How is the shadow in dreams related to death?

Attending my wife’s funeral the other day, it struck me that death is the ultimate shadow following us through life. We are often motivated to accomplish things in a timely manner because of awareness that death is our ultimate fate. This is especially true as one ages.

The shadow is the part of our personality that everyone needs to protect us. It will do anything to protect the dreamer, which is why other parts of the dreamer’s personality need to moderate the Shadow’s response to threats.

One wants to remember that the shadow contains parts of us that we have not used, as well as aggressive parts. If I decided not to become a priest, there is a priest in my shadow that I may want to use at some point later in my life.
Dreams very much use stereotypes which is why Shadows are black in dreams. Plus the fact, shadows are indeed black. Plus the fact, the darkness indicates the subconscious. But one does not want to confuse the color of the Shadow as having any racial inferences.

In fact, when you have a black person in a dream, I believe that indicates that it is a very Soulful part of the person. That is because images from the collective subconscious come from any thought any man in history has ever had. Consciousness is connected in ways that we do not understand, but The older some day science will.

The deeper the thought, the more likely it is archetypal and ingrained in the collective unconscious to which every person is connected.

Black people in dreams are very Soulful parts of the subconscious because man began in Africa in tribes where the first archetypal images, where the deepest archetypal images, where the most soulful images, were created because they were the very first archetypal images. A black person in a dream is soulful because it harkens back to the day when our ancestors were gathered around camp fires in Africa. Common language recognizes this soul connection. For instance, we even call it “soul music,” do we not?

Black people in dreams indicate spirituality in dreams. A higher sense of soul is being summoned usually. The shadow is the part of the personality that protects us in life, and gives way in death to eternal life.

Do dreams ever possibly refer to past lives?

Dream 480: Quit sacrificing yourself

A man had the following dream:

“I dreamt of painting a series of numbers on a canvas-like material.
The numbers filled the full space of the canvases. I remember painting the number 5.  I believe the numbers were in sequential order. 1 through 8 and all of them were painted black and white. I can remember painting the number 5 with black paint. The number 8 however was painted white on a black background.
I can remember having my photo taken of myself, and asked the photographer if I could see his picture of me, since it was a digital photo. In the photo I looked smaller than normal. Also, I guess I was at a Renaissance fair, as I can remember that I was looking for a chainmail suit that knights wear.  I was a knight from the Middle Ages. I was looking for a chainmail suit.  I kept thinking of chainmail suit of armor before I awoke this morning.

In the photo, I looked smaller as I forgot to mention that I looked like a Fool or Jester from the Middle Ages.  I am speaking of the Fool or Jester from the Middle Ages.  The Fool’s look is of wearing striped stockings and what we today would consider flamboyant or feminine, for a guy to be wearing tights. Take a look at the original Tarot deck, and you will see the Jester or Fool I am speaking of.

I am not sure where 5 came from.  I also don’t why I kept thinking of armor on my chest.

I have been told I lived during the Middle Ages.  I had a past life reading when I was in high school.  In one of my incarnations, I was a knight and was killed by my fellow men.  They killed me for heresy because I told them about a Vision I saw in the early morning hours.

Interpretation

I will hit the parts of the dream that stand out for me. White on a black background sounds like the 8 ball on a pool table. What that connotes is that maybe you feel “behind the eight ball.” That the dream is expressly confusing black and white areas in different ways makes me wonder if it is a question of what’s right and what’s wrong.

In my world, four is the number of stability. Five in my world represents something being added it to your already stable situation. That you felt smaller and like a jester makes me wonder if you added something to your life recently that put you behind the eight ball, and you’re worried about how it will make you appear to others maybe.

In the Tarot deck, the Fool is a card of naivete and starting out on a journey that you don’t know what is going to happen. The question for me would be something like “have you started out doing something that is an addition to your life that is causing you stress and making you worried about how you will appear to others?”

Clothing is psychological defenses usually in dreams. And this clothing is very defensive. But it is a specific kind of defensiveness. To me, that you dreamt of armor on your chest was the dream’s way of emphasizing protecting your heart.

Specifically, chainmail is more flexible gear that allows you to be protected but still allows you to have movement. I think the dream is giving advice here probably.

Whatever situation you find stressful or being behind the eight ball, your subconscious wants you to defend yourself, but to lend yourself some flexibility to allow you to strike back at the competition. That you expressly look at a digital photo, which is bringing present-day into the Middle Ages, makes me wonder if the above things I’ve stated somehow involve the computer or the internet.

It may well be a past life. The question for me was why is your subconscious connecting your present life to a previous life as a knight in armor? What is there about your situation now where it would be valuable to remember what you learned as a defending Knight?

The thing about the flash of being attacked by other knights for having a vision, I think is your dream’s way of warning you to be careful of what you decide to tell and who you decide to tell close personal information to. You need to be flexibly defensive and not willing to sacrifice yourself because of others disbelief or stupidity.

It should be stated that dreams of knights and royalty in the Middle Ages is very archetypal which indicates this is a deep message. For me, this is probably an issue that you faced in previous lives and are facing once again in this life. The dream is trying to point to an archetypal pattern or a past life where you you dealt with it in a certain way, and the dream wants you to change that certain way.

I suspect you were too passive and maybe too honest to people who were not worthy of your trust. You were accused of heresy and executed in a previous life. You want to be careful about throwing pearls before swine, as Jesus said.

The Savage Giant

images (3)

Dream 475: Slaying evil aggression

A man described the following dream:

I don’t remember much of this dream, but it was so unusual that I’ll post it:
It took place in a large building with a church, and people lived there. Sounds like a convent, but it was mixed sex. There was a giant that oppressed the people, a giant tyrant lol. Now it was my task to kill the giant!

It was one of those dreams in which I can fly and go through walls and ceilings etc. I went through the whole building, from the bottom (crypt) to the top. Eventually there was the confrontation with the giant, in the church part. I flew up to his head, and rammed a big sword in his eye. The giant fell down, I had done my job.

 Interpretation
The giant probably represents the savage masculine archetype. This dream may be about using aggression for good purposes. Flying in the dream means that you are feeling personal power.  A convent or church connotes sacred commitment.
The church indicates that it may be your own sacred duty to subdue excessive aggression within yourself; however, the dream I think gives you high marks for using aggression to eliminate savagery.

Dream 472: We want to take you higher

A woman had the following dream:

“This is one of the unforgettable dreams. From long ago as I feel it has great relevance today. I’m in college. 1990. I’m waiting at night time on football bleachers with several others. We are just waiting, it’s quiet, still. All very calm. I look over at the small family beside me. A mother with and her two children. All bright angel blonde hair with big blue eyes, all wearing glasses which magnified their eyes to huge blue orbs. Sweet, tender kind faces. “Are you afraid? I asked the little boy. “No.” He answered. He was calm and looked anxious almost in anticipation. His mother gently smiled. In my uncertain anxiousness, this brought me comfort. If he was not afraid, then surely there was nothing to fear. Still I waited gazing out into the huge empty football field, as we sat waiting patiently for what God only knew. I glanced over to my left to then notice a ship or craft had landed. A huge white disc, lowering it’s front ramp without sound onto the night lawn. Soon people, ordinary people, humans began to slowly file out slowly off the ramp onto Earth. Individuals to small families. They appeared to have been gone for a while, some 10, 20, 30 years or more years perhaps. Returning from a trip quietly and sullenly as if waking out of a dream yet unmoved as they were gently lead off the craft. There was no rush in their movement. Languid and lilt. As if taking in sights as a new born might. Looking around, taking it in. Soon they approached us. We and the small blonde haired boy were excited. “Did you like it? What was it like?” They seemed unperturbed calm and unexcited. “Yes, it was long time, glad or happy to be back.” (To that affect.)The boy and I looked on anxiously. As brave as I started out I suddenly hesitated. He was not afraid but I was not as so certain. He was ready, I was not so much. He ran over to the craft pulling me with him. “Come on let’s go.” It was he and I who ventured where the silent ship awaited. No one at all to be seen just a lowered ramp entrance where the others had exited. All I recall from that moment was a view of Earth from space. She was lovely and suddenly the globe had become an image of a diagram divided into slices. The ship’s attendant then asked: “What do you see? “In each of the ‘slices’ were planetary issues.
Such as:
War
Famine
Natural Disaster
Diseace
Destruction
Poverty
Prejudices

“What about Peace?” I asked the attendant wearing all black and what appeared to be a black space helmet. I could not see him or his features but I felt a very kind benevolence from him and towards him, though it was definitely all business.

