrors

sleep-paralysisA questioner on the reddit.com dream board asked the following question about his girlfriend:

“This is what she sent me this morning: “Like I’d be sleeping but I’m conscious that I’m awake and then I start seeing a ghost and I scream but nothing comes out and I’m completely paralyzed and I try waking up but it doesn’t work and when I wake up I’m crying like crazy”. What does this mean exactly?”
——————————————
Answer:It sounds like she is having night terrors due to “waking up” in a dream state. The dream state is called REM (for Rapid Eye Movements because your eyes are moving we think the way they would if the dream were actually happening). During REM, you lose muscle tone and are functionally paralyzed from the neck down.

We believe the body loses muscle tone because you would act out the dream otherwise and get hurt. There have been people who did not lose muscle tone during sleep–they were in danger because they were walking and moving while asleep. I believe it is likely that she woke up in A REM state and that is why she could not move. The condition between sleep and waking up is called hypnagogia. It is during this time one can have a hypnagogic hallucination.

Her seeing the ghost is a “dream hallucination” or hypnagogic hallucination. She is actually having an awake dream which can be quite terrifying and is often called “night terrors.” Simply keeping an indirect light on will often prevent the night terrors. I believe this may be because it is more possible to wake yourself up from the dream hallucination.

An alternative may be to instruct yourself before going to sleep that if the dream paralysis/ hallucination happens again, that you can protect yourself by simply closing your eyes and going to sleep. Sometimes by not fighting the dream, you are less likely to induce the fear response. Sleep is, after all, protective.

What is the meaning of fire in a dream?

Dream 234: Descending Into Hell

A 28-year old man dreamt that a pet cat was attacking and chewing on his neck. The scene then shifted to a large pit. He was standing to the side of a platform that was being lowered into the bowels of the pit. There were many people stacked on top of one another sideways with their feet toward the dreamer.

He eventually saw that the platform was descending into hell. Fire raged all about them. A great sucking force was also starting to pull him down into the ghastly pit. He resisted with all his might and reached up to his wife who was at home in bed. She refused to help him.

Dream 234 Interpretation

Family pets are associated with affections. Dogs tend to go with men. Cats tend to go with women. His wife was angry with him to the point that she could bite his head off.

The people on the platform he recognized in his own words as parts of himself “that needed to go to hell.” Feet are a supportive part of the body.  The dream was emphasizing feet to show that providing psychological support to himself and his family (a wife and two sons) was a central issue.

Burning Change
Burning Change

Fire indicates the need for change as fire transforms matter into energy. He had many controlling and intimidating parts of himself that he needed to extricate from his psyche. These parts developed in response to abuse from his father and stepfathers. The dream makes a point of indicating that these threatening parts “sucked” and threatened to ruin the marriage (his wife was in bed at home). In any case, his wife had it with him and he would have to change through his efforts and not rely on her to pull him through.

The Love Triangle

images(19)146147910Dream 229: Three’s a Crowd

A 19-year-old man dreamt an image of an apartment. The single enclosed bathroom was in the middle of the apartment. The rest of the apartment was vague and indistinct except featured prominently were a urinal and a toilet in the open.

Dream 229—Interpretation

He lived with his girlfriend in an apartment where a former lover supposedly now turned just-a-roommate also lived. His girlfriend was consistent in her stance that any sign of a former love relationship with her old boyfriend was nonexistent in her mind; however, it was clear to the dreamer that the old boyfriend still loved the woman.

Urinals and toilets get rid of toxic waste we no longer need and must eliminate. Dreams metaphorically use toilets and urinals as a sign that toxic emotions (water is invariably emotions in dreams) and other toxic stuff (euphemism) needs to be eliminated from the dreamer’s life. There is more emphasis on negative emotions being discarded because a urinal is used only to get rid of waste water (it is uncommon to see urinals outside of healthcare or commercial establishments).

It is an interesting side note that the dreamer and girlfriend had no trouble sharing a bathroom and being quite “open” about it. Her old boyfriend was adamant about keeping the bathroom private which is why the dream isolates and encloses one of the toilets.

Spilling My Guts

images(17)-1506322900

Dream 228: Spilling My Guts
(female dreamer questioning) A friend of mine had a dream that her husband’s abdomen kept getting bigger and bigger and finally burst spewing out fluid. What are your thoughts on this?