“There will be.” He answered.

That was it. Mission accomplished. (For them) I still had a lingering deep concern in that no longer feeling the excitement I
had started out with but an overwhelming sadness and concern for Earth and the future of humanity.
I suddenly felt the very serious and heavy pressure of responsibility.

I recall the interior of the ship immaculate. Everything was a clean shiny white. Simple. Quiet. A space hum. It seemed once the questioning was over, that was it.
I was free to go.

And that was it as I observed the moments on board. Absorbing what I could. For it was incredibly peaceful and yet not abode but a craft traveling through space and time.

Business, professional, serious and responsible. That was the image that presented. Gentle. Kind. Quiet.
Methodical.

Upon leaving I was escorted to the ramp and lead down onto the green where I was happy to be back on Earth, but feeling older and with a little more kindness gentleness love and concern for this beautiful planet we call “home.”

Thank you~ May your dreams carry you to new destinations filled with hope and inspiration. :)”

Observations regarding the dream

This is a very “big” dream that is meaningful and was important for your future life course. I would only add that the children were the Divine Child archetype.

The Divine Child is the part of us that contains our hopes, desires, and aspirations for the future. The little boy would go more with your actions. The Divine Child archetype frequently has blonde hair and blue eyes in Western cultures.

What is being played out here, is your subconscious is laying out the design of what you could do in the future. It obviously wanted you to travel far and to experience realms that you could only imagine.

A UFO or spaceship is a mandala of divine possibility. The white is the most spiritual color there is. It is shaped in a round disc which is a symbol of the Soul. Your subconscious was laying out the pattern it wanted you to follow in your life.

I believe the man with the black helmet was your soul or subconscious talking directly to you to make sure you got the message.

What does a centaur, lioness, avian, Pegasus and nuclear explosion mean in a dream?

wild natural woman

Dream 470: Controlling My Instincts

A man posted the following question:

“I am posting for a friend, because when she recalls her dreams, they usually mean something. They use imagery, symbolism and metaphors.

In the first part of her dream, she had to contain a room full of snakes without hurting any. That’s about it…

In the second part of the same dream, she was on ‘Earth’ but there were human-animal hybrids that imprisoned and ruled over humanity. They were protected from the ‘end’.

The moon was to collide with the planet, but as it hit, the sky flickered like a hologram, and the world leaders announced a failed nuclear detonation. They were trying to destroy the planet but blame something else.

The hybrids stand out to me:
-Avians
-A strange form of centaur that was half horse, but half were-wolfish
-A form of pegasi that had bat wings
-Human-Lioness hybrids. White/blonde

Interpretation

The first part of a dream sequence usually announces what the dream is going to be about. Snakes almost invariably represent change. What is interesting about this is that she’s not worried about the snakes hurting her, she wanted to be careful to not hurt the snakes.

A snake is considered, broadly speaking, to be an animal. Animals usually represent our instincts. It is interesting that she wants to be careful not to damage her instincts which is unusual and bodes well for her, I believe. As we treat ourselves so we tend to treat others, and I would suspect that she is a very considerate type of person. So the dream is announcing that this sequence is going to be about change and how she handles her instincts, making sure not to damage her groundedness.

One can’t help but like the hybrids part of this dream. It represents instincts that are well-controlled.

In fact, I believe this series of dreams is all about her concern over controlling her instincts. Fortunately, I think the dream delivers mostly good news on this account. She is a very diverse person with well-controlled instincts. Let me take them one by one.

The Avians are like birds and usually represent freedom, i.e., “free as a bird.” Freud was right on a few things, and one of the things he was right about is that a horse usually goes with female sexual power. But this is a centaur, which is half human, which would normally indicate that her sexuality instincts are usually well-controlled; however, this centaur is half-horse and half were-wolf-like. That would indicate that she is worried about the wild side of her sexuality.

I think of the pegasi as a magical flying horse. So this would probably represent the magical power of sensuality.

The human lioness image is powerful. It is always good to have powerful animals in your dream. She has a lot of psychic energy that can be used for good. A lioness is Queen of the Jungle and actually does all of the hunting while the King of the Jungle sleeps. To me this would imply that she has a solid work ethic and maternal instincts.

The white & blonde color is interesting. White is the most spiritual color, while blonde is considered to be an ideal quality of the feminine and Divine Child in Western culture.

The Moon is usually thought of as going with subconscious emotional impulses that are somewhat in the dark. The Moon is literally colliding with the Earth which is a way of saying what she fears what will happen if her subconscious instincts are actualized, i.e., what will happen if her instincts become grounded and actualized in reality.

The Hologram is interesting. Any piece of a hologram will reflect the whole hologram. So in some sense a hologram is indestructible. I think the dream is trying to reassure her that her world doesn’t come to an end because of subconscious conflicts and change going on in her life.

Fire goes with change because fire changes matter into energy. A nuclear explosion is super fire or super change.

I think part of this involves the dream trying to reassure her that her world doesn’t come to an end if she becomes somewhat more instinctually uninhibited.

The world leaders are the opposite of the instinctive parts of herself. They actually think about destroying the world when they are supposed to be the leaders of the world. In other words, they are so logical that they make no sense. Does this sound like her parents?

This dream is partially a cautionary tale of rationalization and logic going too far, which she will not do because she honors her instincts highly. On the other hand, safe sex should be practiced to prevent a detonation.

What other dream interpretation books would I recommend?

I received the following email from a woman:

“Good evening, your book Dreams: Guide to the Soul has been so helpful in my journey in dream interpretation. It’s hard to find informative books that aren’t simply dream dictionaries and really relate to the subconscious. Can you guide me to any other resources to further my education in this? Thank you!”

The following was my response:

“Dear Mary,

I personally like Robert Johnson’s Owning Your Own Shadow because it is short. It is the best summary of that archetype that I’ve seen. That archetype is critical to change, of course. His other books are good too.

I like the old Jungian analysts. I would recommend anything by Marion Woodman or John Sandford. I have attended a workshop with Marion Woodman and she gives a good woman’s perspective of it all while Robert Johnson gives more the male viewpoint.

If you want to learn the basic archetypes, there’s nothing better than studying the Greek gods and goddesses. The best source of this which is related to Jungian psychology and dream work are books by Jean Shinoda Bolen Gods in Every Man and Goddesses in Every Woman. I went to a workshop by her and sent her a question by mail. She answered me with a two-page letter about how I might get over my multiple sclerosis.

In a different vein, I will be publishing MS Mission Remission: Healing Multiple Sclerosis Against All Odds sometime in 2018. It details all of the 20 or so approaches I used to reach the critical point of sending the MS into remission.

What might a young girl in a dream mean?

top_100_cute_girls_hairstyles_004

Dream Post 466: My hopes and dreams

People in my practice frequently describe a young girl, from ages say five to ten years old, who keeps appearing in their dreams. They are typically mystified by this. It is especially disturbing to fully heterosexual men when they dream of kissing them or having even closer intimacy.

Welcome to the Divine Child archetype. It is usually a girl because women tend to go more with emotional parts of your mind. (At the first level, each character represents a part of your psyche.) The Divine Child is usually a young girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. The reason for this is that those physical features are the stereotypical ideal feminine features in Western culture.

Other cultures may have different idealized features. For example, Hispanic cultures tend to idealize dark hair with brown eyes.

Sex in dreams at the first level represents different parts of your mind integrating. Kissing or being intimate with the Divine Child, in this case, represents integrating your hopes/dreams into your life with your behavior, actions and emotions. The younger the Divine Child in the dream, the less developed is a particular hope or dream that you have.

Enlightenment Is In the Darkness

Most times you have to find what is causing the darkness…

“Enlightenment consists not merely in the seeing of luminous shapes and visions, but in making the darkness (occult) visible. The latter procedure is more difficult and therefore, unpopular.”

What does a white buffalo symbolize in a dream?

dakotalegend

Dream 460: Give me a spiritual home “Where the Buffalo Roam”

The Native Americans so the Buffalo as a sign of abundance because it supplied almost all of their needs. The color white is the most spiritual color as it is a combination of all the other colors. The Lakota Indians saw the White Buffalo as uniting all the different races of man. The White Buffalo was always a very sacred symbol that was a good omen of good times to come.

What is a numinous dream?

pyramid-wallpaper

Dream 456: Going down is going up in this pyramid

A woman had the following dream:

“I was standing in a dark empty space and realized my feet felt numb. I tried to feel for the energy around my right foot when suddenly I felt a strong burst of energy shoot downward from the heel of my foot. I looked down and saw a square shaped opening had appeared beneath me and I was slipping down into it. The walls were lined with red brick and I could see it extended far into the darkness.

I knew somehow that this space was the inside of a pyramid. It was made of red brick, shaped upside-down, and empty inside. I had entered through the square shaped base and was sliding down its wall, the space grew more narrow as I neared the endpoint.

I woke up before I reached the bottom, but not too long after seeing the red pyramid beneath my right foot I had a second occurrence.

This time it was energy projected from the front of my left foot. I was floating in outer space looking down into a galaxy. I could see flickering stars far off in the distance and below me was the swirled gases and random debris turning on its axis. I looked around me into the darkness and thought: “this is where all life came from.” I knew I was in the place where all energy is exchanged, transformed, and recycled. I had the thought that all living things knew this place in the back of their minds and are always linked to it throughout our whole lives.”

Interpretation

In some ways it sounds more like an experience than a dream. If I were to interpret it like a dream, I would say that there’s probably a good balance between your consciousness and your subconscious as energy shoots from both your left foot and your right foot. The right usually goes with the conscious energy while the left usually goes with subconscious energy.

I would say that the reason the pyramid sticks in your mind and is very vivid is because this image is very archetypal. I believe it is an upside-down Egyptian pyramid. It is archetypal because the pyramids are images fixed in our subconscious because of their importance to mankind in history and their meaning symbolically involving power and death.

We talk about there being a pyramid of needs with the most basic needs being at the base of the pyramid and the higher needs such as self-actualization being at the top of the pyramid; however, this is an upside down pyramid. The reason for that is movement downward means that you are going down further into your subconscious usually. The dream turns positively cosmic when the energy shoots from your left (subconscious) side.

What the dream is saying is that you reach toward your goal of self-actualization more by delving into your subconscious. The reason it is red is because red goes with strong emotion. So I think the dream is reflecting that you are experiencing personal growth and self-actualization by delving deeper into your emotions and self-actualization subconscious needs.

Your dream sounded like a numinous (I like to say luminous) vision dream which has a sacred larger than life feel to it. In Carl Jung’s world, having a numinous dream experience was always a big deal and significant.

What does the negative Queen represent in a dream?

evilqueen

Dream 437: The Evil Queen

I have had very vivid and odd dreams every night for the past month. Yet when I awake I usually only remember pieces. I was standing in front of my ex husband. We were talking as I began to think in my head about our split. Reminding myself of the monster he became…the reason I left. I used to have no voice when in his presence so I was reminding myself before I made eye contact.

I reached in my pocket though and pulled out a seemingly endless stack of large bills. He put his hands out and one by one I placed the bills in his Palm. It never ended. I remember thinking what about my needs. If I give it all I’ll have nothing. He never stopped me and I never spoke up.

I looked down and Instantly fell to my knees. I quickly place my hands out to catch This large Brown ribbed vase. I was unable to catch it in time. The glass broke shattering and slicing my right Index finger. I remember specifically the feel of glass shards across my fingers.

I looked up to see a woman I have not yet the chance to meet.  She had black curly hair old style framed glasses. She had a dark-tinted color to her, like not a normal color. She just stared blankly at me. It was creepy, almost like I felt I was in trouble.

I heard “Watch her–When she appears pay close attention to her.” Then I woke up. I’ve yet to understand this one. A lot of my dreams are about money or past lives, even god. I’m not sure why the oddities, but would greatly appreciate any Insight.

Interpretation

Money usually represents energy in dreams. He was a viper who took all your energy and never reciprocated.

The woman in your dreams is negative emotions. Jung called her the queen or the negative mother complex. She resides in everyone’s subconscious.

The queen is all about power and control. Her attitude toward you is capricious and arbitrary.

Her motto is “ask not what I can do for you–ask what you can do for me now.” She looks very strong, but will wilt unless the odds are overwhelmingly in her favor.

The savage masculine will aggravate and make her stronger. It sounds like you were married to a savage masculine man. The only part of the psyche that has any success against her is the heroic masculine–which usually involves being dedicated to taking positive actions that focus mainly, if not exclusively, on your needs and not making any excuses about it nor apologizing for looking after your needs.

I think the brown vase falling and cutting your finger right before the queen appears was done to emphasize that the queen is the emotional part of yourself that is hurting you. When glass is breaking in a dream, that usually means that the emotional impact of something is finally fully reaching you.  Her favorite putdown is “who do you think you are.”

I hope this is helpful.

What do wealthy men, hungry children and a Roman Catholic Cardinal or Bishop mean in a dream?

7ec6b0fcf76fad77.jpg.cf
Dream 435: The Corrupt World
A man had the following dream:

“I was asleep, I seen my body being wrapped in threads like a web or a cocoon that surrounded me and strapped me to the bed. I watched it happening as if I was out of my body viewing it from above. Then I slipped back into my body and was struggling to break free of the webbing. I tore a small hole with my fingers and slowly but surely stretched it enough to make my way out. It stuck to me, it was very adhesive. It stretched along with my movements as I made my way and as I walked strands held onto me, and then finally the thick threading snapped and dissolved.

My bedroom was gone. I was in a large city in ruins, it was dark and smoldering, most of the structures had tumbled to the ground. I could tell that I was in a large building that had fallen but some of the walls and archways were still standing. Block and dirt and dust and pure destruction was seen as far as I could see. One doorway stood unscathed, and from this doorway came a group of men in suits, but they no longer had a human appearance. Instead of having heads, their necks branched out into rectangular shapes like the ends of beef jerky. Their flesh was the same, only I thought it was made from bacon or ham and other meats from swine. (they had been living high on the hog)

They were dumb and confused and stumbled around bumping into things. I found a few tables, gathered each of the creatures, strapped them down so they couldn’t move. As I was tying the knots I noticed bubbles pooling together on the doorways and walls. These sweltering pockets were swirling with multiple colors mixed with red, purple and yellow. They looked that of amniotic sacs, veins grew upon the sacs and pulsated. I watched them burst, giant larvae-like creatures incased in fluids gushed out onto the floor. They were the size of my arms at first; I watched as they twisted around and grew into children the size of nine-year-olds with a full head of hair and beautiful multi-colored eyes. They were wet, their skin was a dark gray and blue tone. They were holding their stomaches, their ribs showed like they had suffered from starvation.

Their attention was drawn to the center of the room where I had strapped the meaty beings to the tables. Some could walk but some crawled, but they all slowly made their way to the center of the room and ripped into the creatures. The creatures didn’t have eyes or mouths but I could see their suffering in the way they moved about each time a child bit into them. Suddenly everything rattled and it sounded like a wrecking ball was hitting walls. As I lifted my gaze I could see the remains of structures being knocked to pieces and the floor shook as a giant made his way through the rubble. He was at least fifteen foot tall, dressed in a red bishop’s robe, his facial appearance was stretched about in a demonic nature with black eyes and pockets of dark swelling veins showing on the outside of his skin. His hat stood several feet high and was made of gold, diamonds and other gems that people had obsessed over.

As the giant made his way over to us, his attention was on the children the entire time. I tried to pull them away from their feast but they were so desperate to consume the men they paid no attention; the ones I tried to grab and force to leave just pulled away from me and latched back onto the meat of men. As the bishop entered he grabbed the children one or two at a time, revealing his razor-like teeth and chomped their heads from their bodies, then tossed them to the floor. I tried to stop him but he swatted me, I tumbled backwards across the room and slammed against a wall and then to the ground. As he made his way toward me I heard a vicious growling above me. As I looked up drool splashed across my body and I seen a two-headed dog on a caved in portion of the roof, snarling at the bishop. It launched at the demonic giant, it was the size of a bear but the giant kept slapping it to the ground.