Answer: Dreaming of her husband involves an action part of her psyche at the first level. The abdomen is close to the solar plexus where self-esteem resides according to traditions of the East. Water in dreams is almost invariably emotion. Putting this all together implies that she was doing something that she felt really good about, but for some reason lost the stamina to do it, i.e., lost her guts and felt emotionally drained.

As a note, the interpreter always wants to make sure that there is not an overriding physical reason involved. One wants to make sure that the body is not trying to signal that she has some serious ailment. Or it could be something like cramps or stomach upset or menstrual troubles.

Sometimes the two different levels can condense which would be something like hoping to get pregnant and then troubles occur or some variation on that theme.

This dream was interpreted using principles in my book at http://www.drstevenfox.com

Defending My Ideals

Compromise?Dream 227: Defending My Ideals (written by the dreamer)
I am always fending off or struggling with someone or some situation in my dreams. Not a physical fight, but defending my actions/words or trying to get someone to understand a universally perceived truth. Is this my subconscious telling me to not be so concerned with others opinions? Any thoughts?

Dream 227 Answers–One enters an endless hall of mirrors when talking about conflict in this case because we are literally discussing how the different parts of your own psyche disagree at the first level of dream interpretation. There is a very idealistic part of you concerned with universal truth that is defending itself from compromising what you believe in versus what you may have to do to satisfy other needs. The constant struggle is emotionally draining and upsetting.

Trust, Soul and Death

Dream 226: Distrust and Death in Afghanistan

Fog of War
Fog of War

A 36-year-old woman dreamt that she was riding through a Midwest prairie in a car and it was a vast land of rolling hills. She then saw herself getting out of the car and giving water to a large group of Boy Scouts. Much to her horror, the Boy Scouts turned into Arab extremist terrorists.

The scene then shifted to her being in a cafeteria where there were multiple tables arranged in a circle. There was much confusion about what supplies they were supposed to get from each table. They stood there facing the tables and then a whistle blew and there was mass confusion and chaos.

Dream 226–Interpretation

She served in Afghanistan. The rolling hills of the prairie reminded her of the Mideast. Boy Scouts were used by the dream because the dream was mainly about action parts of her psyche. She was aware that the Boy Scouts motto  was to “be prepared.”

She suffered post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the Mideast as a result of almost being raped and having her life threatened. The dream was screaming that a major problem for her was trust because the trustworthy Boy Scouts turned into terrorists. This was her experience in the Mideast, that someone could be your friend and then turn on you.

The next section indicated that she was dealing with issues of the soul as the tables in the cafeteria were arranged in a circle. Circles usually represent the soul because they have no beginning and no end.  She was in charge of taking care of notifying families that their loved ones were killed in action or by accident in the army. She noted that it was a confusing conflagration of trying to decide what to do next in dealing with, many times, difficult family members who were confused and disoriented themselves.

The trying to get supplies and the mass confusion that erupted once the signal was given was similar to what she experienced. She explained that when she was deployed, chaos erupted when they were given an explicit order to attack at a certain time.

You Cannot Go Back

house-on-fire11196420330

Dream 225: You Cannot Go Back

A 52-year-old woman dreamed that her earlier house was on fire. She wanted to go back to get some of her old things. A male fireman would not let her go back inside.

Dream 225–Interpretation

A house can represent the dreamer to some extent because it is the framework out of which one lives. Fire represents change because it transforms matter into energy. The dream is screaming that she wants to go back to some of her old ways before she engaged in therapy.

The fireman is male specifically because the dream is using the male action part of her psyche to emphasize that it is more about how she does things than it is about feelings. In dreams, males are associated with an action part of the psyche. Female characters in a dream usually represent an emotional part of the mind. This is not absolutely so, but is usually the case.

Check Emotions at the Door

http://www.miamiguardservice.com/images/cctv-security-miami.gifcctv-security-miami(2)-1265073637

Dream 223: Check Your Emotions at the Door

An executive dreamt that he left his former workplace which was a commercial building. As he walked outside it became a residential home like the house that his best friends owned. He walked to the house next door which was a thatched shanty like his bipolar ex-wife owned.

He decided not to go inside. He went back his former workplace and entered in a different and new doorway. The female vastly underemployed security guard was fastidiously checking through multiple papers to see if he could return.

Dream 223–Interpretation

The setting of the dream often indicates what issues the dream wishes to address. We know that this dream primarily deals with his work life because of reference to a commercial building. He was on disability for a year and was getting restless.