More dogs arrived, all of them with two-heads, all of them enormously large. The beasts pulled the bishop to the ground, ripping at his arms, pulling at his cloth and one had latched upon his throat, but then they began falling to his sides. He had grabbed a piece of twisted metal from the building’s fallen structure and was stabbed at the dogs. He bit them just as hard and ferociously as they were biting him, gashing one another’s flesh, blood dripping from open wounds and splashing about. In the darkest corner of the room I noticed a spear leaning against the wall. It had what appeared to be hieroglyphic markings on it. I couldn’t make out the shapes or the meaning of the markings but it was of an ancient origin. I grabbed the spear and cautiously approached the battle but by this time there was only one dog alive. The bishop knelt over the beast and held it to the floor by the neck as it growled, barked and kicked its legs around trying to squirm free to attack again. The bishop glanced at me with one hand raised high above him with the twisted metal tight within his grip. As he took a breath and gritted his teeth together, but before he could swing down to destroy the beast I ran the spear through his side and upward into his body. His body instantly became limp and he fell forward, releasing the dog. The beast and I shared a slight moment as it looked at me and with trembling hands I stared back at it. He was startled as if he heard something and ran towards an opening in the room to leave; the room filled with light until I was blinded and then into complete darkness. I could hear the dog’s heads barking as I as woke up. Even for a few seconds after I opened my eyes I could still hear it.

I was thirsty. I turned on my bathroom light and then went to the kitchen. I opened the refrigerator door, pulled out a soda, as I closed the door and turned to walk back to my room something dark and tall was next to me, it blocked the light coming from my bedroom and it held no definite shape. I stepped around the black mass and made my way back to my room. I looked back to see if I had really seen something or if my eyes had played tricks on me as they may have been adjusting in the dark after being exposed to the light in the fridge. The mass was gone just as quickly as it had appeared. I often remember my dreams in great detail and sometimes feel like something is showing me things that’s hard to fully make out. The dreams I have are often this dark, this beautiful and, this twisted. I am an aspiring writer and I do write fiction, so I don’t mind it at all. In fact, most of my screenplay ideas have come from strange clips or scenes I’ve had that were in great details. I’ve even had dreams that seemed as if they continued from a previous dream, as if it’s showing the next scene or vision to me.

Was there really a black mass? Maybe there was. Did I conjure up these images and this story from real world experiences or did something show me the dream? In my opinion, it might be a happy blend between the two working together for reasons unknown. Maybe my life experiences and imagination lets them in to play, and maybe they aren’t playing at all. When I analyze my own thoughts and personal fears, I will say this: I fear a famine is coming and the world will be thrown into a period of destruction and turmoil that most people can’t even fathom. I fear the government and the 1% think they know what they are doing and they believe they will be safe from these disasters but no one is safe. I think that the Vatican and Catholicism is in fact an evil empire that has had its grip on society and the way things are ran in this world for centuries and they will one day see that they are not the one that will decide the fate of man. I think that life will find a way to continue, but like the sad and hungry children in my dream, they will be full of desperation and their willingness to survive will stop at nothing. I have no clue what the two-headed beasts may have been but it saved my life, and many of then children survived thanks to them. Hideous or not, they done their duty and were our guardians. Take it with a grain of salt, but I feel that the symbolic images and story here, is indeed a fate mankind may one day have to live through. I feel like this dream could be translated in so many ways and am interested in what people have to say about it.”

Interpretation

I believe this is not only a big dream; it is a gigantic dream. It is talking about your personal transformation, the challenges faced in the world, and your possible role in it.

The first part obviously describes you being in a cocoon and escaping from the cocoon. The implication is that you’ve gone through a metamorphosis. Your worldview has been totally deconstructed, which is evidenced by the destroyed buildings an wreckage surrounding the situation.

The next part of the dream is all about the wealthy financiers. They are made from the meat of swine which says a lot about your feelings towards them. They carry maggots which become children. The implication is that the children are relegated by them to feeding on their waste products.

The children are ravenous beings because they have been starved for so long and literally want to eat the swine wealthy. A representative of the church, which I believe is a Roman Catholic Bishop or Cardinal because of the way you described the vestments and attire. You seem to see the church as involved in fending off the children to support the wealthy.

The dream was very archetypal in that you get a spear with hieroglyphics on it. It is like an ancient sacred weapon. You saved the last two headed dog/bear. Animals are usually the dreamer’s instincts.

It is your instinct to be fiercely loyal and protective–strong like a bear and loyal and protective like a dog. The dog being two-headed indicates that you put double the value on being loyal and protective.

In this dream you use your heroic masculine to save the protective instinctive Guardians that save the innocent/helpless from the evil and vile bureaucracy which oppresses the weak and rewards the wealthy.

I think this dream speaks rather well of your intentions. The question is “how accurate is this depiction of reality?”

What do Tigers, trucks, kitchens, upstairs and a leash mean in a dream?

widescreen_tiger-wide

Dream 429: Keeping My Shadow on a Leash

A woman had the following dream:

“I don’t remember all of the dream but it was a tiger in my dream.  The tiger was already like a pet in the dream, the tiger was already a part of the house.  I think I was cooking fish or salmon.    When I went downstairs with the food, the tiger was following me and looking strange with his mouth.  It scared me so I ran upstairs to my family.

I was telling them, “okay, we got to get rid of this tiger because I don’t feel safe anymore.” So the Tiger followed me up the steps and went into my closet and fell on my brother that is deceased and my oldest brother’s talking.  They went into the next room, and when my deceased brother came out, he said it won’t happen again.  He said, “I promise this won’t happen ever again about the tiger” as if he were the one who brought the tiger there, but then tiger was gone.  Then I was outside, I was like near a road.  A truck went by and, lo and behold, it was a tiger laying on the back of the truck….

Interpretation

Animals usually represent our instincts in dreams. A tiger is a very powerful symbol. It usually is good to have powerful animals in your dreams because it means you have a lot of instinctive energy in your subconscious.

This tiger may represent the shadow side of your instincts to some degree, but it is a very well-controlled Shadow. You have it on a leash. I believe part of the concern is you don’t want to feed the energy of the Shadow for fear it might get out of hand and harm you.

A house can represent the dreamer to some extent because it is a framework out of which you live. When you move from upstairs to downstairs you’re basically moving from your brain to the kitchen which is basically a place of nurture and creativity. You expressly do not want to feed the Tiger. You don’t want to give more energy to your Shadow side even though it’s well-controlled.

I am guessing that at least one of the brothers represents the heroic masculine. This is good news because it’s used to represent a spiritual dimension since one of them is deceased. Your heroic masculine archetype, the part of you the does helpful and positive things for yourself and others, apologizes for bringing the spirit of the tiger to your consciousness to the point where it scares you. One might say it scares you to death almost.

The dream ends with the deceased brother promising you that it won’t happen again. But you know the way Shadows are, they just don’t go easy. You see the tiger pass by on the truck after you think you’ve gotten rid of it.

The dream is reassuring you that you can’t just get rid of your shadow. You need your shadow, particularly in situations like work which I think is represented by the truck because trucks usually do work-related things. Your Shadow is also your get-up-and-go, it just needs contact with other parts your personality so it doesn’t get out of control.

What is the collective unconscious (subconscious) in dreams?

f50357747cb79787bae1fea87c3f8f65

Dream Image 414: The collective unconscious or collective subconscious is the same thing as the Akashic records. I believe every thought that man has ever had is in the collective subconscious. This idea is virtually the same as the idea of Akashic records which are described in the poster above. It seems like there is a sort of consciousness internet if you will that transmits images to people’s dreams.

What does my fat phony Queen like mother in law in a wheelchair in a dream mean?

tmp_6796-girl-smile-wheelchair1180110502

Dream 397: Time to Get Real

A woman dreamed that her 94 year old mother-in-law who is in a wheelchair suddenly got up and started walking around very fast to show the dreamer that she actually could move and walk very well. The mother in law in real life weighed 300 pounds and was morbidly and pathologically psychologically dependent upon her son. She had difficulty walking mainly because of her weight.

The dreamer thought she was a phony and that her mother-in-law knew that she knew her mother-in-law was being phony. The mother in law for some reason had been amazingly alert and coherent lately.

My Interpretation to the Dreamer

Taking the dream at different levels, your subconscious is saying both that she is phony and that you yourself have to be phony to be able to put up with her. At a deeper level, it may be trying to reassure you that you are fine, that you are physically and psychologically healthy, in spite of her antipathy towards you.

Her being very alert is interesting and something I can never explain. Both personally and in the lives of my clients, people who are on a long downward course health wise will often have a brief intense period of emotional/cognitive clarity and physical vitality before sinking into a clasped physical and mental disrepair and even death.

I thought this mother-in-law had characteristics of the Queen archetype that Carl Jung describes– domineering, controlling, selfish, egocentric, and wanting to dominate the household situation. The dreamer confirmed most of my insights.

What does it mean when you find money in a barn for the family you babysit for?

Getting Energy from Doing What You Love
Getting Energy from Doing What You Love

Dream 390: Old MacDonald had a Barn Full of Energy

A woman had the following dream:

“I dreamed that the family I babysit for (I am friends with the mother) had lost like a friend or family member and a very large sum of cash was owed/given to them. The family drove me to the place to pick it up because they needed help getting it. We go to this farm looking space and I walk into the barn/ware-house type building. It was only being lit from the natural lighting coming from outside but it was enough for me to see this huge trunk in the middle of the room that i needed to use to put the money in for the family, there was huge wads of cash and single bills scattered about the floor. I filled up the trunk as much as I could, and left the rest there, as I made my way back to the family’s car. Just because I was the only one in there taking the money for the family, it felt in a way like I was stealing, but i was only doing what I was told to do, I think I felt odd being the one having to go get the money instead of one of the family members doing it themselves, but they said they needed me to help get it for them. When I got to the car, a man who was following me, walked up to us (tan, dark hair and handsome; wearing overalls), said sorry he was not in the room with me to help out and he had work elsewhere to do, and he brought me the remaining cash that was for the family. Then we all drove away.”

My Interpretation

In dreams, money is energy. The barn is a natural and I want to say innocent place where your instincts (animals) are nurtured.

It sounds like you want to give all of the instinctive energy you can to the family you babysit for and want to give even more, but hold back wondering if you should, but then say it is okay because that is what I am supposed to do.

You get the energy free of charge from the universe by doing what you do for this family and you even get paid for doing it (no reason to feel guilty about being paid). The heroic action part of yourself feels that you could give even more energy to this family because it is nothing but good. What a country!

The tall, dark and handsome man is the representation of your own heroic masculine archetype which is often the initiator of therapeutic action, of things that are good for you. This part wholeheartedly wants you to feel uninhibited in giving personal energy to the family (the energy of the universe is supplied to you without your asking for it and this is a good thing for you and for the family).

What does the two of swords mean in the Tarot deck of cards?

Caught Between Two Lovers

tmp_8216-two_swords-485812409

Feeling Like a Fool

Dream 387: Caught Between Two Lovers

A man had the following dream: “I dreamt a lot but there’s one particular part I can’t find an answer to. I saw a tarot card, beautiful card. It was of a queen wearing white sitting she had a crescent above her head, porcelain face, and by her side were these green cartoonish creatures that looked non threatening yet I’m sure they could if wronged or ordered to.

My Interpretation for Him

At first, I thought you were talking about the queen of swords in the Tarot deck. However, the imagery you described is closer to the two of swords. This part of the dream probably goes with emotions as women in dreams tend to represent an emotional part of your psyche.

The image in the Tarot deck in the two of swords is a woman completely dressed in white with a white blindfold who is holding two swords with her arms crossed across her chest. The thought is that she is stuck in the middle and can’t make a decision and is afraid to move or to choose one of the options. The crescent appears on this card as a new moon. The moon tends to go with the subconscious and it could mean that you have some dawning awareness or insight in your subconscious.

The thought would be that possibly you have to choose between two relationships and feel unable to choose because you are going to have to hurt someone in making the choice. The green creatures could be involved as they may represent money, or marijuana, or a condensation of both. It also could be having to choose between a relationship and money or marijuana.

As always, I am interpreting the dream totally blind and I’m presenting possible options.

Why am I constantly dreaming about a girl I loved since I was 12 years old?

Looking for Emotion From the Past
Looking for Emotion From the Past

Dream 385: I Want to Recapture How I Was Emotionally in My First Relationship with a Girl

When I was 12 I fell in love with a girl at first sight(right when I looked in her eyes) , and her dad was the first one to teach me how to kick a soccer ball when I was just 7(I’m really good, could play pro if I want ). She has a lot of reason why I am spiritual and pay attention to my dreams. Problem is when I was in high school, we would fight and I would ignore her and not look at her. We aren’t really on talking terms like we were when I was younger and I don’t follow her on social media.

The reason I bring this up is because she has been in my dreams all the time, and 90% of the time I can’t look at her or talk to her. Other 10% is amazing (dancing, doing things together , kissing etc) but 90% of the time she’ll be in my dream and won’t be able to look at her. I want to look at her and kiss her, but in my dreams I feel like I have subconsciously put it in there that I can’t speak or talk to her.

Just recently I was in my dreams teaching a yoga class with just two other people and she showed up to do the class and while I was doing the yoga poses she was doing them too and we were looking at each other but neither of us could say anything to each other. She was sort of looking at me funny snd i just looked her and kept going…

If I knew I was dreaming I would of kissed her right there, lol. Just yesterday I had another one where we were in the car together in the backseat and I tried talking to her but something wouldn’t let me. It must of been a 15 minute car ride and we just stared at each other , it seems like she can’t say anything to me either.

This is just two examples out of the more than 100x this has happened with her in my dream. What do you think is the best thing to do? I’m stubborn. If she’s meant to be in my life the universe will have me run into her like it usually does with her, so I feel like I should wait for that.

Do you think she experiences the same dreams?

My Interpretation

The dreams may be about her and having a relationship with her, but only you would know that since that is the second level of dream interpretation where only you have enough to detail to determine that.

At the first level, I think you probably have idealized that early relationship and want to emotionally be the way you were with her when things were good in future relationships. My money is on this is a fantasy about an idealized relationship from the past that your subconscious wants you to learn from so that you learn the lesson and look for the right relationship and act appropriately in the future.

This is based only on the structure of the dream and only you can determine what interpersonal value it has if any. Each character in the dream represents a part of your psyche at the first level with men going with your actions and women going with your emotions.

My thought is there was something about the way you were emotionally with this girl that you were developing that was not finished and you want to emotionally change yourself to find the ideal relationship. As such, in your mind she probably represents an ideal woman or anima. It is a big dream about how you should be in a relationship.

To answer your questions at the end, it is possible she's having dreams about you. If that is the case, I would see it more as a sign that the universe was trying to get the two of you together. I do like your idea that if it was meant to be, the universe will conspire to have the two of you meet again.

What does a dark robed figure and a group of 12 people mean in a dream?

tmp_16088-07_don_giovani_m1302493080

Dream 384:Do not judge me because I do not follow you blindly

This is a statue that’s in Prague, however, I once had a dream with these beings in it that looked a lot like this. There were about 12 of these faceless robed beings sitting around a table in a large stadium. Thousands, maybe millions of people gathered there to see them but no one spoke a word. Everyone there was marked. They were waiting on the newcomers to come down the aisle and pledge to them but I left the building. Some people I knew were outside roaming around as if they were lost and when I yelled out to get their attention the town began to crumble. I could then see these faceless hooded beings watching us from the tops of the buildings as they swayed. Their followers screamed in pain as wire ran through them, lifting their bodies into the sky. So for me, when I see this photo of this beautiful looking sculpture/statue, I remember that dream. The town twisted like Inception and became a dark maze for us to travel through, trying to find our way out. — I was on the right path and suddenly knew where to go but then I woke up.

My Interpretation

The dark robed figure is a classic shadow symbol. The number 12 is significant. If it were my dream I would think of the 12 disciples or 12 people being on a jury, which would make me wonder if religious or legal issues were involved, whether you are facing some challenges on these levels.

If I’m reading the dream right, it sounded like the people were marked, but you were not and you left. The followers met with a grizzly fate while you escaped.

For me, the dream I believe is predicting that you will avoid bad outcomes by not being a mindless follower of cults whether that be of a religious or a political nature.