He did not feel that he could return to work fully. He was offered contract work on projects that he could work on from home, i.e., he could telecommute. The dream is screaming that he could benefit from working from home.

Each character in a dream represents a different part of the dreamer’s mind at the first level of dream interpretation. Men are usually associated with an action part of the psyche. Women typically signal an emotional part of the mind.

A house can represent the dreamer to some extent because it is the framework out of which the dreamer lives. In this dream, the different houses or buildings represent different aspects of his life, i.e. his employment, mental health and home life. The dream encourages working from home by showing the house of his two best friends he had growing up that married each other in life.

Marriage is a sign of integration of actions with emotions. He basically says no to depression by not entering the shanty since it was owned by his mentally ill ex-wife. The dream indicates he is integrating actions and emotions that are friends.

The female guard is the emotional part of himself that was concerned with his security. He was vastly underutilized like the security guard was. The dream is screaming that he needs to check his emotions, like the female security guard, to decide what projects to accept for his own security. The dream advises that he now should take a different approach to work, i.e., that he enter work through a new and different doorway.

A 42-year-old man dreamt that he was walking with his 8-year-old daughter down a path. They came upon a rattlesnake that looked threatening. He killed the rattlesnake and gave the rattlesnake’s rattlers to his daughter which she used as a play toy.

Dream 222–Interpretation

He was an engineer for many years. He quit when his anxiety became unmanageable after he was given an exceedingly critical supervisor. He went on short-term disability. He decided for many reasons not to go back to engineering. He then went to college to become a physician’s assistant.

He did not like the effect disability had on his emotions nor did he like the example it was setting for his children. Each animal, human, creature or spirit represents a part of the dreamer’s mind at the first level of dream interpretation. The path represented his path in life.

Snakes in particular represent change, as they are one of few animals that completely shed their skin. In this case, it signaled the massive change in family life that the disability threatened to entrench. The dream was saying thst he needed to change his path in life. He frankly killed the idea of going on disability.

His daughter in this dream represented the Divine Child archetype which were his hopes and dreams. He decided to go into a healing profession which was the medical field. It is notable that snakes are also often associated with healing (think of the two snakes encircling a staff which is the symbol for the American Medical Association). His giving the rattlers to his daughter to play with as a toy suggested that he would even find these massive changes in his life fun.

Angel Message

At the height of my worst multiple sclerosis (MS) symptoms, I asked my wife to have a dream about how I should handle my MS. The next morning my wife described a dream in which an angel sang four rules that I needed to follow:

(1) Be non-judgemental. This rule was primary  and covered 70 percent of what I needed to do to improve my symptoms.
(2) Show inner beauty with the emphasis on emotion.
(3) Mirror the earth (follow natural cycles like getting up with the sun).
(4) Glorify the transfigurement. This was the most spiritual part of the message. The emphasis was on the product and not the process. I believe now, in hindsight, that it meant be thankful for the positive changes and the resulting increase in function.
Recalling these rules, which I lived by, gives me chills even today. It is more than fifteen years later and the MS is in full remission.

Dream 221: Go Deeper

A 38-year-old woman dreamt that she was going skin diving and had a mask on. The mask was quite prominent on her face. She remembered being pulled down to the bottom of the ocean.

She noted that there was a blackout mark over her mouth as you sometimes see in magazines only the mark is most often over people’s eyes. She had images of her mother flashing in and out during the dream.

Dream 221–Interpretation

She was having a hard time asserting herself at work in a new supervisor position. She noted that her mother had always been very unassertive and passive. Her mother introject appeared throughout the dream because it is the emotional part of herself that she is trying to resolve.

She has a mask over her face that is prominent because she feels like she is hiding and not being true to herself to a large extent. The censor mark or blackout mark is over her mouth because she does not say what she truly means to others because she is too unassertive. She feels pulled to the bottom of the ocean which is her dream’s way of saying that she needs to be true to herself and experience deeper emotion.

The ocean is the best symbol of unconscious emotion that we have. The dream was pointing out that she needs to go deeper into her subconscious emotion to change her so that she allows herself ro speak out. The dream traced the beginnings of her lack of assertiveness to her internalized mother introject. She needed to love herself more to have the confidence to assert herself.

Jung maintained that we each had a higher Self that should always be capitalized. This soulful Self was expressed through the subconscious in dreams. Her Self is asking her to change in this dream.