This is a complex dream that could be taken at different levels. The question for me is whether it is describing what is currently happening, or whether it is giving advice about the future or both.

What if you have a series of dreams close together? Can these dreams all be about the same thing?

Dreams can bring out the warrior in your woman
Dreams can bring out the warrior in your woman

Dream 377: I have an idea, I think it is right, and I can do it myself, thank you

A woman had the following series of dreams:

“I had a series of vivid dreams of late.
1. Brushing my hair and clumps of hair fall out asking with pieces of my scalp, which starts to bleed.
2. Surprisingly didn’t know I was pregnant until I went into labor (luckily at a hospital) I end up running from staff to give birth privately in an unused room alone, without help.
3. I make candy and have one recipe I’ve used so often that I know it by heart. In this dream as I tell someone the recipe, a complete stranger shows up in the doorway to insist that my ingredients are wrong. For some reason I can’t let it go, I just keep arguing why I’m right.”

My Interpretation

I love series of dreams. Frequently a series of dreams that occur closely together may be talking about the same issues. I view what is described below as a consolidation of the information.

1. Losing hair can mean worries about having the power to do something. This is something a little different because you were actually losing pieces of your scalp with it. To me, I was wondering if you initially had concern whether you had the right idea about something.

2. Having a baby can be symbolic of starting a new project, a new idea, new venture, etc. Insisting on having the baby alone may actually be advice from your subconscious to pursue the project, idea, or venture alone without other people disrupting the idea.

3. You have a sweet idea of how to nurture others (candy) that you have carried for a long time. You are convinced about the rightness of the idea and can defend it to others (the argument with the stranger).

Dream Healing 376: Mythical Name Helps Tie Into Archetypal Energy

After I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 24 years ago, I started in therapy with a Jungian dream analyst. This changed my life because I learned to tap into archetypal energies. The name was given to me by a Native American in a dream was Life Force Dancer. I emblazoned this emblem on a T-shirt. This name was symbolic of the combination of energies that would help send my multiple sclerosis (MS) into remission. This will be explained in my coming book Mission Remission

What does being covered with earth and merry-go-rounds mean in a dream?

Having too much fun can make you dizzy
Having too much fun can make you dizzy

Dream 368: The World Goes Round in Circles

A young woman had the following dream:

“Like I found myself laying partially in the ground in some very beautiful moss carpeted forest. In the ground meaning I was buried just beneath the surface as if the ground dirt and moss was my bed/blanket. And it felt amazing like I woke up feeling at home partially inside the earth. That was one piece. In another segment I awoke (in my dream) to find myself on a merry go round in some park. The merry go round was already spinning quite fast but I wasn’t dizzy because my perspective was looking within the merry go round. But then I looked up and to the side as if to view the park and immediately my balance was thrown off and my perspective changed and I got really dizzy just as you would if you were on a fast spinning one. It was just very bizarre to me that in my dream I could change perspectives like this and actually feel and see the world around the merry go round spinning and it physically felt as though I was on it.”

My Interpretation

The dream starts out by saying in the most explicit way possible that you are very well grounded. Being on the merry-go-round is interesting. A merry-go-round is a circle. A circle is the best symbol we have of the soul. Things that are in an amusement park, like merry-go-rounds, are usually seen as you’re having fun or entertainment in life.

The dream gives very strong advice. You must keep your perspective on what is close to you and avoid looking outside for fun as it will only make you confused and dizzy.

What is the Divine Child archetype in dreams?

tmp_11533-divine-child-819252736

Dream 367: Giving the Divine Child archetype some spiritual courage
A young man had the following dream in his own words:

“I was walking beside a girl in a part of my dream last night. She was very sweet. As we were walking into a building I felt a presence behind her.

I looked back and there was a woman dressed in dark holding a gun to her.

I put my hand on the spine of the girl I was beside and humbly whispered ‘in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.’

Nothing more

Nothing less

And in that moment a light flashed over the girl with the gun and she put it down and said in a similar tone as mine when I spoke. She said ‘thank you.’

I smirked at her in a loving but strong way and walked the girl into the building she was going into.”

Interpretation

Assuming that the girl was a child, it was probably the Divine Child archetype. The Divine Child carries all our hopes, dreams and wishes for the future, like Jesus Christ did. It often is a blue-eyed blonde-haired little girl between the ages of 3 and 11. It can be other physical features, but these are the most frequent in our culture.

The girl as a Divine Child archetype would represent positive emotions and hoped for plans for the future. Women usually represent an emotional part of the dreamer. A woman with a gun is shadow aggressive/negative emotions.

The dreamer put his hand on her spine and say something very spiritual. The dream is saying that strong spirituality helps him stand up to negative emotions, it helps him have more spine.

The dreamer in the dream is acting as the heroic masculine which is usually the part of the personality that is involved in healing. It takes the action necessary to heal the person or make them better. In this case, the heroic masculine is lending his strength to Divine Child emotionality so that his plans can be actualized and come into reality.

When the Heroic Masculine lends it’s strength in performing healing action to the Divine Child, the Self can only say “thank you” that Shadow emotions were overcome and vanquished.

What does breastfeeding a baby mean in a dream?

woman holding baby

Dream 361: It’s Your Baby!

A woman had a dream that another woman had an infant about 6 months old that she wanted the dreamer to breast feed. The woman wanted to give the baby to the dreamer so that the dreamer could feed this 6 month old baby. The dreamer said that in the dream her breasts were full with milk, but when she tried to feed the baby, the baby would not let her feed it and kept reaching for its mother.

Interpretation

When we have a new idea, a new project, or a new creation, people often say, “it’s your baby.” If it were my dream, I would take it as a sign that there is a new idea or project that someone came up with that my subconscious does not want me to nurture, that the new project or idea needs to be owned and nurtured by its creator.

What does Mary the mother of God, trees and walnuts represent in a dream?

tmp_28693-black-walnut-tree-1130788481

Dream 359: Please Listen to Me

A woman reported the following dream:

“I dreamed I was in robes in a desert town in front of a very old brick building. I was pleading with those passing by to believe in what Jesus was trying to teach them. From the crowd someone yelled Mary you don’t know what you’re talking about. My dream then transported me to a more modern home I was in a large desert field with my husband and we were looking at the only thing growing in it which was a Walnut tree. My husband said he wanted to chop it down. He did not want to clean up walnuts every year. (not like him at all by the way) I protested and I got my way.”

Interpretation

It is a very archetypal dream as it invokes Jesus. The dreamer was called Mary who was the mother of Jesus. She was trying to proselytize and spread the Faith. She was not being listened to enough and being heckled by some.

Then the dream moved to the walnut tree. Each person and each living thing in a dream is a part of your mind at the first level of dream interpretation. Her husband would represent an action part of her mind. Males typically go with an action part of the mind while women tend to go more with emotional parts.

Her husband probably represented the part of her that carried out her ideas, the part of her that put her ideas in motion. A tree is a symbol of integration as it opens to the sky, sends roots deep into the earth, and is with you on the surface. It gives off a nutrient which is a walnut which symbolically is the fruit of her integration and higher thoughts.

The dream is drawing a similarity between Mary not being listened to and so many walnuts being wasted each year. It may be that it felt like not enough people were absorbing her message. She could be feeling subconsciously that the valuable life-giving message she had to give that would nurture people (the walnut) was being wasted or ignored too much, that she even may have felt heckled sometimes.

The action part of her that spread these valuable messages, represented by her husband in the dream, gets tired and frustrated with her efforts not being appreciated enough. The dream ends on a positive note as she convinced that action part of herself to carry on in spreading the fruit of her labors.

What does a young woman and an old lady carrying your girlfriend away mean in a dream?

tmp_6868-illusion-878881958Is this a beautiful young woman or an old lady? It depends upon your point of view.

Dream 350: My Love Gets Carried Away

An adult man dreamed that his girlfriend was being carried away by a young woman and an old lady. Something kept him from being able to reach his girlfriend to stop them from carrying her away.

Interpretation

Each character in the dream can represent a part of the dreamer’s mind. Women tend to go with the dreamers emotions. Young attractive women typically represent beautiful emotions.

An old lady is typically thought of as being a Crone which is an archetype of wisdom in old age and experience. An archetype is a pattern of thought that is repetitive throughout human consciousness. This dream is about how the dreamer’s emotions could get carried away.

He seemingly fears losing a lover after he has invested all of his emotions in her. His greatest fear probably is that this would happen and there was nothing he could do about it. It sounds like he is worried about losing the love of his life.

What does a maze mean in a dream? What does a Samarai warrior mean in a dream?

Finding his way to an honorable Center
Finding his way to an honorable Center

Dream 328: Going in circles

A 28 year old man dreamt of seeing a circular maze where he had to find his way to the center of the maze. When he got closer, at each level, there was a heavy door that he could push open to get to the next concentric circle that was closer to the center. When he finally got to the final door, there was a Samurai warrior quietly sitting near the entrance who bowed to him.

Interpretation

This was a beginning of therapy dream. He had this dream during the second session when I asked him to keep track of his dreams. I believe his subconscious was giving us an idea of what therapy would be like for him.

So the dream showed that it would be an inner journey to deeper levels of himself with each level guarded by heavy defenses which were represented by the doors. The doors could be opened which indicated that he could work through his defenses to get to deeper levels. The last and final door was guarded by a Samurai warrior because the dream wanted to assure him that he would still have sufficient defenses even if he went to the very core of himself.

This inner core has a very honorable, respectful, and capable man of action who would remain at his core and would continue to serve him as it had in the past. The Samurai is a variant of the warrior archetype with an emphasis on honor. I believe the dream was trying to prepare him for his inward journey which would be a lot of work in overcoming his resistance and defenses, but would ultimately be successful. The importance of the dream was shown by the fact that the best symbol we have for the soul is a circle because it has no beginning and it has no end.

What do wolves mean in a dream?

Predators on the Chase
Predators on the Chase

Wolves are predators. In dreams they represent the savage predatory influences we are sometimes subjected to. In the dream below, a mother’s protective instinct for her family is expressed.

Dream 301: Protecting my Family

A woman dreamt that a buck deer was leading his family away from wolves chasing his family. As the wolves drew closer, he decided he would have to fight the wolves while his family escaped. He carried on what seemed like an endless fight with the wolves while his family escaped into the thicket.

Interpretation

Dreams like to use words as a concrete pun when it can to get the dreamer’s attention. Why did the dream pick a deer family when it could have picked many other species? I believe it was because a deer family would emphasize how “dear” family was to this mother.

Animals represent the dreamer’s instincts many times. The father buck is a hero. Specifically, he is an instinctive variant of the heroic masculine archetype.

In women, this archetype represents an action part of the dreamer’s mind that she uses to protect loved ones. His motto is “to protect and serve.” It is willing to die to protect loved ones. This archetype is almost always good news when it shows up in dreams.

What this shows is this mother’s endless willingness to fight for her family’s sake. The buck was willing to die if only the family escaped the predatory savage influences that sometimes surface in the world. It is a noble and self-sacrificing archetype responsible for much of the good in the world.

What does a tall dark stranger mean in a dream?

Dream 306 The dreamer was a woman who was looking around a room only noticing there was a lot of other people. She saw a tall dark stranger staring at her. He had bright grey eyes that glowed

Come to Me
Come to Me

in the dark. She initially thought he had a mustache and beard and somewhat disheveled blonde hair so that he looked like a mountain man. A long black trench coat completed his mountain-man appearance. They were locked in a gaze at each other before she finally looked away. She decided that she would not look at the stranger again.

Interpretation
This intense stranger is a form of the shadow archetype with mystical penetrating eyes. He represents a civilized form of the savage masculine. The strength that is almost always in the shadow is conveyed by the strong mountain man image. He is a man of action who is beckoning her to use his strength.

The thought is that he is a civilized natural man of action who is part of her subconscious. This part of her mind is urging her to use his strength to inform her actions so that she is more assertive. The eyes are the windows to the soul and his eyes are light glowing in the dark.

The dream is being mystical. It is implying that using this strength to be assertive will change her soul. Using the strength of the shadow to support positive behavior is called using the shadow in service to the ego.

She will see the light if she follows the dream’s advice. As usual, it is changing the shadow that most affects our behavior. Melding all the archetypes together so that the person functions best results in good mental health.

What does a shadow figure mean in a dream?

Shadow Energy
Shadow Energy

The Shadow is a major dream archetype. It is usually a dark figure in profile or can be a criminal or aggressive stalking figure that either tries to break in to your residence or is pursuing you in some way. We all have a shadow. These contain aggressive impulses and parts of ourselves that we have rejected for now.

The shadow also contains our “get up and go.” it is vital to the personality. Other parts of the personality need to be in contact with the shadow to place appropriate limits on it. By working with the shadow, the other parts of the personality benefit by getting the energy that is in the shadow that can be put to good use.

The following is a dream I had at a critical time that assured me that I would make it through a conflict:

Dream 305: The Caped Crusader

I saw a dark caped figure moving energetically down a hall towards me who seemed mysterious but not threatening. It had the aire almost of an evangelical figure arriving to save us all. I looked at him with awe as I was leaning down to tie my shoe.

Interpretation

This was a numinous or luminous image of the shadow. A numinous or luminous image fills the observer with awe because of its power and is almost sacred in nature. The Savior-moving energy of this dark almost evangelical hero image was to reassure me that I had lots of energy which I would have to use in the adversarial conflict I was in the middle of.

Even the detail of tying my shoes was important. Shoes protect the feet and allow us to get somewhere faster in safety. The feet are supportive of our body.

Tying my shoe meant that I was getting myself together to protect and support myself to get to where I needed to be in this conflict. While it was a high level conflict, I believe this detail was emphasizing the importance of details. Not tying your shoe could impede your progress. Not overlooking a detail in the huge administrative conflict I was involved in was extremely important.

What does a sinking ship mean in a dream?

Overwhelmed by Titanic Emotions
Overwhelmed by Titanic Emotions

Dream 304: The Heroic Masculine Saves Your Ship

Water is emotion and the ocean is the best symbol there is for subconscious emotion. A ship represents how you are navigating your emotions, i.e., how you are keeping your head above water. A ship sinking in a dream usually means the dreamer is not doing well.

Ships have almost always been used to reflect emotional tones. When a political campaign is not doing well and staff start resugning and leaving the candidate, it is often said that “the rats are leaving a sinking ship.” When sudden good fortune comes into someone’s life, it is often said that “their ship has come in.”

The following dream is a good example of this imagery as well as talking about the reassuring role the heroic masculine archetype can take in the dreamer’s subconscious:

Dream 304: Saving My Ship

A young woman dreamt that she was on a sinking ship. A dark-haired man dressed in army gear helped her to not be afraid. She asked him his name so that she would remember him when she woke up. He said his name was Joseph Smith. She remembered this dream for years.

Interpretation

At the first level of dream interpretation each character in the dream represents a part of your psyche. The dark-haired man in the drean is the heroic masculine archetype with spiritual undertones. Let me explain.

The heroic masculine showing up is almost always good news. It is the part of your psyche that is willing to do anything for the dreamer’s own good and especially informs the dreamer’s actions. Soldiers are frequently representative of the heroic masculine simply because they are willing to die for their country.

The heroic masculine motto is “to serve and protect.” I believe he showed himself to the dreamer to reassure her that she had a part of herrself that would always be there to help her out of difficult emotional situations. Water is emotion and the ocean is the best symbol we have of the subconscious.

Her heroic masculine indicated that it was going to be there to save her from sinking into overwhelming emotions. Joseph Smith was the founder of the Mormon religion so this is a very spiritual heroic masculine archetype.

This dream is nothing but good news. The heroic masculine’s reassurance was meant to help her emotionally stabilize. Because it would use the founder of the Mormon religion, it implies that her growing spiritually may help her stabilize emotionally, to keep from sinking and being overcome by emotion.

Yoga, Astral Travel, Buddhists and Dreams

Dream Image 303

I have decided to add to my knowledge of dreams by looking at some Eastern works such as The Astral Plane: Its Scenery, Inhabitants, and Phenomena. I just do not know enough about them. I surmise that they may be another form of dream state, but with the amazing effects of consciousness, may be something more.

Yoga has always been a point of interest to me since I noticed that my multiple sclerosis responded best to this form of exercise. The MS is thankfully in full remission now. I plan to read books like Yoga and Dreams and Dream Yoga to connect my love of dreams with yoga and Eastern concepts.

Tibetan Buddhists also do some amazing things with dreams. I am hoping that adding a more solid knowledge of these practices will lead to epiphanies of insight. For example, although they do not conceptualize it this way, to me it sounds like the Buddhists sometimes actually try to talk to the archetypes in their dreams. Interesting…

The Wounded Healer

Much of Life Is a Healing Process
Much of Life Is a Healing Process

Dream 295:An adult man dreamed that he was a white healer. He had healing balls of energy that appeared in his hands which he could use to heal others. When he touched the patient, the energy was transmuted to the healed in a dazzling display of spiritual/physical power. He then dreamed that he healed himself.

Interpretation

The Wounded Healer is a major archetype, a pattern of thought that recurs in many people’s dreams throughout the ages. White is the most spiritual color . Circular and round objects often represent the soul since they have no beginning and no end.

The dream is all about healing. The dream implies that by healing others, the dreamer will heal himself; and by healing himself, the dreamer will heal others. This model is essentially the root of self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous, i.e., someone who had previous experience being wounded like you were was more likely to be empathic and knowledgable.

What Does a Fox Mean in Dreams?

A White Spiritual Fox
A White Spiritual Fox

Dream Image 294: I thought I would explain what my namesake means in a dream. First off, animals represent our instinctive drives. A fox is a wily cunning strategist who thinks outside the box. As such, native indigenous people often associated the Fox with the trickster archetype.

The trickster is a major archetype or pattern of thought in dreams. He typically makes impossible situations work by going outside what has been officially authorized. He bends the formal rules to satisfy impossible sometimes dictatorial expectations, i.e., he/she is tricky.

He is a clever sharp intelligent playful and flexible artisan who designs ways to get around onerous rules. The Fox frequently defies historic conventions for the good of humanity. There is a charming Apache legend that the Fox was responsible for bringing fire to people.

In the story, the Fox breaks the rules of the universe by somehow stealing fire from fireflies. Again, one would think that such a feat was impossible, but the trickster fox somehow makes it happen. As a punishment for his theft, the Fox was never allowed to use fire for himself. His deed ended up helping mankind but consigned the benefactor thief to the cold.

One never wants to forget the importance of slang or common meanings in dreams. It should also be remembered that “a fox” can represent an attractive woman/man. To be called “a fox” is to be called an intelligent tricky and good-looking beneficial manipulator.

The color white is the most spiritual color there is. A white fox is a spiritual master cleverly working within, but not strictly according to, the laws of the universe. I rather like my namesake.

Dream Condensation

Man Is A Biopsychospiritual Being Man Is A Biopsychospiritual Being

Dream Explanation 292:

There are many levels to dreams which include physical, psychological, and spiritual. At the physical level, it is vitality. At the psychological level, it is emotion. At the spiritual level, it is the energy of the universe.

In most dreams, all levels are true and when this happens we call it dream condensation. Dreams always use the most efficient means of communicating the most information possible which is what condensation is. Having a “big dream” is a gift that keeps on giving.

Appearance of the Sacred Heroic Masculine

tmp_19585-White Knight-1399391585 To Serve and Protect

Dream 288
A man in his forties dreamed repeatedly that he was visited by a white robed faceless spirit. This spirited man gave the dreamer all elements of a knights armor. He was given a knights helmet, breastplate, body armor, sword, etc.

This was a recurring dream where he found himself fighting evil night after night in his protective knights armor. He felt powerful and strong. He felt the dream was spiritually significant.

Interpretation
At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in the dream represents a part of the dreamer’s mind or psyche. Men are usually associated more with action parts of the mind. Women usually represent more emotional parts of the psyche.

Repetitive or recurrent dreams are almost always big dreams as Carl Jung believed that some dreams meant more than others. This was especially likely to be the case with recurrent dreams. Usually, the recurrent dream is returning to a repeated theme to continue to try to resolve a repetitive problem.

This dreamer was visited by his own spirit of the heroic masculine. The heroic masculine is the most positive aspect of masculinity. It is a major archetype ingrained in the collective subconscious of mankind.

The heroic masculine motto is “to serve and protect.” This is a very spiritual dream. White is the most spiritual color.

The fact that the heroic masculine was faceless and the evil he was fighting was vague indicated that there are many aspects of himself that he is not familiar with. The dream was recurring over the course of a month as his subconscious wanted him to get to know both the positive and shadow parts of his subconscious. The dream used knights armor to emphasize that chivalry of the heroic masculine. The dream use the armor to emphasize that it was mainly about how he protected himself so that he could protect and help others.

This dream was saying that he would be protected when he uses his heroic masculine to protect himself and others from evil. This dream was saying that the dreamer had developed the positive aspects of masculinity to the point where he was a spiritual warrior. The appearance of this strong of a form of the heroic masculine indicates that he was ready to take major positive action for himself and loved ones.

The Joy of the Divine Child

Our Hopes and Dreams
Our Hopes and Dreams

Dream 286: A Woman in her twenties had a recurrent dream that she woke up in a room with a man sleeping next to her. A noise caught her attention. She leaned over the man to see a little girl playing on the floor.

She woke the man up who picked up the little girl. The little girl had been playing with books. She looked at her book while sitting on the man’s lap. The little girl was a beautiful child that had hair so soft the dreamer could not resist touching her hair.

The dreamer asked the man who the beautiful little girl was. He had an amazing smile on his face as he said to the dreamer that the little girl was hers. As he handed the toddler to the dreamer, the child wrapped her arms around the dreamer’s neck.

The dreamer then felt that she knew exactly who the little girl was. She knew now with conviction that the little girl was hers. She felt joyously elated.

Interpretation

The dreamer was visited by her Divine Child archetype. The Divine Child is usually a little girl often with blonde hair and blue eyes (not necessarily) between the ages of 3 and 10 years old. She represented the dreamer’s hopes and dreams for the future.

At the first level of dream interpretation, each character in a dream represents part of the dreamer’s mind. Men typically go with actions; women usually go more with emotions. This is not absolutely so, but it is usually the case.

Thus, the man in the dream and the child together represent her mature actions energized by her hopes and dreams, the Divine Child archetype. The thought is that she recently decided on actions that will further her hopes and dreams. The inclusion of books suggest a thoughtful, intelligent or academic decision might be part of the scenario. The dreamer is to be congratulated.

Only the dreamer knows enough of the details of her life to be able to apply this interpretation to her interpersonal life. The man in the dream is significant in a positive way. He is the heroic masculine archetype. His appearance is often good news because it means the dreamer is ready to take positive action in life. His motto is “to serve and protect.”

It is no wonder that this dream made the dreamer feel joyous. Usually a dreamer at this stage begins to know what they want and are ready to take steps to actualize their life. The fact that this was a recurrent dream means that this dream is a “big dream.”

Recurrent dreams are big dreams that mean more than other dreams. That is because the dream is addressing repetitive issues in the dreamer’s life. Recurrent dreams make repeated attempts to get the message to the dreamer until the dreamer “gets it.”

Dream 270: Learning to Say No

date-rape-drugDream 270: Learn to Say No
A 22-year-old female college sophomore dreamed that a slick and fast talking lawyer was trying to talk her into investing in a dubious deal. She then had the scene of entering a classroom and the students were voting about whether they should each receive an injection of a drug that would hypnotize the recipient. The dream shifted to her at a busy nightclub. Her mother was in one corner of the nightclub urging her to ingest ketamine, the date rape drug. The dreamer was disgusted with her mother’s advice.
Interpretation
The slick lawyer was the embodiment of the Trickster archetype. Archetypes are patterns of thought common in culture that are passed on through human consciousness. The trickster is often a wheeler-dealer manipulator who gets what he wants. The dreamer was influenced too much by tricksters both financially and socially.
The classroom scene emphasized that there were many parts of herself (each character in the dream is a part of the dreamer’s mind) that expressly do not want to be hypnotized or controlled by other. That this occurs in a classroom emphasized that she should not be swayed by others to ignore what she has learned.
The final scene emphasized that her tendency to go along with others wants came from her mother. Mom was excessively giving to the point that she was often used by others with sometimes disaster results. Her disgust was actually a good sign that the dreamer was going to be more careful in social or dating situations.
